Hi I wonder is it true that rangers are off after 5 and if thats the case, whos there to book cars at night?
Surely there can still be a lot of parking offenses after 5 (e.g. clearway parking, overtime parking, not displaying tickets, getting off at no stopping, etc.), I checked police does not book offending cars. So are parking signs just for display at night?
Ranger Working Hours

Gladiator (2000)
Our local rangers do some shift work, weekends etc. If there are streets worth patrolling then the Rangers will be working. Police will act on clear ways or when there is a traffic issue, but won't enforce stuff like two hour parking limits.
Yeppers, the above posts are totally 'on the money'… the coppers will 'radio' a towy to come and pick up anyone in a clear-way quick-smart, any time of day or night, and you can also never count on the 'regular' parking inspectors being off-duty at any time these days… especially now that a lot of municipalities have a 'quota-based' system. Parking signs are DEFO not '… just for display at night', and assuming so could be a very a costly mistake in some areas; for example, a parking ticket in Carlton (Victoria) can be more than $120 depending on the breach.
This is rather old, but just found it, so…
I received a parking infringement at 11:50PM for parking without displaying a ticket. They are definitely still checking.
In Crows Nest NSW, the paid parking hours are until 10 pm, to the dismay of unwary diners who don't use the parking stations. So you can bet council has rangers raking in money for it. I photographed this amusing poster in a shop window many years ago. It was some time after that film with Russell Crowe as Gladiator Maximus.
