considering the hardware inside the machine …. the lack of full hd 1080p is a valid comment…. not sure why we aren't seeing bargain FHD laptops in this size … also and kogan and aldi had FHD but they skimped on the processor.

How come all these expensive laptops in 2016 don't have a blu-ray burner installed?
not many use optical drives anymore. All digital videos/music.
$719 is more mid-tier tbh… And mainly it's because most consumers would prefer ~$30 cheaper and no Blu-ray.
also no dvd allows them to make a smaller / thinner laptop….ultrabooks set the trend. The cost of blue ray use once media vs usb memory stick use many times is making the optical drive more a bulky design constraint them a feature. You can always use a usb attached dvd drive for those rare occasions.
