Seagate Personal Cloud Storage 4TB; Single Bay; $190.40 @ The Good Guys eBay (C &C)

First ever Deal Posted (been a huge beneficiary of this site). This is current version of Seagate single disk home media storage device (it's model STCR4000301 but you won't see that listed on eBay site). I believe it replaced Seagate Central Personal cloud version which was listed here few months ago at around $135. I think this is a good price for current model and competitor to Western Digital Cloud 4TB at $258 on same site

Store description:

Damn… i got this last week for 227 at officeworks after getting jbs price beat. Gonna get TRS back on top of that. so its gonna be around 205$. This price is awesome considering Amazon is selling this for 179.99 USD.

  • the word cloud always involves software ….how good is the software it comes with ? Does it have usb3 for uploading / seeding or just network ?

      From Gizmodo

Around the back is where the (extremely limited amount of) action happens; there’s a DC power plug for the Personal Cloud’s external power brick, there’s a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a single USB 2.0 connector. There’s actually a second, USB 3.0 port on the Personal Cloud, and it’s hidden away on the box’s right flank — this is the one you’ll be using to temporarily connect a flash drive or portable hard drive to transfer files to or from the NAS. There’s no secondary Ethernet port, no eSATA, no integrated Wi-Fi or other fancy fripperies like HDMI — it’s just storage, and it’s just a simple network connection that shares it with all your in-home and out-of-home devices.

Seems like a limited device. Wouldn't a HP Microserver be a better option - multi-bay, removable storage? Not 'that' much more - given the additional benefits/ future-proofing.

Good point, how about a link to a 4TB one that doesnt cost 'that' much more.

I previously had a cursory glance around with not much success

      • Yeah. Maybe. Doesn't look like many deals recently. But still - if you don't need 4TB now - probably better to get a Microserver with the storage you need. Add additional storage in future - as required - and as prices come down. Other advantages too - ie it seems like a dedicated device like this dies when the HDD dies (assuming out of warranty) - lifetime of a Microserver should be much longer. Also easier to mirror disks etc - esp for precious photos - if you're not already backing up. Horses for courses as always.

          this review says it all

the enclosure is effectively raid 0 or raid 1 only. Its a tradeoff between speed vs. safety vs. halving the capacity.

Its worth it for the 4tb drive itself but the enclosure is useless to me.

  • Any idea what hdd is in there? Worth buying just for the hdd?

  • Removed listing :( Wonder how many were bought…
