Hi all,

With the recent Raspberry Pi release, there has been MASSIVE interest in deals such as: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244023 lately!

Some people are keen on using the Pi3 as a Media Player XBMC http://lifehacker.com/5929913/build-a-xbmc-media-center-with…

IMO you need a remote control to navigate - using a keyboard or similar is just not cool.

Here's an awesome deal I made with Becky from everbuying https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/everbuying.net

Its for a Fully compatible remote control for the Raspberry Pi 3 system.

YouTube review:

USD$8.99 or AUD$11.69

Add code: rawm-jominix for full discount. This is my little tribute to jominix for being such an appreciative member of the OzBargain society https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244333#comment-3633850

      • DOes it work on an android box? I have a Mbox

    Hi all,

The current promo of USD$8.99 is the lowest price that can be offered!

USD $8.99 is actually a very competitive price as it retails at ~$15.00 on Amazon.

  • Why Everbuying don't charge in AUD. In both purchases, I have to pay extra.

Any suggestions to avoid extra conversion rate from Paypal.

Just use your TV's remote ;)

Raspberry Pi supports HDMI-CEC. OpenELEC / Kodi should work with your TV's remote out of the box.

    • ^ This.

Should but not always. Depends on your TV. Mine was missing some keys. I ended up using a Logitech k400 keyboard. Doesn't exactly sit in the palm of your hand but it's pretty quick. Hopefully I'll get around to setting up the Harmony Smart Remote that's collecting dust on my shelf.

  • Thanks OP, bang!

Upvote from me for your spirit.

  • Can anyone confirm if it has got an IR remote function to control the TV? Can't seem to find that info.

Thanks Rawn, got one! Hopefully it works with Netflix.

  • Received my free Pi 3 Model B yesterday from IBM.

    • Did I miss something?

Thanks OP, just picked up one, will try it out on my HTPC , if that don't work, it'll make a great peripheral for my collection of raspberry Pi's

    • Let me know how it goes! Expect delivery in between 11 and 25 days.

      Any issues PM me :)

      • Using a K400R currently, not that wife friendly though

Ordering on their mobile site by creating a new account brings the total down to USD 6.81 HTH.

$11.92 AUD by Paypal for me. Don't forget the 4.8% cashback from Cash Rewards.

    • Damn forgot the CR :-(

I've got to warn you, my fellow OzBargainers, that this remote is total cr@p.

I bought this exact one when I got my tv box. The down button failed within a week. By fail I mean it doesn't have that clean click noise when pressing it. The button goes down but it is randomly either the left, right or down button that is activated.
With Kodi you'll use the down button the most because when you go to a new menu you start from the top.
I'd avoid these cheap 2.4GHz remotes. I've got two in the 'broken drawer'.

    • Haha, damn!

Hopefully you have more luck! The keyboard side does have directional buttons however I can remember not liking them. I think it had something to do with needing to point the top of the remote to the receiver.

  • I got 2 of these from reputable local seller on eBay about 6 months ago for $25 each, the quality of the ones I have are good, but looking on eBay you will see some cheaper copys (or maybe not) for around $8 AUD. The only issue I have with mine is battery life/power staying on. I can't seem to have the remote turn off when I use it with my NUC so the battery is dead by the next time I use the remote (It really could of used a physical on off button) besides that i HIGHLY recommended these especially for this price if it's not a cheap copy.

  • Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new to this. Would this remote work on my Samsung smart TV to control Netflix, presto, fetch etc as well as browsing the Internet? Thanks

    • Fundamentally yes, it can be connected to the USB port of your TV and used as a replacement for a wireless keyboard etc.

  • Cool thanks, so it can't be used wireless for my setup so theirs no point. Cheers

  • Looks pretty poor as a remote, considering the lack of dedicated keys on the remote side.
