  • Whats the shipping like too Sydney?

    • +2

      $19.95 to Sydney Postcode 2000.
IMHO as long as this thing doesn't break in 3 months time, it's a steal.
Specs aren't super spectacular, but more than enough for net/office/home server use.
Chuck in a decent graphic card and you can play most games at normal/low settings.

Forget about gaming on this machine. It's simply not possible. I tried to put a low end graphics card and tv tuner in a similar machine and all i got were beeps (i could install one at a time but not both). The beep code indicated a power supply issue. The power supply is not designed for any more than a basic expansion card and that's it. Additionally it's a small form factor meaning it does not have a standard size power supply. Use the machine as is. Don't expect it to be expandable.

        • Would it be possible to install a blade type graphic card/low profile/half height card on these? So it can some 3D games? Dont think you will go high resolution on that 17inch Monitor. Any advice on expandable graphic card? How about Winfast 512MB 8400GS Lowprofile PCIE, around $60. worth the investment?

@hunterx: You can get a more recent DX 11 card for cheaper. See Gigabyte 5450 = $39. It's low profile too, great for HTPC use.

@hunterx: I've had a 8400GS in mine after the 8300GS destroyed itself. SFF cards are generally lower end cards and havent had a problem in 3 yrs. Problem is the latest games require the newer shader capabilities so some games couldnt run. Red Alert, DOTA and HON etc worked fine.

        • Hmmm… Interesting.
          Thanks for the heads up.
It'll still be useful students or non power users, but not so much a gaming rig then.

I wish this deal was posted sooner before I bought a new nettop, though. Could use one of these boxes as a cheap alternative (considering that LCD monitor is included).

Hmmm, Pentium D, Hot and Noisy..

For $199 what do you want?! Really??! What do you expect for this price? You build me something better, cooler and quieter for this price and I'll take two. Nothing is ever good enough for everyone on this site.

  • low profile graphics card only

    • i should have mentioned, i have one of these as a media center but upgraded with an ati 4350 (low profile and HDMI) and a second HDD. I absolutely love it. this is the cheapest i've seen it cos i paid more for mine without monitor… btw it's pretty quiet.

      • I noticed that as well … even after 3 years its a pretty darn quiet unit.

  • Old GX280s/GX520s have gone for a lot more in price and a lot less in specs.

This is still an adequate computer which could run W7 with Aero. Semi-decent expandability too.

    Great deal.

  • Great value, especially with XP Pro and monitor included. A bit noisy model though.

  • I've bought refurb/ex-lease HPs for family and friends who just use the net and they last for years and are dirt cheap, well recommended.

    Pentium D 820 2.8GHz 95W TDP is slower than a Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6GHz 65W

    • The E series ones are Core 2 Duo, more efficient than Pentium D.

    Just let you know guys
This PC is free delivery to Melbourne metropolitan area
    Coupon code: “BUDGET-IN-MIND”

    • Even better than pick up myself, petrol isnt cheap these days.
Overall great deal, consider cost of Win XP Pro is about same as the pc.

  • XP Pro OEM isn't transferrable off that pc though

still, these would suit an office banger

  • 17" 4:3 LCD Monitor

    Seems to suggest 1024 x 768, I thought 17" LCDs are 5:4, i.e. 1280 x 1024.

Not that's I'm interested in getting it, just pointing that out.

can get the same thing on ebay for < $80

        Walk the talk.

    • Im callin shenanigans on that claim

  • Would this have built in wifi…?? and also if anyone knows is the keyboard and mouse included as well..?

    • [is the keyboard and mouse included as well..?]

Cost extra - $5 for used / $19 for new USB

wifi - $29 for a USB wireless adapter

  • $199 for a complete computer (minus K+M) is a good deal, especially for someone only wanting to use it for basic tasks.

  • Just bought one…. nice deal… not sure if it will come with the OEM Disc… anyone..??

    • In my experience you don't get the disc, it will be preloaded, but you will get the official sticker on the side of the machine. You may have to activate Windows when you get your computer but I've never had an issue

For those who are looking for a internet computer, $15 local pickup at sydney
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270564…

    • Great price, but not so great location for me, more like Penrith and Blue Mountains than Sydney. Too far and takes too much time to drive. Good for somebody out west though.

  • If you live in Adelaide you can get these every week from Evans & Clarke auctions. Usually a complete DC7600 system, inc. 17" monitor for ~$125. http://www.evansclarke.com.au/catalog.asp?catid=11 (scroll towards the bottom of the page)

  • wow i remember these comps from highschool like 5yrs ago >_> LOL…i remember it was a good computer for studying but anything else beside from that was bad…this computer is definitely the type for people that use their comp like 1hr/week or simple comp for kids to prevent them playing too much games.

    • Probably good for preventing kids from watching too much youtube. They're fine if you just want to surf old-fashioned text and image pages.

Half the people here have no reasonable knowledge/experience with older pcs. My pentium 4 3ghz pc that is even older than this advertised machine can run basically every game besides those that are dual core specific.(all that's required is an ati card with no power connector). I'm not saying that this deal is that great but just providing a valid perspective.

    • I slapped an old video card in an even older HP than this, and it ran WoW quite comfortably, for instance.

  • I am using a DC7100 P4 3GHz very successfully as a Media Centre PC running full HD 1080p on my flat screen. With 1GB of memory, just add a PCI-E HDMI low profile video card and a PCI twin TV tuner card and away you go. If you want it stand-alone, add a 1TB hard drive too.

    • So seems spend 200 + 40 dollar low profile card will get myself a HDPC? Now should look for a cheap 1TB, $88 for WD 1TB good deal from their site?

  • Okay I have a couple of questions:

    1. Are these units checked for bulging / leaking capacitors before they're sent off? I've had major issues in the past with Dell GX270/280's…. are the HP's also prone to capacitor issues?

    2. What resolution is the screen exactly?

    3. Free shipping to Melbourne CBD area? Is Melbourne Aiport (Tullamarine) too far from the CBD? Or free shipping there too? :)

    • Free shipping was stated for Melbourne Metro area (not just CBD) so Tulla would be included.
