A must have for all hypochondriacs!

    • Now when they ask "Is a Dr in the house?"…you can get some facts BEFORE Dr Google. Thanks grababargain.

Between this and Google I'll be ready to practise medicine, and now all I need is an udemy course to round off my skills.

    • And make sure you complete the Udemy course, rather than accumulate with the hundreds of others on your courses list!! đŸ˜„

  • I prefer holding a hard copy during my doctor's appointments. It makes me look more authoritative.

  • the hardcopy would be the perfect gift for your 5 year old son you want to pressure into doing medicine

Having a quick look, this is useless for most patients. Just an encyclopedia of large words that clinicians use.
The sections on individual diseases are merely short descriptions and do not include Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention as advertised.
The pharmacology section at the start could be useful if you are taking a drug and are unsure of interactions.
You're better of seeing a doctor!

    • So true.. self diagnosis can be dangerous.. Since medicare covers most/all of youe medical bills.. I would not rely on this if I was feeling off.

      • Yeah there is so many conditions out there which can have pretty common symptoms. You're better off seeing a doctor to be safe.

I knew it! I knew my sister had the cooties!

    • Pretty sure the condition is endemic to sisters…

FWIW, Merck Manual has been online and free for a number of years now.

There is a localised version here: http://www.msdmanuals.com/en-au and there is a different version for consumer and professionals.

The Merck Manual has been published since 1899 and is constantly updated. Read more about it here: http://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/resourcespages/abou…

The usual caveats: if symptoms persist go see your health professional etc. etc.

    • Thanks for the link.

As a side note, if you ever get the chance to attend any Merck-Serono professional development, go for it…I've been to a few & they're always chockers with top notch presenters & content.

  • Cool, now I can look up what random sickness I have for each week :-/

  • Just use medscape
