Here's one watch that didn't get picked up from yesterday's Starbuy post. Citizen Eco Drive CA0210-51E $279 + postage (free click & collect or $8 to Sydney & $9 other places). It was $349 in last year's sale.

RRP is $699 from Citizen's website although most other places are $350+. A bit of description:

This is a very good watch for the price but watches are a hard-sell these days as not many youngsters appreciate them, except maybe for the very high-end ones.

    • Not entirely true, youngsters would be more drawn to vintage mechanical watches or mechanical watches in general over quartz watches like this one.

That's quite true but I was talking about watches in general. You seldom see young people wearing a watch nowadays, they just use their smartphones for time.

        • I'm 50 and haven't worn a watch since I was in high school, EXCEPT my GShock when I am out kayaking.

        • @ruprectaus:
No reason to change a habit of a lifetime, I suppose. Why are you reading this post? Sorry, just curious.

  • Styles go in an out. I don't have this exact watch but I have one very similar that my mum got me 8 odd years ago. I will never get rid of it because of sentimental value

    BUT…

The watch is in an interesting space. It's not quite sporty and it's not quite dressy. Perhaps putting it on a leather strap would make it better IMHO

The problem with good watches is you never get to replace them.
My 9-year-old eco-drive titanium is still going strong.

  • I'm tempted to get this watch. Being looking for a light weight eco-drive one for a while now. But I think a few people have pointed out that there is a shift towards smart watches which I'm still debating about.

    • Traditional watches and smart watches are two totally different markets.

      • Yes, but there are a number of traditional watchmakers who are introducing hybrid watches to bridge the two. It makes a lot of sense with quartz watches, perhaps less so with mechanical chronographs.

  • I have a very similar Eco Drive (possibly the same one) but the functionality of my Pebble has put me in the smartwatch camp now. I quietly wish that I could wear both the Pebble and the Eco Drive without looking like an idiot.
