According to their Coverage page Woolies "uses parts of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile networks".

Can buy 2 @ $1 each plus $2 postage, Can I also get this in store for $1? I just checked the latest catalogue I picked up today and no mention of it but they have $10 Optus $30 starter packs this coming week and Woolworths $45 mobile recharge for $31.50.

  • Wow. Thats a massive discount

  • +1

Sweet. Cheapest mobile data by miles!

  • The delivery fee for Woolworths Mobile pre-paid SIM Packs is $2, delivered by Australia Post.

    • What is the size of SIM Card ? Is it Nano or micro ?

      • +7

        its TRIO

More info here about bonus 6gb (well bonus 3gb)

Only first month meh. Good for simcard sluts who activate new sims every month I guess

      • +13

Mobile broadband / pocket WiFi devices do not mind being called 'simcard sluts'.

        • Also good for duo sim phones.

      • +4

        simcard sluts

        I resemble that remark.

If this price is @woollies store aswell then save $2 delivery

  • +1

Do the sim packs have expiry date?

    • +1

I suspect they will but the sweet spot would be to activate before 30 June for the data.

      • +2

Sounds weird to me - so thed have to scan the sale date of each SIM, and set activation per SIM on their system?

        • That's supposely easier than your thought. Just think about how they sell all those giftcards without worrying shoplifting.

      • +3

This is the only thing I could find in their terms and conditions on their website:
        https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/content/dam/Woolworths/Mobi…
        2.3 Sim Card
        (a) You will receive a Sim Card when You purchase a Sim Pack.
        (b) You must Activate Your Sim Card before the expiry date printed on the Sim Pack.

There were no additional terms mentioned when ordering. It would only be true if these sim packs are about to expire in 3 months, which I guess is possible and possibly the reason for the price.

        • Expiry on mine was Dec 2017 and there's no mention of the 3month activation term on the pack.

      • The sim is marked with an expiry date… so the csr is saying that it is not valid?

  • I assume you can port your current mobile number in the activation process??

    • +6

I've yet to see an Australian provider disallow inward ports.

      • last week optus lost my mobile number. my very first number, which i have had 15+ years.
i had a read of the regulations regarding number porting. i never would have imagined for what we might deem such a banal process so complicated.

while i don't recall any requirement that a carrier needs to support number porting, i do recall that if you intend to enable your number to port over to other carriers, you are also required to have the ability to port the numbers coming inwards from other carriers,

        • You lost the number under what circumstances?

I thought your current provider will only release the number when the new provider is ready to port over.

        • +4

@pauper: Yes, the only reason I can think of for losing a number is the prepaid lapsed and then after going into a holding g Bay for 6 months and the customer didn't follow up it was reallocated. AFAIK that's the only way to lose one

        • @firstworldproblems How did Optus lose the phone number?

        • @pauper best to think of it like a relay race with the passing of a baton. to port smoothly, you need to release your possession of the number as the other carrier grabs holds of it.

          @realfancyman:

refer to above description. now, assume that your contract is ending and having explained your intentions about wanting to port to a prepaid plan the previous phone consultation, you have formed the reasonable opinion that your carrier had been advised. so when you eventually call them to terminate and they try to sell you a shiny new phone and tell them 'no, i've got everything sorted' you think they will release for porting before terminating contract. porting must always occur before cancellation of the previous contract.

cliff's notes: mobile phone contracts that don't get ported before they terminate are like a baton that is released, but without nobody to grab them. they are doomed for eternity in some purgatory void.

          working on it having fixed.

        • +1

@firstworldproblems: "so when you eventually call them to terminate"

          Noooo.

I've ported numbers many, many times without flaw.

I've NEVER told my carrier that i'm leaving. Dont do that! Never terminate your contract!!

There is no such thing as 'release for porting' or passing the baton.

You tell your new carrier your old number, give them the account number/DOB and they'll go break into the old carriers house and steal the baton.

That way neither of them are running and have the potential to drop the baton.

        • @cheesecactus:

i will be honest: feigning outrage at them (when i know it's also partially my fault) … it's as though a kicked a rock and discovered it to be a golden nugget. the fact that people from my past, like 10 years ago, now have no way of reaching me? do you have any idea how BAD this is, how HUGE a problem this is? neither do i cause it's so rare it never happens. but i am happy to pretend if it tacks on an additional one or more zeros to my damages.

        • +2

What are you on about? Losing a number is not related to porting. You probably lost your number because you didn't keep the account active (postpaid or prepaid), like Jackson says, so Optus took it back.

As cheesecactus says, you shouldn't notify your current provider you are porting. You just tell your new provider to do it and it will be done.

        • +4

          @firstworldproblems:

when i know it's also partially my fault

Partially? You terminated your contract before porting. That's entirely your fault.

        • @PBG:

please don't start this right now. all i will say is that i am 3 from 3 in my consumer complaints so far. i will win this one. and i will win my one against officeworks over how mental they were over the $15 Big W huawei modem deal.

        • @greenpossum:

Im currently on a really old plan by Optus which changed to TPG and now it's changed to Vodafone. The plan is $1 per month PAYG.

If I wanted to port my number out to say, Telstra or Optus, I can just port without letting Voda know? Will it automatically stop billing the $1 per month?

        • +1

@Obey: You just get your new provider to port you and that automatically cancels your old service. Use up any prepaid credit because you will lose that. Also if you are paying off a phone on contract you will have to pay that out.

        • @greenpossum:
Thanks for your reply. Sim is post paid, but only $1 per month and any other costs if I make calls/ text. Sim only, so I should be sweet to port.

        • @firstworldproblems:

when i know it's also partially my fault

Did you call them and say 'terminate my contract so i can port out'? If so, then it's kinda your fault. If you told them 'terminate my contract' what did you expect them to do. They're just doing what you tell them.

If you said 'Cancel my contract in 5 days so i have some time to port out' And they cancelled it immediately, well then they're at fault.

I copied this right off Optus' website (yes i know you were porting from optus, but same thing applies):

Mobile Phone: Transfer your current Postpaid mobile phone number from another service provider over to Optus. Please don’t cancel your existing service number with your current provider until the transfer is complete.

          (profanity) ME DEAD

i just lost a nice reply using an analogy about a woman seeking a prescription for roaccutane from her GP.
it might seem tangential, but it would have made sense regarding the liability of multiple actors in the scenario, and made my POV regarding liability regarding my number considerably clearer.

i got to go, the next time i am bored and loaded on benzodiazepines, i will revisit this.

        • +1

@firstworldproblems: you are rambling and not making any sense

        • @snappy1234:

What, benzos? The way he worded it "next time i am bored and loaded on benzodiazepines" it just sounds like hes a bit of a druggo.

        • @snappy1234:

potentially also a med-school dropout, the circumstances of which are an entirely different matter.

regarding my phone number: there is light at the end of the tunnel. apparently, if done promptly, one can actually resurrect lost phone numbers. i am told that this true in my case. when advised that doing so would require shelling out up $25 for a post-paid sim card, i am quite proud of this little gem from the transcript:

Optus Bro: Rest assured that this number can still be reactivated under your name.
          Me: good.
Me: i also feel confident that optus will be paying for costs incurred.

i think they were taken aback by my claim, but upon hearing my reasoning, they have agreed to pay for the above costs. as i have stated previously i feel my liability in the matter was 20%. this guy was particularly feisty, but a good sport about it at the end.

you can't do carrier billing for google play like telstra sims right?

  • awesome, just got 2 for $4 shipped. Hope they honour this as it appears that there'll be quite a bit of traffic from ozbargain today.

    • Did you have a promo code by any chance?

      • Don't need one, just follow normal procedures and it should end up being 2 for $4.

        • +1

Was hoping for further discount that's all.

Do you even get mobile reception under that rock?

      • He was referring to Aldi having 365 day expiry.

    • Yupe, should wait for a 10% discount code to take it down to 27 days expiry, then it won't be that expensive.

      • +1

At the time of my post, it says $30 for 30 days!

Now I see $1 and is absolutely a super bargain. I ordered 2.

        • Fair enough. Good price. I ordered 2 myself.

  • At last, Woolies Mobile got desperate enough to offer a big discount. Now I have a reason to check my mailbox, hardly get any physical mail now.

  • Very sweet deal. Does anyone know whether these SIM packs have expiry dates?

  • +5

Ordered one. Not sure what is this deal about, but yeah i have had couple of VB so everything if good.

    • Yeah the grammar is a little bit not good, but hey the grammar police are probably somewhat tipsy too tonight.

      • Not tipsy but definitely more tolerant of grammar errors in the earlier hours.

  • I live in Sydney CBD, does anyone know the delivery time on these? My amaysim plan finishes on the 24th.

    • +5

Guaranteed it will be the 26th just to be really annoying.

      • Can't you buy these in store?

  • Is there any limit on how late you can activate them ? It would be nice to stack a few (hudered) and use for data

  • Any premium credit included? The old Optus Woolworths mobile plan included $29 premium credit (for play store/pay-by-sms/etc) on a $29 recharge.

Edit; no mention of it in critical information summary. Still hopeful though, there was no official mention of it on the older Optus plan either.

    • Any premium credit included? The old Optus Woolworths mobile plan included $29 premium credit (for play store/pay-by-sms/etc) on a $29 recharge.

No as this is on the the Telstra network now not Optus.

Using Telstra sims directly is the only way to get "play store" credit.(and this is a woolies sim using most of the T network)

    • +1

Couldn't do as much with that premium credit. Most I ever used it for was roaming while overseas. Handful of texts later it was gone.

  • I cannot find a start and finish date for this deal - please let me know if you do.

It started at 12:50am when you posted this deal and will end at 12:50pm today by which time it will be ozbargained.

  • After buying the sim did any one receive any email confirmation of the order?

    • I did.

      Yep (almost instantly)

      • I did not get any email confirmation as of yet. But I did get a order number page with confirmation. Worried if my order got through or not.
and they charged me only 2$ even though I ordered 2x Sim.

OK i just double checked my email from WM and got charged correctly 2x sim and delivery $2 Total $4

Yep i would get onto woolies chat and check for sure (as your amounts are not correct.)

it's prudent to note that my street number was present, but apartment number was not. i was a little concerned that i had been a total spaz in the excitement and had neglected to enter my address incorrectly.

but woolies online supporty mcchat confirmed all was good, just an error in parsing the address when the e-mail was sent. advised me that it was shipping out tomorrow.

        • They are no longer sending email confirmations as there was an error with addresses. Actual postal addresses are correct, just they just stopped them because people are freaking out.
