  • how's the battery life on them?

    • Website says 12 hours, it's got a very efficient processor, so not impossible I guess.

      • +6

Out of 12hrs of battery life, 10 hours will be spent on loading

      • 12 hours after refurb? i didn't see that on seller's site… will have another look.

        • Factory refurbished units often have new batteries.

        • @KentT:
agree, but hoping that OP can confirm.
          replacement batteries look expensive.

        • @battler:
I keep mine in the car, and park outside 9-5 every day. In a WA summer, that's pretty bad conditions for a battery. I've had it about 6 months with no discernible loss of battery capacity. It's good quality.

I wouldn't even think about replacing batteries in something this cheap.

  • This site says 12 hours!

that sounds great. Anyone used one of these? I'm tempted!

    • Can't go wrong for the price, provided it's a simple web browsing / video watching machine :)

    • Don't know about refurb but love mine bought new 10 months ago. Really light and long battery life. Speedy enough for ordinary Internet browsing, email and standard office tasks. More comments can be found by searching OzBargain and at

      • What are the viewing angles like on the screen?

        • Viewing angles are fairly terrible. TN not IPS.

          Battery life really is great.

It's a bit slow to start up from cold - and because it's completely silent you're often not sure you pushed the power button properly. It takes a few seconds before the backlight comes on.

ETA: Windows 10 works fine on it, no driver issues. It has a "Free Windows 10 upgrade" sticker on the box.

The blueish finish is quite stylish, but I swear it soaks up fingerprints even if you just hover your hand near it.

        • @KentT:
Thanks, not all TN panels are bad.

Apparently the MacBook Air has a TN panel but a good one.

        • @SamR:
That might just be my impression of it.

It's been quite a few years since I've used anything but IPS. You get spoiled with phones and tablets.

          ETA:
          Nope, it's terrible.

god damn if only this was a convertible id bite

    • It's not even touch screen.

      • And it cannot make phone calls, nor print.

        HELLLOOOOOOooooo…. It's a $179 LAPTOP.

        • Yes. I know. I own one.

I'm just saying it wouldn't be super useful when converted.

        • @KentT:

Super useful when converted to what?

(and sorry, I think I originally missed the underlying meaning of your earlier post).

        • @llama:
Convertible as in.. remove the keyboard and use it as a tablet.

Tablets are much less useful without touch screen.

  • any one know a good 15 inch laptop that has a good keyboard for typing, good battery life, slim as possible not bulky, brand doesn't matter much more about performance and looks sleek. i want it to be preinstalled with windows 10. budget about $300-500.

    • +2

      15 inch, non-bulky, $300-500
      choose 2

      • 15 inch non bulky

        • +2

          dell XPS 15.

        • @xyron: That is a good laptop but that is way out of my budget of $300-500.

        • +1

          @jamesvre:
Which is why battler said pick your priorities.
There are no non-bulky 15in laptops in your budget.
          You might get a 13/14in in a non-bulky size around $700.
If you can handle a 2.5kg big 15in then they can be had at $500.

        • @mskeggs: ok i can handle a 2.5kg 15in, any brand you can recommend. I will only use it for study so i want the keyboard to be good.

        • @jamesvre:
I would take a look at JB or Harvey Norman to find some examples with keyboards you like. It is hard to recommend a keboard for somebody as they are so subjective.

        • @jamesvre:

I will only use it for study so i want the keyboard to be good.

There is NO "good laptop keyboard" especially at your price point. That's because they are laptop keyboards, and they are never any good to type on.

It's not hard… If you want to spend $300-500 on a laptop and you want the keyboard to be good, then just go and buy a good keyboard.

  • In the checkout, only shipping option is "Pickup from store $0"

However in the product title is the wording Free Shipping

Went ahead with the order and put a note that I request it is shipped to my address, hopefully this comes through to me.

  • What is the go with delivery rep? Says free delivery in product description "Asus X205TA-BING-FD015BS Intel Quad-Core Z3735F/2GB/32GB/11.6"/Windows 8.1RefurbishedFree Shipping"

My other question is regarding warranty? How does that work? Would I need to call some number or bring it back to store or there is support centres in all capital cities?

    • Asus have their own repair centre in Sydney, not sure about any other city. It is up to you. If you want to send it back to retailer or direct to Asus. They have to pay the return postage, but you may have to pay to send.

    • delivery is via Courier or Australia Post, it's 1 year Asus warranty, they provide free pick up and return within warranty period. just simply call Asus service centre. Asus alos got service centre in some Capital cities, please check Asus website.

  • So this is really the spiritual successor to the old AspireOne netbook, I think. Small screen, good portability, good battery, but slow performance, poor storage size.
Would be good to take out occasionally if your main machine is a desktop and you once in a while need to type a doc or browse the web on the road/in a meeting.

    • I think you mean , eee pc - they were first.

  • Any office 365 with this?

    • sorry, don't include the office 365.

  • sorry, don't include the office 365.

    • What about the battery? Is this new battery?
