Hair Transplant Surgery (Melbourne Options)

I'm going to get a hair transplant. Luckily, I am not that far gone, but am destined to be bald given my genes.

I am aware it's cheaper in Thailand, Turkey and Hungary, although I am wanting to assess my local (Melbourne) options.

I had been seeing Dr Russell Knudsen over the last 8 years who had prescribed me Propecia, although I had quite bad side effects (just like the only other 4 people I know taking it… I am convinced they are understated) so I stopped it. Dr Knudsen is fantastic but it's a 4 month wait to see him!

I saw his colleague Dr Spano who said I need 2,000 grafts (strip method) = $12,680 AUD.

I'd like to get a second opinion, as I'm sure Dr Knudsen previously said I'd only need 1,000 - 1,500 (18 months prior, and I understand I have lost more hair, but still…). Having said that, I suppose the more done in a single session the better as it would delay (or hopefully eliminate the need for) my next one.

Can anyone recommend any other Hair transplant doctors in Melbourne? The only other one I know are NHI.

  • hello, where do they pluck the hairs from?

    • Out of the wax they use for brazilians.

      • yeah, i thnk so too because it cant be from your head but elsewhere. In that case wouldn't it be all curly when stuck back on and look strange??? under arm hair looks different. shayne warnes hair looks normal though. better get his secreets

        • They take hairs from the back of your head (the ones that are genetically different and will never fall out).

      • what if you don't want curly hair?

        • They give you a straightening iron as a free gift.

Not many people are going to be honest about hair transplants.

They look terrible, especially as you said you're destined to be bald, it looks very unnatural.

You're better off just shaving it off, rather than a hair transplant or a comb over, you're not fooling anyone.

These places prey on people's insecurities, but being bald isn't the end of the world.

Geeez! That averages just over $6 per strand of hair!

1 graft = 3 to 4 strands of hair. But yes, still $$$.

      • In Sydney you can now get 1500 grafts for $4,000
