Thinking about Switching from Education Degree with 12 Units Left to Go

Hi,

I'm after some advice from anyone who has switched degrees after being more than half way through. I am studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and have 12 units left before I would finish the course.

However, I don't know why I am thinking about switching to something else like a Bachelor of Children's Services or Bachelor of Human services. Student services is closed today so I can't check how many units would get credited if I were to switch the direction of my career.

If you have studied a degree in education and switched to something else during your studies, what did you change to instead and why? What would put me off changing is if a lot of my units could not be credited to something else.

Hope you can help. THANKS.

I know from your previous postings that you are going through a lot of turmoil in your life at the moment and I understand the thinking behind changing from BEd, in terms of workload and being able to manage.

I don't know what your institution would do in terms of allowing you to change and crediting you for work you have already done - so sorry I can't help you there. But I would ask - what is the likely employment outcome at the end of either of those other roles? It is clear that a BEd leads to primary teaching, but where do the other two take you - and what are employment opportunities like in these fields and do you think they are roles you could do/enjoy etc. Might another option be to put your BEd on hold until things are sorted out and you can then resume to obtain the qualification and the career you were originally working towards?

I believe that people who do teaching have to love it in order to succeed. You might have decided that you don't love it enough and that's leading to your decision - if so, that's fair enough. But do you think that the other two alternatives are going to be something you passionately want to pursue - or are you grasping at straws in the current situation?

Please don't take this as negative criticism - I'm a total stranger just giving my two cents worth. I hope you can find somebody who can actually answer your question. :)

    take care.

    • Hi, thank you for responding. I have taken onboard what you said.

      Regards.

Hi, i did a bachelor of education too. It gets hectic, but its a good stable job.
Even if its a field you dont see yourself staying in for the rest of your life, its still handy to have the degree to fall back on and relief teaching is a sweet gig!!!
