  Get yourself 2 of these: $10 Optus Prepaid starter kits
  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/249308

  Then 1 of these: Amaysim 7GB pack for $19.95.
  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/249439

  Activate one of the Optus sim pack, after 28 days, port to the Amaysim, and then after another 28 days, port back to Optus using the other pack.

  Voila, 3 months phone access for $40. Not quite 3 months since they are only 28 days expiry, but close enough I guess.

  You can do variations of that by finding cheaper prepaid starter kits.

    Didn't read your post properly. If you don't need much data, then maybe you can just get a Telstra prepaid sim and then use their long expiry plan.

      When you activate the sim, it lets you choose whether you want to get a new number or port in your existing number from another network.

  I just bought 2 (limit 1 per customer) $30 Telstra Tablet Starter data packs (Dec '17 exp) from Harvey Norman @ $10 each…just activated one and has 3 GB data for 30 days.
