I bought the wrong baby milk stage 2 formula for my baby at Coles. My wife is making me exchange it because I bought the wrong one but I have lost the receipt. We need stage 3.
I went back to Coles and tried to exchange it:
They said they can't exchange without receipt but they can do a refund of up to $30. I originally bought the cans at $34.60 each.
I know I'm wrong without a receipt. But what can I do? Are they allowed to refund a lower amount?
Even without a receipt they don't have to give you any refund, as it's just a change of mind. You're lucky to get anything.
Formula is a high theft item, so the store is likely to be a little suspicious of return or exchange without a receipt.
I haven't worked for Coles but I worked for Woolies and an independent, and it's incredibly easy to look up previous transactions on a huge number of different queries - pick a day and you can search by the total of the sale, the rewards card number, the register, the time, payment method, number of items - the list goes on.
If you paid by card OP, just ask the Supervisor (it will need to be looked up on the computer - POS terminals won't retain any more than the last 1-5 transactions) to do a search on the total or your transaction on the date you purchase it. They can then verify it against the last four digits of your card, which would be shown on the receipt in their system.
Just find a random Chinese and youll get your refund back plus more

You sound like a complete tight arse who loses receipts. If it bothers you that much stalk abandoned trolleys with coins in them at shopping centres and you will get your bloody $4 back eventually.
Without a receipt they will refund the scanned price. If the current price is lower tough luck for you.
BUT surely if this one is now cheaper, the one you're about to buy will be cheaper too so no big deal?
