  • How does this compare to the Seagate BackupPlus 1TB?

    • +2

I personally prefer Toshiba. I've had 2 Seagate HDs from the past. One stopped working and the other one experiences connectivity issues. My Toshiba one on the other hand I've had for over 5 years although USB 2, its been reliable. Just my 2 cents.

    • It's generally a much of a muchness at this sorta price range, more a brand loyalty thing, Seagate has had some bad times recently, more notably with their 2TB drives I believe. Any of them could die on your tomorrow, just as any of them could last years. Personally I'd just go the cheapest. It's a bit different when you are looking for some higher end, higher capacity drives, where the drives actually are genuinely different, and serve different purposes.

2Tb is $117, which is a bit cheaper per Tb.

I'm too steering clear of Seagate after having a couple die recently.

    • Thanks Added to post.

    • +1

agreed, for an extra $12 + delivery I'd buy the Western Digital over the seagate

  • How much normally?

    • +1

      $77

  • Can we purchase instore for this price?

    • Yes

  • I have the 2TB version. good drive

  • 1TB looks like it's sold out

    • If you using mobile site, it's not adding to cart. But work fine on desktop site.

      • Huh, it's saying unavailable online for me

        • Im not sure what's wrong your side.

  • Can we uSe this for ps4 memory?

    • No

    • you can for xbox one ;)

Its funny, everyone says they don't want Seagate, but these ones have Seagate M8 or M9. In fact most 2.5" portable drive these days use them. Expect WD, which use their own drives and don't seem to supply others.

    • Does Toshiba not use its own drives inside its portable harddrives?

I'm gonna humbly suggest you're wrong, as this review of a Toshiba Canvio 2tb contains a Toshiba drive inside it.

    • All Data On Failure rates on the 2014 and 2015 years say Toshiba has a lower fail rate than WD and Seagate.

      https://www.backblaze.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/20…

WD has the highest fail rate and I believe the statistics because I own 4 WDs and ALL 4 have failed Within 18 months. 2 out of the 4 of the WDs I owned failed within 6 months.

  • +1

It accommodates large digital files because of its spacious storage capacity.

Hard to argue with this as a feature.

    • "The internal shock sensor and ramp loading technology protects your drive from unwanted data loss."
As opposed to wanted data loss…

      • +2

There is such thing as wanted data loss.. ie when you delete files

  • Is $68 for a 1tb hard drive a good price ?

    • Normal price for this is 77 bucks apparently

    • I couldn't find one cheaper

  • Does anyone know if you can take these out of their enclosure and use in laptops?

    • -2

Any external you can use out of encclosure :p

    • No, it doesn't have the normal sata connections rather a usb type 3

  • I bought 3TB version for $159 delivered yesterday from Shopping Express

  • And also is this instore aswell ?

  • +1

    Thanks ordered a 1tb for my xb1

  • Toshiba Canvio 2TB or Seagate Expansion 2TB?
    They're roughly the same price.

  • Would these be right for use with a Wii U?

    • +1

I am thinking about the same thing so I did some research. Looks like it will be fine, but you need a Y cable (two usb head into whatever this hard drive uses)to power it since Wii U does not support USB 3. Or alternatively you can get a desktop harddrive, which is powered by external source

  • The Seagate Expansion 2tb is also available for $2 more. It has a a sata drive inside that is suitable for a ps4.

    • I saw that as well but from a previous thread ( I can;t find it ATM) I was under the impression that these were too thick for the PS4?

      • +1

I put one in my PS4 last night. I can only relate from my experience though.

        • Thanks mate. Are you able to check what the manufacturing date was on the box by chance? If I do get one and it wont fit it won't be the end of the world of course, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

And to confirm this is the one you got?

          Cheers!

        • Yeah that's the drive I got. The manufacture date was 9/2015.

        • @Waynewayne:

Thanks mate, I'll go check them out tomorrow, I'll just have to make sure I get a 2015 made unit by the looks!

    +1 Recommend this brand. I have owned 4 x 3.5 inch WD drives and 2 x 3.5 inch seagate and 2 x 2.5 inch seagate.

I Switched to 2.5 inch Toshiba 2TB Canvio 12 months ago. I own 4. 2 of them Purchased from Officeworks.

I have used 2 of these Toshibas for Heavy daily Use. Roughly 8 hours a day of daily use for laptop and haven't had any problems. Smooth sailing. I Accidentally dropped one of the drives on Tiled non-carpetted floor and it survived the drop test. I now prefer Toshiba's.

  • I always imagined that 3.5" harddirves would be more stable and long lasting than the 2.5" hardrives..i assume this isnt the case?

  • Does anyone know if this is a temporary special or a permanent new price?

  • I have it plugged in to a USB port on my desktop and only getting 24Mb/second, anyone have any idea why it would be so slow?

  • its transferring a movie from my laptop to the hard drive at around 90MB/s is that good or slow ?

  • and it also looks different than the add it doesnt have a matte finish is it still the same ?

  • These are slightly cheaper from futu online with the 20% ebay code.

    • Really? It's $99 on Futu, 20% off = $79.20

      • Oh yeah, $111.20 for the 2GB.
        Worth the $5.80 savings.
Not sure if I need the 2GB personally.
