The Smart Toast 4 Slice Toaster: Sherbert White - $109 @ Myer (Save $90) Free Delivery

170

I own this toaster and am really happy with it - and think its well worth the price.
The "a bit more" button is great, and silent motorised up/down feature prevents you doing kung fu moves when the toaster unexpectedly pops.

I like my toast medium-dark. The wife prefers warm bread. We each have our own side of the toaster, with our own settings.

Sure you can buy a $10 toaster at Kmart - but after owning this for 4 months I am very happy with this purchase, and I paid $10 more on special in Jan.
2 year warranty. Free delivery over $100 so this qualifies.

This toaster is $228 at OfficeWorks !! If you can get them to price-beat you can get it for $103.

Poor quality, I never spend less than $6k on my toasters.

Hey Duncan, I found him - he's over here!

Good on you, this toaster is obviously for leaners only, not lifters like you. You deserve a heavy government subsidy.

      • It has auto lift, silly. So you can do the leaning

Someone inform Kelly O'Dwyer about the Special please

That's a cheap toaster!!!!!! Someone tell business owners about it!

They can further save money about $5891 and more if they use myerone and get points and/or use woolies gift cards at 5-40% off to buy myer cards from.

Has anyone got anything sensible to comment on the quality of this product?

    • +6

ok here goes… We have two of these are work. They are really cool, and heat up toast to the right perfection, the LED light blinks as it is on and tells you when it is nearly done, it also has other functions like a crispy and a defrost. Basically you put the toast in and it will auto move slowly. It's kinda like futuristic.

      BONUS: It also does crumpets

Reviews on ProductReview are mixed - however Ive noticed after years of researching products that there is an overwhelming skew of negative results on PR - as people are FAR more likely to go to the trouble of posting something after a negative experience with a product, than when everything is working well and as expected.
So while only 5% of people may experience a problem - that 5% might make up 90% of the posted reviews. So take with a grain of salt.

And that is what the warranty is for..

I read Product Review but look if there are lots of comments and if each comment is similar.

I've had mine for 4 years now. It's great! Only issue I had was it would occasionally give off an electrical feedback sound, so I would have to turn it off at the wall. It hasn't happened for a few months though but was very annoying when it did. It could just be my electrics though.

    • We have owned the two slice version for about two years now. Hasn't missed a beat. Does a good consistent job and while I guess not essential, I do like the auto lift function.

We also have sherbet white and I think it looks quite nice.

  • I prefer the $6,000 toastie ;)

I much prefer the 2-slot (4 slice) version - BTA830. It allows you to toast oversized slices (without having to turn the bread around and toast the other end) and still gives you the ability to do 4 regular slices. Plus the narrower (but longer) form factor is likely to be less bulky and more space efficient in most setups.

You ldo lose the individual controls though.

    • Im the opposite - much prefer the 4 slot for a house where 2 people have very different toast likes and dont want to have to adjust the settings every time they use it.

It is a BIG toaster though - takes up about as much room as a medium-large frypan. But it looks really nice.. the white has a sparkly pearl tint to it.

      • Yeah, fair enough! In that case, yeah the bta840 is better for you, with the individual controls! :)

  • +2

Two slot one is also discounted, no free delivery if buying singular tho

  • Nice design, shame about the colour.

We bought one some time ago, cracking good thing. As soon as I saw a toaster without crappy spring-loaded lever-operated actions, I knew I had to have one. It toasts pretty quickly, very evenly and works well on things like crumpets and focaccia (or any other bread where you only want to toast one side).

    Worth it at this price.

If anything, I wish it were bigger for home made bread, that often will have larger slices, in both thickness and length… (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • Jam or sauce on your toast?

  • +1

How does it go popping up smaller things like muffins/round crumpets? My current toaster doesn't push up these guys far enough, though using a steel knife helps

    • It doesnt popup, it auto slowly moves it up, as it has a motor and all not a spring action.

      • So.. uh, the little guys just hide down there? :(

    • +1

Hope you turn off the power first, before inserting the knife!

      • I use a lettuce knife….. stuff ever using metal….

        • TIL: some people have a specific knife just for lettuce

        • Plastic knives apparently prevent discolorations(lettuce oxidizes when it comes in contact with a metal) of leaves when chopped/diced…. Dunno how true this is tho….

  • I much prefer 2 long slots to 4 short slots. Doesn't anyone ever have long slices of bread?

    I won't pay less than $6000 for a toaster.

    • I rustled some liberal voters jimmies, lol

  • There are three questions about toasters:

    1. Does it toast well?
    2. Does it last?
    3. How easy is it to clean?
    • I find mine toasts well. Pretty even both sides. A little darker after you have toasted first time (in a session) since the toaster is already "warmed up".

4 months and going well so far. 2 year warranty. Cant comment beyond that yet.

Wipe it down with a cloth - it has 2 slide out trays (hidden away at the front) that you can easily pull out to dispose of crumbs.

    • +1

See below for points 1. and 2.

Point 3. No it is not easy to clean.

Sure it has two easy to pull out trays which collect most of (but not all) of the crumbs but there are always crumbs that get stuck on the elements, the metal bread holder and in hard to get to places of the toaster. So I have to tip the toaster upside down and carefully shake it out. But in shaking it out I am always worried that I might damage the electronic components inside which would never be the case with a simple mechanical toaster.

    • Also with this toaster I have lots of difficulty toasting bread with slices which are thicker, thinner or longer than standard sizes (e.g. home-made). Thin slices often fall down inside the toaster and it can be extremely difficult to get them out because of the electronic lifting/lowering mechanism.

  • +1

Just be careful to remember to clean out the toaster regularly.

I had the previous version of this toaster without the fruit bread setting and after about 6 months of use, a small crumb lodged across 2 heating element wires which caused the elements to short out and blow up the toaster. This toaster had been discontinued and I had a very difficult time, with Breville and the store I purchased it from, trying to get a replacement. Eventually after speaking to a number of shop assistants I managed to find someone who was nice and gave us the current model.

In the end though this toaster is not much better than the simple one we had previously (which has lasted us for 15 years and still works) and I would not purchase another one again. There are too many electronic components that could fail. We very rarely use the 2 slots at the same time nor the extra functions. The automatic lowering/rising, LED lights that count down and pearly metal finish look nice but the toast is never browned evenly on both sides.

Yeah poor person toaster….go big or go home 6K for me ;)

  • +2

I have this model toaster and love it.
    Great price too.

  • I really want a new 4-slice toaster to cope with the toast rush in the morning but am put off by the many reviews of this one saying that it broke down after a year or two. Anyone have a suggestion for a good 4-slicer with more basic controls and manual lowering/raising?

  • Thank you OP, Was looking out for this toaster or the similar BTA845 model for quite a while… Lost my chance when Target was having a huge clearance sale on these models (https://www.target.com.au/p/breville-bta845-smart-motorised-…). The next cheapest price was $139 on Catch of the Day which i am glad i held off for a while longer to see your post. Also if you use Cashrewards Myer ebay for 1.25% cashback :)

I have the 2 slice version. Cooks crumpets well. I like the way it slowly raises the toast rather than pops up. I get to hum the Thunderbirds theme every time I cook toast.

  • Ozbargained out of stock? :(

    • They will have more stock in a couple of days.

      • Are you just guessing, or are they genuinely going to get more stock?

        • Educated guess, Ive been watching this toaster for months (as I have price protection on it, have already claimed back the $10 drop) and it regularly goes out of stock and then back in stock a day or 2 later.
Very surprised if there is no more to be had…

  • can anyone work out the difference between the BTA635 Lift & Look Touch $69 and BTA830 The Smart Toast 4 slice toaster $150.. They look to have the same features?

    • +1

bta635 is plastic where bta830 is die cast otherwise everything same.
