Dick Smith Bubble Wrap Roll $2.00 Sydney George Street

The "branded" TVs seem to be coming out from the back as well. Note that there are more "branded" TVs at the store located within Myer's food court. They seem to be all in their boxes unopened, stacked periodically.
Samsung UHD 60 inch $1.7k
Panasonic 55 inch $1.3k

Any special on Staff, are they selling them? :p

    • What do you mean?

      • Just kidding …

      • +1

I thought the dickinvestors would be using the bubble wrap to ship the staff out on the last day

    • Sounds like every thing is for clearance sale, including kitchen sinks.

      • +23

Too true. I was looking at a Samsung TV that had a good price. I did a model search at it was from 2011. The staff member admitted they had taken it off the lunch room wall.

    • Any hot ones?

  • +2
  • +3

Would one of these replace a human babysitter?

    • +4

Yes and Ferrier Hodgson will honour all warranty claims in the event something goes wrong.

      • (replied to the wrong comment, meant to be the one below)

        @llama

Their profits must be razor thin though. You still gotta pay staff wages, taxes, and other business expenses to keep the doors open

  • +15

I can't believe that these stores are still turning a profit at this stage of closing down. There is nothing in store, yet the lights are on and staff at the tellers. The receivers are just dragging it out as long as they can to maximise the fees they can charge.

    • +9

Of course, that's what receivers do. And from experience, Ferrier Hodgson are absolute pros at it.

    • While this is bad news for investors surely it is good for the staff?

    • +2

they have lease termination times and staff notice times and have worked those things out. some of the stores are already closed so they know when it becomes unviable due to what is left and the costs to keep the lights on.

    • profit is the last thing they are making

  • Got the Samsung UA55JU6400 for $1186 today. Pretty good for that price.

    • +21

considering its been ~$1300 previously I would have expected a bigger 'we need to get rid of everything' price

      • +2

You're not going to see 50% of the "street" price of brand name stuff. I wouldn't touch the Dick Smith branded TV's even for $500 for the 65in FHD. But the Samsung is of known quality with factory warranty.

        • +2

They will have to if nobody buys. We have time on our hands. They don't. It's a hard deadline to liquidate all stock.

        • +10

You will probably be surprised what quality Samsung actually is. Just google 'samsung TV lines' to see all the problems people have had with black lines appearing on the screen of both Plasmas and LCDs. I know because it happened to me and Samsung wouldn't do anything about it on a 2.5 year old 50 inch TV. Lucky for US buyers a class action law suit was successful and Samsung was forced to do repairs. Have a read of this article to see what Samsung quality is http://www.dailytech.com/Samsung+to+Pay+Millions+to+Settle+L… Oh and don't forget all the Samsung washing machines that actually went up in flames. I'm never buying a Samsung product again that's for sure.

        • +4

          @skysurfer:

Agreed. Samsung is overrated. I've many issues with mine and my mums TV. Both Samsung. 😣

        • +3

@djcharliek: Some 20 years ago, Samsung was considered a low-quality budget brand in Europe.
I have a Samsung blu-ray player and it's horrendous. Slow, unresponsive, and frequently have to pull the plug and put it back in because it froze and doesn't respond to any commands anymore. No Samsung for me.

        • +4

@Make it so: LG is the same. Stupid me didn't learn the first time. Cheap is all they are rated

        • +3

The Samsung TV's are of the same quality as the Samsung washing machines with the exception that they don't send your house up in flames!

        • @Molten:

FWIW have a Samsung Front Loader that other than needing a $40 belt replacement about 6 years in has worked like a champ. Going on 8 years now ???? Obviously not a top loader :)

        • +1

          @djcharliek: I'm happy with my S6 Edge!

        • @djcharliek: i only hear anecdotal whinging, i dont hear fairly priced alternatives

and [@Make it so], using 20 year old references to current models? surely technology hasnt improved since then

surely samsung arent a leader in LCD panel manufacturing

        • they got a good reputation as they used to have a zero dead pixel warranty when other computer monitor supplier didn't ….. they eventually diluted that warranty so became like all other in regards to quality.

        • +2

@Make it so: Korean electronics were considered that. Lucky Goldstar aka LG these days were the worst of the lot. Then again nowadays the Philips & Sonys are rarely made in Holland or Japan. They're mostly rebadged OEM jobs mostly coming out of factories in China & SE Asia.

Luck can be part of it too. I have a 17" Samsung LCD monitor which was bought secondhand that I've used for nearly 10 years. It works but I upgraded last month because I wanted a WS monitor.

        • pitches tent

        • @rawm:

I'm happy with my S6 so far besided bad battery life. Phones are ok. But anything else by samsung is horrible.

        • @skysurfer:
Samsung just replaced my 5 year old 63" plasma with a UHD LED. I am personally pretty happy with their service.

        • @djcharliek: Yup, they do their planned obsolescence well. As in days after the warranty ends, 2 friends have needed new ones.

        • @lamprey: Yeah, LOL, Goldstar was a joke, and LG is just Goldstar renamed to get rid of the taint on the company name for poor quality.

        • @furythree:

My tvs are like 6 years old. I have no reason to lie. Probably stick to Sony tvs for myself in future.

        • I bet you got it from jb hifi :P

    • Was that price for brand new or a display one?

      • +3

Was in the front window, but pretty much spotless (I checked everything)

  • +2

Good price on the bubble wrap.

  • +25

The apprentice brought a roll of bubble wrap back to work.
He asked me where to put it.
I told him to pop it in the corner.

When I looked later it had all gone flat.

    • +2

That must have taken a while. Poppig an entire roll of bubble wrap.

    • +2

      Boom tish…!

  • +1

  • +2

  • Dann I'm moving. Bubble wrap at my local ds was $35 a roll, I'm smarter than that.
