These are grey model overseas imported models. Kogan imports them from Hong Kong.

    No band 28 fyi

    • I'm on Optus through vaya. Will I get 4g with these s7 edge phones?

      • +1

        Yes you will

      • You will, but will get more congested 1800.

    • +1

      who would this affect?

  • what does not having band 28 mean?

    • +4

It means you cant have Telstra 4GX network, but you still be able to use 4G

    • +1

Band 28 is 700MHz LTE so you won't be able to use services that rely on that frequency.

The frequency is used by Telstra and Optus for various 4G services.

Telstra use it to provide super-fast 4G services (that they call 4GX) which essentially uses two bands at once to deliver greater speeds.

An Australian GS7 is equipped for that, while a grey import GS7 without 700MHz obviously won't be. So if you're a speed freak AND use Telstra, don't buy this phone.

I don't know what Optus use 700MHz for, but I am sure Google can help you if you intend to go with Optus or any of its MVNOs.

      • +10

700mhz also has better penetration in buildings etc.
Perfect for those who like to use their phones while on the can deep within a large building.

Just because it's a grey import phone, doesn't mean it's not worth paying that much because we're in Australia and expect Australian Stock. Honestly, it is still from Samsung factory in somewhere Asia, where your Australian stock comes from anyway. Those phones are selling locally in their countries for much higher price point to locals.

Realistically, the difference is the frequency band in countries. If you're with a network carrier that uses same frequency band as asian countries, there's no problem at all. Yes you lose warranty, but then again Kogan is doing their bit. If a multi billion high end tech company makes tens of millions units of sales every year, and expect every single phone to be poorly made and warranty being claimed, will they be out there making billion dollar profits still billions of people happy continuing supporting them?

From an accounting stand point, a successful company really is not going to allocate more than 10% of their provision to warranty. You are not going to find more than 10 out of 100 Samsung S7 to be faulty. If you expect it to be higher than 10% obviously you plan to fail. Yes it is a conservative provision but if actual turns out to be higher or spot on, I have nothing to say but the business is never aiming high that way.

Just my two cents as I come from third world country seeing the phone coming from where I originated for a price cheaper than what locals pay for, it's an insult when you say it's not worth paying that much. Again it's Samsung, coming from the same factory where Australian Stock samsung comes from. Criticize me if you want but Australia is a lucky country and I feel lucky being here with OzBargain, paying less than what the locals pay for.

      Cheers.

a successful company really is not going to allocate more than 10% of their provision to warranty

Out of those 10 warranty claims, I'm guessing 5 will be simple 'software related' fixes, 3 will be minor hardware issues (faulty screen, faulty charger port, etc) and 2 might be catastrophic failures (bad CPU, bad memory, etc). Most of the software and minor hardware fixes are easy enough to DIY by watching a few youtube videos.

If your one of the unlucky 2, with a catastrophic failure on your grey import, just make sure you bought it with a 'premium credit card'. They're normally quite good about purchase protection warranty.

My point is that 'manufacturer warranty' or 'local support' is completely overrated.

      • That's exactly my thought.
I have purchased two iPhone 6's and a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from Kogan, both of which are obviously grey import.
I have had zero issues with them.
So when you do hear horror stories about the products voiding warranty, it's because only the unhappy customers reports these.
Happy customers like me don't really go out of our way to report how good they were.

    • Ohhh 30 hours ago? Man you are sooooooooooooooooo cool.

I just received mine from Kogan and its a G930F which has Band 28 I believe :)

    • How long did the delivery time take with Kogan?

      • Was really quick for me actually. I ordered on Monday (18th) and it arrived yesterday (22nd). It went from Hong Kong to Perth in my case.

  • +4

The description lists both models with the Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890 Octa variants shown.

The snapdragon version is the G930 and is supposed to be U.S only so it's unlikely to be that. The description in Kogan store is probably incorrect unless they are stocking both the U.S and Global variant.

So this should in fact be the global version G930F and this is what has been indicated by people who have gotten it previously from Kogan. This version has the Exynos SOC meaning it should have the following bands.
    EDGE, GSM/GPRS MHz:850, 900, 1800, 1900
    3.5G HSPA+ MHz:850, 900, 1900, 2100
    4G LTE Bands:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 17, 20, 28

So it does seem to have band 28(700mhz)

Too the people saying an imported gs7 would not be compatible with b28 do your research there are in fact only 3 models of gs7 currently they are the the G930 U.S model (820 SOC), the Exynos equipped G930F which is the rest of the world model Asia, EU,AU etc. and the dual sim model G930FD.

    • +1

Chinese dual sim version is snapdragon too.
I do suspect this to be the G930F and therefore with bands 28.

Its almost like the above posts about band 28 are some sort of bot that gets added to every gray import thread….

      • Are you referring to me as a bot ? I am just a person trying to inform people of the correct information regarding this device. What an arragont statement to refer to someone as a bot.

People have specifically stated that they have received the G930F in the past and thus that is the most likely version. If this is same model that they sell in the Hong Kong and Asian marketplace and is not listed as the dual sim then in actuality it should be the Exynos Band28 compliant version G930F not a snapdragon variant. This is the same model sold by the Australian retailers see here; http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/401077610473_mwBanner=1

        All the supported frequency's for this model are listed here;

        • +3

LOL, calm. Not you, the posts further up the page.
Every gray import phone thread is the same, doesnt have band 28, whats band 28, i cant live without band 28.
Even when a gray import has band 28 it played out the same, its quite funny.

I agreed with you it was the international G930F, same one Telstra sells…

        • @Danthemanz:
Sorry for misinterpreting your post :)

    https://www.t-dimension.com/au/samsung-galaxy-s7-g930fd-dual…

Dual Sim f9r $22 extra and covers all Australian network bands

    • The posted phone supports the bands too.
This one is the Chinese version, it uses the snapdragon SOC.
If you specifically want this for reasons of AOSP based roms in the future thats fine, but the international version is a great phone with even better battery life.

      • It's Exynos SOC not Snapdragon. Also it's not specifically Chinese model, they also sell the same model in India, Indonesia, Russia, Taiwan.

        http://www.phonemore.com/phone/samsung-galaxy-s7-duos-sm-g93…

        • Oh, its actually the South East Asian version, the Chinese version is the g9300, its also dual sim and that is snapdragon.
I saw snapdragon in the specs of your first link along with dual sim and assumed it was the Chinese version.

          Anyway, band 28 for all!
Id still go with the international version though…

  • Bands aside, how would the warranty compare vs buying an 'au stock' one from a telco or retailer?

    • Never had to deal with them but review aren't great if your are worried about the warranty issue
      http://estorereview.com.au/s/1205/Kogan

      • That's the only thing about them. So if your getting stock from them and there is no issues with them then your sweet. If you are goign through issues well.. your in sh*t lol.But needless to say i've got a few things from them like tv's. about 5 years strong so far.

Worst case worst local third party repairer will have to do.

    • I've had to do a warranty claim with them for my LG G4 when it had the bootloop issue. The phone took just over a month to get back to me (including shipping from Perth to Melb, them assessing the damage, ordering a replacement phone from HK for me, and return back to me.

  • Pretty good deal with the 15% off good find ! may need to offload my S6 now if i get this one !

  • Who's still holding off this deal? And waiting for Aus stock?

    • I am, hoping there will be some decent EOFY sales and it can drop further

  • Just curious. Do people choose the edge or s7? S7 is cheaper but s7 edge is all around better. Or just hold of and wait for further sale/ new phones like note 6 or iphone 7?

  • +1

    don't forget 1.35% cashback through https://www.cashrewards.com.au/!

  • I know stuff all about frequencies and stuff - though i use the "willmyphonework" website and if we were to be on vodaphone, you wouldnt lack any frequency at all? You get 'big blue ticks' for all the frequencies haha

Is this true or am I just crazy?

  • Wish s7 edge for the same price

  • I'm still waiting for delivery anyone know what's going on
