[PC] Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide - Free Weekend on Steam

90

Download and play it for the weekend to see if you like it enough to buy it. Good opportunity to try before you buy if you ask me.
Those of you who are already certain they want to buy it, it is currently 40% on Steam which makes it $17.99 US instead of $29.99US. However, I am not sure and did not check if this is the cheapest price for this game so please check that BEFORE you buy.

Enjoy the free weekend.

Note: Yes, this is a deal. Many of them have been posted before (e.g. Origin game time etc.) so save your energy for negging for someone else. Also keep in mind the negging guidelines if you do not want to be banned permanently as you will be reported for false negging.

The actual deal should put in the title, that is the 40% off for $17.99USD.

You've marked this as a freebie which it is not - Steam free weekends are 'a try before you buy'.

It states under the tag "Freebie":

Item or service is completely FREE to obtain, with zero shipping cost and no strings attached

That is the case here, isn't it. The tag explanation does not state as a requirement that it can be kept forever and ever.

If you still want it removed I am happy to do so as I believe people can read and tags unnecessary.

There are strings attached with Steam Free Weekends, as there is a difference between a 'freebie' and a 'trial'.

I think it's more than reasonable to make a distinction between something I get to keep/own, and something I only get to use for 2 days.

What are the strings? There are no strings attached to getting the game during the free weekend, are there?

I could say even with a giveaway game there are strings attached and it is not free to obtain as it chews my download quota and electricity.

Would it make you happy if I removed it? As then I am happy to do so.

P.S.: I am not putting the 40% off as a deal as I have not checked prices and if it's not the cheapest, some people will unleash a ….storm. No, thank you.

          @Lysander:

With software there is a clear distinction between getting a free licence to use that product forever, against having 2 days to use the software. One is free, the other is a trial.

With your example of free licence give away not being free as you have to download it, then you could extrapolate that to everything - you could say a free burger isn't free as your body has to use energy to get it, or you could say that any of the PinchMe deals where you get free products sent to your mailbox isn't free as you have to go to your mailbox to get it. It's not exactly a reasonable approach to have.

        • @c0balt:

You are right - it is not. That is why I do not subscribe to it. To me it felt that this was the approach your "string" bit relied on.

In my opinion, there is no distinction. If I posted a deal for free weekend hire of a Lamborghini I doubt you would say it is not a freebie if normally to hire such a car for a weekend would cost you $400 - even though after the weekend you have to give it back.

Plus, the license you get with free games, in fact any game, is not irrevocable at all so really you are at the mercy of the license holder/copyright holder not to exercise the right of revocation.
And with free games, you would have no recourse for compensation in such a case as you have no loss - no purchase price was paid.
Really, there is no such thing as a free game one can keep forever without having to rely on the license holder's goodwill. The very fact of the use of a license implies the revocable character.

        • @Lysander: it's a 2 day demo. You don't get to keep it unless you pay.
          Pretty easy to understand ;)

          @Vlaka:

No one disputes that. The question is whether it belongs in the deal section due to it being a bargain and it does.
          See the Lamborghini example above.

Plus, all the games you think you get to keep: the licence holder can get them back even though you paid. Read your licence and the copyright laws. ;-)

  • FYI the game is 25 whopping GB. I've been downloading for a day now and I'm only 20GB done. Heard it has problems with lower playerbase which is why this free weekend is a perfect opportunity to see whether it's true.

    • I've always played it with friends and had a lot of fun. Difficulty finding players several months after release is a problem many games have especially if you are looking for AU/NZ players that you will have a decent connection with.

    • AUS community was pretty toxic and pretty much killed itself.
he overall player base died soon after launch when the developer kept piss farting around and not fixing things that needed fixing that and just too much RNG.

Note: Yes, this is a deal.

It sounds like you're posting this for the sake of having a go at people. There's also plenty of crap that gets through onto Ozbargain that shouldn't be here that moderators turn a blind eye to. That doesn't mean I'm going to go around posting similar deals just because of that.

Not really - just sick of people who don't read guidelines, especially the negging guidelines, and then just stir up trouble. Such behaviour will keep people and deals away from here and hence I want to discourage that from the start.

A deal as in belonging to the category. Whether you believe it is a deal in the sense of a bargain is up to you.

Yes, I know what you mean: Eneloop deals, Udemy deals, Ebay, Click Frenzy, used to be DS and the lot. Oh, hang on, if we remove them, then the deal number will plummet by at least 50%.

      Have a nice day.

Of course one gets negged for saying this out loud. And the neggers are proving me right, too. Thanks guys - I knew you could be relied on.

Thanks for posting OP. Have wanted to try this for a while, and glad I get to take up on this DEAL :)

  • One could argue that a free weekend of this game provides more value than the free bd indie game with a few cents worth of trading cards
