    • Thanks :)

      • Thought I would post the description there for everyone else to save them going to the site for it. :D

Does it come with a sticker or glue for the heatsink?

        • Yes it comes with a sticker :)

  • +1

Hi Stonee, do you happen to have the power cable on your website? I would like to purchase one as well.

      • Do you sell the power supply?

        • If you mean power bank, any power bank for phones can be adapted for raspberry pi as supply:)

        • If you mean power adapter, we already have a micro USB cable, it can easily turn any phone charger adapter with a micro USB port into raspberry pi charger:)

        • phone chargers will work just as well, please refer here:
          http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/43285/raspber…

        • +3

          @Stonee:

Most review sites recommend a 5v 2.5Amp power supply however, which most phone chargers wont be. Other kits on Amazon include a 2.5Amp power supply, but the kits are more expensive than this one.

    • HI, you could use the micro USB cable included in the pack to change 5V 2.5 A phone chargers for the raspberry pi 3 kit :)

  • +1

Bit the bullet and bought one. Thanks OP

  • Is there any reason we need the following:

1* High Quality Micro-usb Cable, (easily change phone chargers into raspberry pi charger)
    1* Heat Sink
1* USB Serial to TTL(Foca Pro)
    1* 300mm 4 Color Dupont Wire Pack(20pcs)

Can we get a deal without these? I didn't think RP3 needed a heat sink?

  • ……..and don't forget, it doesn't run on Fresh Air. You need a Power supply. I don't see it included in the package (or am I missing something).

    • Hi Borg, If you mean power adapter, we already have a micro USB cable, it can easily turn any phone charger adapter with a micro USB port into raspberry pi charger:)

  • +5

mmm, you are assuming everyone has a spare phone charger. The other thing to note is that not all Phone chargers will work well. This is especially true if you plan on connecting USB Devices (like a HDD). The Pi needs a better Power Supply eg the recommended 5V 2amp. Most phone charges are only 5v 1Amp or even 900Mah although I will stand corrected. Without enough power the unit will Freeze PLUS your charge will get somewhat hot if drawing too much? Only an issue if you plan on plugging in USB HDD and expect Pi to supply power to it.

    • It should work just as well, you could refer here:
      http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/43285/raspber…

      • +2

Well, they are sort of agreeing with me i.e. as one thread states, "a USB drive could use up to 1.2 Amps".

Most phone charges are only 1amp. I am only noting this from personal experience. If you plan on plugging in Devices like USB drives that are to get power from the Pi,do yourself a favour and buy a 5V 2amp decent quality power adaptor. There is nothing worse than your device freezing out of the blue due to low or inconsistent power (especially if watching a Movie).
Having said that, they will run fine stand alone on a 5V 1amp phone charger. Not all power adaptors are alike and the older Apple iPhone chargers didn't work well(in my experience) regardless of it being 5v 1amp. No idea why. Anyhow, Just something for new users to be aware of.
        Cheers

PS: Great value deal you have there for those starting from scratch.

        • Hi Borg, you are right about the charger. but still i would quote from Riker88:
"Most review sites recommend a 5v 2.5Amp power supply however, which most phone chargers wont be. Other kits on Amazon include a 2.5Amp power supply, but the kits are more expensive than this one."

          @Stonee:
All good and my comment was more reminding end users that a Rasp Pi requires a Power Supply. You would be amazed at how many people buy a Rasp Pi thinking everything is included in a Starter Kit. Disappointment only occurs when one goes to plug it in and not finding a power adaptor. :-)

        • @Borg: You are absolutely right, thanks for bringing this up: )

I bought from element14 with next day delivery for $65

this deal may take couple of weeks? pretty good deal if you are not in a rush.

    • This pack can get AU within 2 weeks:)

    • I'd expect to pay $56 with free shipping (above $45)
      http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi-modb-1gb/ra…

      • +1

Unfortunately, the prices on Element14 are ex GST, so you actually pay $61.60 with free delivery…

        • correct, my $65 is ballpark figure, cant remember the exact amount

        • ahh, my bad, I normally buy stuff from element14 for work, forgot about the ex-gst thing

        • @effgee: We have DHL express shipping service as well. one week arrival.

  • Do you sell shield for RS-485 (Modbus)? I'm looking at creating a data logger for a power meter.
    Thanks.

  • +1

Great deal OP! If I hadn't got the free IBM RPI 3 I would have jumped on this deal ;)

  • What everyone are planning to do with it?

  • Guys the cases from Aliexpress are super cheap

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/10PCS-LOT-Raspberry-Pi-Model-…

$1.15 USD for very ugly ABS black plastic case and heatsinks

I'm going to hide my Pi underneath the desk so it's out of the way. Any compromises with this?

    • LOL just noticed the US $21.76 shipping…lol in total it's US$22.91

      • Free Shipping to Australia via China Post Ordinary Small Packet Plus

might want to read a bit closer

        • Ah, you are right. this mailing usually with no tracking. but only $1.15, worth giving a try. cheers.

  • Hey Rep!
I've heard some chatter about the SD card being crucial to the 'speed' of the Pi - Im a newbie sorry, but could you confirm the Toshiba you are offering is sufficient or would you recommend a faster rated SD card?

    • +1

Hi RAWM, the Toshiba SD card we are offering is with high speed. 8GB. it would be sufficient for the RPI kit:)

      • Thanks OP! Can you also comment on the need of a device such as a wireless keyboard/control unit for this?
Do you offer such an item? Once again a newbie question! :)

        • +1

HI RAWM, i don't see the necessity to buy keyboard and control for the kit. but if you insist, i personally recomand logitech, they have good quality. hope it would help: )

        • Thanks! One last question I promise!

I'm keen on getting this for my house (as a Media Device) but not keen on connecting my modem to this device/my television which is approx. 12mtrs away; does the Raspberry Pi work via WiFi signal - ie. can it relay a signal via Wifi or does it need to be Ethernet connected?

          I hope this makes sense.

It's terrible I know, but I'm still trying to understand how Raspberry Pi works!

        • +1

@rawm: Hi, RAWM, I am so glad that you are interested in this product.
rpi3 already has WIFI function, with 10 meters reach. you can connect via your home wifi.
If it doesn't work, then you could connect via Ethernet. Hope it helps :)

  • Really Tempted… How long will the free shipping take though? Don't think I wanna wait a few months… Has anybody had experience with their shipping?

    • 2 weeks of arrival to AUS with tracking :) it should start tracking online within 3 days:)

    • made a order a week ago still saying processing… not sure i will receive my goods within 2 weeks as mentioned

      • Glad I held back then… lets see how worse it could get.

      • Hi, please PM me your order number so i could check for you?

  • +2

Rep, can I get deal for pi only? I have other stuffs.
    PMed you

I applied $2 off code. Totally it's 42.47 US Dollar equals
54.34 Australian Dollar, only aud$2 cheaper than au.element14.com because of the shipping fee :-(
    Thanks

    • +2

Unfortunately, the prices on Element14 are ex GST, so you actually pay $61.60 which makes it about $7.26 more expensive - could still be worth it for much faster (next day) delivery!

  • +1

Thanks. Time to upgrade my old pi's ;)

  • Hi Stonee, I recently purchased the starter pack + the case for $60 USD which should translate to ~76.71ish AUD.
However I was charged $80.35 AUD through Paypal and I am just wondering why this is? I am quite tight on my budget at the moment so this affects me a lot.
    My receipt number is 2798-2010-2781-5550
    Thank you and kind regards,
    Travis.
Edit: I tried to pm you but I don't have the privilege as this is a new account.

    • because you paid in USD via paypal and paid paypal's nominated exchange rate?
      this isnt the retailers 'fault'

paypal say they charge 'To US or Canadian dollars 3.5% above the exchange rate'
pretty much explains your calculation of 'spot rate' conversion compared to 'real/paypal rate' conversion

I am quite tight on my budget at the moment so this affects me a lot.

not to be blunt, but if $4.50 effects your budget 'a lot' then raspberry pi 3 purchases might be better lower down the priority list, or at least understand how currency conversions work (or get a credit card which does not charge currency exchange fees like 28deg etc)

      • Ah, that makes sense.

  • +1

Tempted to buy one of these for fun - install Kodi and / or plex and take on holidays using laptop as the server over wifi. (I have a nice MythTV / Kodi / Plex setup at home with a dedicated back-end and 3 front-end mini pc's over ethernet but would be fund to play around with this.) To keep it compact and use with an IR remote I'm guessing it would be nice to have a usb flirc receiver dongle - rather than the large MS IR with usb cable that I currently have for my htpc's. Something like this ? https://flirc.tv/flirc-usb?tracking=55b253fdb73e9 Any recommendations or comments about that ?

    • No replies re Flirc dongle? I suppose it is pretty expensive and there are other options for controlling the pi. Went ahead and bought one - and the case.

      • If you've got basic electronic skills, you can just solder on an 99c TSOP4838 IR receiver directly to one of the GPIOs.

I was considering this, but ended up using the CEC control over HDMI.
kodi has a wifi remote you could use, and there is also bluetooth available now.

        • Cool. Thanks for that.

  • Hey OP.. Trying to put in an order for some NEXTION displays and a few other bits and peices. The ITEAD2OFF code works, then fails once you log in.

  • Hi Rep,
How long does it take for the order to move to shipped? Mine is still sitting in processing from my order last week?

    • could you PM your order number so i could check for you?

  • Hi. So when should I expect to see mine? Order was April 19th and you mention in this forum we should expect to wait two weeks.

Has anyone else started getting theirs yet?

    • +1

Mine arrived today. Ordered 22 April. Shipped 27 April.

    • We ordered on the 19th as well and it hasn't arrived. The tracking code doesn't work on the Aust Post website either.

      • Lenneth, Please PM me your order number so i could check for you

      • Mine arrived last night… but yes, could not seem to get any tracking working.

    • HI mooney, please PM me your order number so i could check for you.

      • No need. It arrived last night. Thanks

  • I ordered a few bits and pieces a week after my post above (22/4). order came to about $90AUD. Got it Tuesday this week. Choose the free shipping, must have only taken 2 weeks. came from HK.

Funnily enough, came on a Aust post courier on a motor bike.. and even funnier.. he actually rang my doorbell!! That was the biggest shock of all!

    • Glad you got your raspberry pi, are you satisfied with the products then?

  • Mine arrived today. All looks OK.
