  • Would greatly appreciate it if the community could tell me why you use notes/task/calendar apps over the native apps on a platform (any not just iOS).
I am amazed and confused at how many apps like this exist.
Not being snarky, just genuinely interested in why people make that choice.

    • I used to use Awesome Note for my iPhone and iPad as it had a lot more functionality than the native Notes app which came with iOS. However with the improvements to the native Notes, I no longer use Awesome Note. This is a good price, but realistically the native Notes app is just as good (if not better).

      • Thanks for that! To be clear no arguments on the price. Just curious as to the specific 'must have' features apps like this have that make people abandon native apps and integration.

it's the features, mostly. i have an ipad pro and pencil, so i like having a note app that lets me do things like make recordings while i write, and annotate screenshots etc. i got notability while it was the app of the week some months back, and it's been doing a solid job. the only note app i might consider getting now is goodnotes4 which has handwriting recognition; meaning (assuming your handwriting isn't completely shit) you can search your handwritten notes.

I've been using this app because I like the month view of the calendar and had already purchased it back when I had an iPhone 4s. I find it much easier to view the titles of events on the monthly calendar rather than relying on the dots used on the default calendar. It also lets you view notes and reminders on the calendar if you like everything combined. It syncs with Evernote, so if you aren't willing to pay for iCloud and are running out of space that could be appealing. I really only use it for the calendar view and countdown functionality. If the default calendar would show me the titles of events on the monthly view I would probably stick with the default.
