      Great feedback?
      I've had nothing but positive experiences with Air NZ…

      • -8

        I'm referring to their business practices.

        • +1

          I am interested to hear your view, but this may not be the best avenue to post it?

        • +9

          @deva22:

          this may not be the best avenue to post it?

          Why? OzBargainers are able to give a -ve vote to the deal if they have issues with the provider…

          Air NZ have a history of purchasing businesses and running them into the ground with thousands of people losing their jobs. I had a few friends that worked for Ansett. They were treated horribly by Air NZ. One of them waited years to get the money they were owed and all lost lots of their Super contributions.

          People lost their homes, marriages ended, some Ansett people even suicided because of what Air NZ did…

        • +5

          @jv: Not sure why you were negged - that sentiment is fairly universal amongst those that know what Air New Zealand did to Ansett.

        • +4

          @jv: JV by now you have to realize that oz-bargainers have stopped actually reading what you write and just neg the jv post .. loll .. so some fair points do get missed in the process.. :P

        • -6

          @scud70:

          oz-bargainers have stopped actually reading what you write

          you just proved you own statement wrong LOL

        • @jv: 12 others have proved me right.. i didnt neg you once i read what you wrote however, i was about to for your first post after you elaborated i didnt .. hehehe

        • -8

          @scud70:

          12 others have proved me write ..

          maybe, start of with reading…

          @jv: oops fixed .. enjoy your day hehehe

          @scud70:

          enjoy your day

          I always do…

        • +1

          @Flying Ace:
          It was negged because it's not relevant to the current deal.

          If he/she wants to discuss it should be in the forums.

          When you read it you think… this airline has poor service, is not on time etc. (Not what happened 10 years ago.)

          PS JV I did not neg you. Do not attack me.

        • +4

          @Gimli:

          Not what happened 10 years ago.

          Over 14 years ago: link

          Ansett failed on 03/11/2001. The aviation industry was in turmoil at the time, the attacks in America didn't help. Several non-government backed airlines went bust and many others needed government assistance to stay operational.

          It seems to me that the most true statement that can be made against Air NZ is that it didn't do its due diligence. Desperate to break into the Australian domestic market, it bought a company that was not commercially viable.

          JV's comments regarding asset stripping were never substantiated (more on this in the wiki I've link to above).

          JV, I would consider it an honor if you would attack me. Let me say though, you have taken many to task for bargains that were not bargains. You like the truth, but only when it suites your ideology. You bear a personal grudge against Air NZ, perhaps? Full disclosure, please.

        • @jv: I've got friends who got shafted too, but it sounds like it was pretty much run into the ground by Mr Murdoch & Abeles before it got sold.

      • They still give you lollies?

      Air NZ is one of the best airlines in the world?

        Air NZ is one of the best airlines in the world?

        No, they have no ethics.

        • +4

          Ansett was doomed, and would have suffered a similar fate had Singapore airlines bid been successful…overpaid staff, aging fleet and domestic route rights opened up to foreign airlines shortly after acquisition.
          Would the company have been dissolved in the same way? Who knows….but you can also bet the people involved are no longer associated with Air NZ at all.

        • -1

          @coolhand:

          Ansett was doomed

          Rubbish. All airlines were having difficulties during that period.

          What Air NZ did was to sabotage Ansett, flog off their assets and try and avoid paying people the hard earned money they were owed…

        • Are you aware they were on the verge of a shutdown themselves? Helen Clark came to rescue them with a $300 million bailout

        • -1

          @nzthunderboy:

          Are you aware they were on the verge of a shutdown themselves?

          Are you aware Air NZ moved all their assets to another of their companies before bankrupting them, to avoid paying the workers their money ???

        • +3

          @jv: business? Protecting self interest first? Wouldn't they look after their employees first before anyone's. I agree it was tough and rough.. But such is life

        • @nzthunderboy:

          Wouldn't they look after their employees first before anyone's.

          They were Air NZ employees… Air NZ had purchased the company.

        • +3

          @jv: what air NZ did was prevent themselves from going bankrupt and destroying many more jobs by shutting down an underperforming asset. Yes other airlines were struggling during the period but Ansett's conditions and benefits for employees were far more generous than competitors, the company literally didn't have the money to pay for fuel would you rather they had have tried to make people work longer for free

        • @coolhand:

          what air NZ did was prevent themselves from going bankrupt

          What they did was move assets that belonged to Ansett, thus bankrupting them, and avoiding having to pay employees the money they were owed…

          Air NZ did not go bankrupt because their government bailed them out, but they did not return to Ansett the assets they stole.

        • +1

          @jv: How is this possible? For Air New Zealand to steal asset from a business they purchase? Did they not own it when they purchase the business?

        • @able:

          How is this possible?

          Ask them…

          In Australia, if you moved assets when knowing you're going to declare bankruptcy, you'd most likely end up in jail…

      • +2

        Where did I mention Qantas ???

        Does your link justify what Air NZ did to thousands of Australian families ?

    • I've had nothing but greatness from air nz

  • +1

    This would be good if they'd allowed for an open-jaw return.

    • -7

      if they'd allowed for an open-jaw return.

      Are you referring to how their hostesses look?

    • Yeah that kind of ruins it.

  • Damn, I'd been waiting weeks for a Promo Code, it comes out 2 days after I book my flights. Oh well, just checked and it didn't take a full $150 off my airfares, so there's some consolation LOL

    • Spoke to Air NZ and the sales rep said "Promo code must not be used in conjunction with any other already discounted airfare". Apparently the dates selected are already special deals highlighted in pink but these deals go right through to the end of year meaning the promo is false advertising

  • Thanks just in time, been looking at flights. Always had fantastic service on Air NZ over the years and this discount makes it even better.

    Bugger just saw the words return and $150…. nearly another random OB holiday for no real reason!! Never really though about spending much time in the Philippines until OB gave me countless Cebu offers I just could not refuse.

  • +2

    Also seems to take $75 off for flights operated by Virgin.

  • +2

    Thanks OP, I've been meaning to get over there.

    On a side note, I exceeded my neg limit for the day. Thanks JV :)

    • -3

      I exceeded my neg limit for the day.

      It's not possible to exceed the limit…

      I still have a few, do you want one ???

      • "24-hours limit for voting negative on comments is currently capped at 5"

        • +2

          Glad you didn't waste them…

      • Hey JV,

        Don't take the negs too personally. Its ozbargain for you.

  • only $10 difference if i book with code. (385 vs 375)
    mel-auk
    25/1-30/1

    • Mine was about 90 bucks difference with the code - SYD-CHR in November.

    Tried Melbourne <> Wellington. Came up to $360 for seat only in August. Jetstar is currently doing it for $200. no deal!

    • Yup, I got under $200 return with Jetstar for Melbourne Cup weekend.

  • How do you even know whether there is $150 off or not?

    I tried a PER-WLG return for a few dates and the prices seemed to vary wildly, as usual, and overall to be about the same as usual.

    Given that prices vary by hundreds of dollars from hour-to-hour and from date-to-date and from flight-to-flight, it seems impossible to tell anything except whether you're willing to pay that much to fly at that time on that date.
