Telstra $30 Starter Kit Idea

Hi,
Recently I discovered an app Rebatr to transfer telstra credit to paypal. I have figured, that if I pay for a telstra$30 starter kit for $10, then use rebatr, that I would make a $6.50 profit. The easiest way to do this is to activate the kit through their live chat, wait 24 hours and then make the purchase. Plus, you get 30 days worth of mobile bonuses (freedom plus data and calls), which mean that instead of paying for a $30 recharge, you essentially earn yourself $6.50 every cycle.

The one problem is that it can be inconvenient to keep contacting telstra to activate it. Creditme2u also sounds like a good option, but the 25c fee sort of kills the deal.

Does anyone do a similar thing or have a suggestion for a better way?

Thanks

    • If the process wasn't as hard it would be incredibly useful. I thought ozbargain was about saving money.

Activate the sim 24 hours before you buy it? Hey, that sounds feasible.

    • First, build a time machine…

      • When I refer to the purchase, I'm talking about transferring the credit

Rebatr is a well known channel which is exploited by some Telstra Prepaid customers to get a financial rebate with unused credit. Nothing particularly new I must say…

  • I see this getting banned real soon as the app may contravene Google terms & conditions (money laundering related at the very least). I am no expert on this though just my opinion. If the app is banned, you would unlikely receive money from the author.

Even if it's not, I suspect Telstra would stop offering this feature if their customers can just "cash out" the credit, then no more google play purchases? :-(

So would probably work short term, I don't see how this could be maintained long term.

Yeah I guess, but in my opinion I don't see an issue. It still means telstra gets a purchase from you, google gets some money out of any transaction and the person doing the transaction gets money back

It's a lose-lose-lose-lose situation really, it's a breach of Google T&Cs for both the buyer and the seller.
        * Buyer: Could get nothing in return for the credit
        * Seller: Could have sent PayPal but then for the google payment not to come through.
        * Google: Can get in trouble for allowing its apps to violate its T&C, in terms of anti money laundering compliance (Google Payments Terms of Service Seller: 2.2; Buyer: B.3.6)
        * Telstra: Would make a loss if enough people do this, and customers lose ability to use credits to make purchases.

A bit like passing around a hot potato seeing where it will blows up… much better to get something you need legitimately, there are many ways to spend the credit:

A bunch of more high profile apps got banned and the authors refused to pay out the users seeing as google confiscated the funds. Looks like Rebatr escaped through the cracks for now

How many make a bunch? I can only think of nicois' CM2U abuse. Do you know of another?

        • someone was stealing Google Play gift cards then turning around and turning them into cash via Cashify.

Completely unrelated to Telstra credit. And Google rightly pulled the app because of stolen Google play cards (costs Google real money).

Telstra credit makes Google money. Can anyone point to a specific term that is being breached by rebatr and similar apps?

        • Seeing as nicois app went down at the same time, i doubt the hypothetical comment about stolen google play cards was the actual reason. But it's not like anyone can prove anything.

I'll post the same link, as per the last thread where you posed the same question

Been discussed so many times already. Search "rebatr", "t-cashback" or "Telstra recharge credit" on ozbargain.

Almost all the comments providing valid information are negged by a bunch of people trying to keep it secret.

Then there are a bunch of comments claiming the apps have been removed, violate terms, refunds go missing etc which if you can read between the lines come from the same people who are either a) trying to keep it secret or b) very misinformed.

Fact is, yes it's totally viable. Refunds come through fast. Verified by numerous ozbargainers, including myself.

Now watch how many negs this comment gets from those trying to keep it a secret…

  • I don't get it, where does the money come from?

ozbargain are already well aware of this, you drawing attention to it is just going to get it banned. maybe you just should have done a search on ozbargain for rebatr and read what has already been discussed

    • Wow, I just changed providers the other day too. It might still work but probably not worth the risk.

      • Tried to cash in T credit yesterday & purchase was not valid. (Had changed plans so could use Credit on Play.) Report on Whirlpool also
