  • Good price! I picked up a A118C recently so wont grab this myself.

    • +1

Under the hot Australian sun, definitely choose the A118C with super-capacitor over this Yi dash cam with battery.

  • Whats the wifi for?
I got one with wifi, but it does not seem to do anything useful, like uploading the recordings to my home wifi.

You can play back footage through the app - particularly useful if you are in an accident

It can also be used to change settings, view tutorials on how to setup etc.

You can play back footage through the app - particularly useful if you are in an accident

You can also download footage and look at a live view (handy for those that like to drive with their seats almost fully reclined).

Is that the same version? Last I checked that's the Chinese version with everything in Chinese rather than English.

  • Op, It brings to 92AUD though instead of 89AUD. Any idea?

Op, It brings to 92AUD though instead of 89AUD. Any idea?

Serious? The purchase is in USD and the exchange rate is going to vary depending on how you purchase, when you purchase and what payment method you choose. It says approx AU $89.

      • im asking this because if on their website conversion using AUD, it brought to $92 AUD instead. PayPal conversion would be slightly worse, as someone paid $93 on below comments.

        • It's better to use a card through Paypal without currency conversion fees like 28 Degrees or Citibank Plus as you'll get a much better rate. Exchange rate is currently $89.84 AU.

        • Citibank now charges a fee for all transactions made with an overseas merchant even if the merchant accepts payment in AUD.

        • @k0ka2: Is that Citibank Plus? Looks like Bankwest Platinum might be the only choice with 28 Degrees changing too.

  • I got this cheaper Chinese version

After installing the app on my phone, I can choose to read English instead of Chinese.

    • Everything on the camera itself would be Chinese right?

  • I have been waiting for this camera for a long time. They kept saying it will be released months ago. In the end I gave up waiting and bought the A118C.

They said this international version would have a 3M double sided tape compared to the suction cup of the Chinese version. I assumed it would be a different bracket to hold the camera with a double sided tape.

What is the point of a double sided tape when the bracket holding the camera is still similar? We needed a smaller bracket and make the camera more discreet.

Apart from that I think the camera is good. Would still be my number 1 choice.

The fact that it has a battery may be a negative, however consider this. Last week I installed the A118C on my car. On mothers day I parked my car at woolworths parking. I did my shopping and returned to see my car hit at the parking lot.

If I had the Xioami with the battery, would it have recorded longer after the car was turned off?

  • Thanks, been looking for a dashcam, ended up costing $93 through PayPal

  • I remember reading somewhere that the Xiaomi dashcams always need to be manually turned on when getting into the car (unlike other dashcams which auto turn on when engine ignited). Can anyone confirm?

Am asking cause I want both back & front dashcams. The front is fine but I'd rather not have to crawl into the backseat every single time I turn on the car.

    • You might be thinking of the Xiaomi Yi Action Camera that a lot of people used as a dashcam.

      • Ok, glad to read.

  • Hi,

Is there GPS and Parking/Motion option available?

    Thanks,

    • No GPS or Parking/Motion.

      • :(
        :(
        :(

        • Dashcams with that are probably double.

It does have a battery so it'll continue to record after the car has turned off.
