    What's peoples thoughts on these?

    • +3

Let's just say I've shifted 90% of my cooking to my ActiFry. But maybe that's because I'm lazy.

      • Do you find it's bit hard to clean the plastics? Especially parts with the emboss logo n wordings?

        • +1

The bit at the front where the logos are isn't too hard to clean, just the parts at the back and the inside-top that are the hard ones. However, keep in mind that the plastic bit will start getting dirty / look worn out after your first use unfortunately due to the white colour. Within a week or two it'll look like you've owned this thing for years.

      • +1

        I'm the same. Love mine

    • i have 2. you can cook a meat pie in about 20 mins. No heat in the kitchen.. crunchy beer battered fish.. i love them.

      • +1

How can you cook a meat pie in one of these? It'd get crushed beyond recognition by the paddle.

        • Remove the paddle.

        • yep remove the paddle… last night we had crumbed chicken that was cooked in them… i dont use the paddle often

        • @seyshell:

Don't you end up with a bunch of crumbs falling through the hole?

    • can cook pretty much anything except large piece like whole chicken or liquid stuff like baked pasta or stew because it has a rotating paddle sticking out in the middle.

      • it says it does casseroles etc and the paddle helps stir it.

        • +1

yeah, but make sure your casserole is not to liquid, otherwise it will leak.

    • Best cooking invention ever. I flogged my first one to death by routinely putting 1.25 kg in the 1 kg model. It still lasted 3 years, and then I got the 1.5 kg model. Perfect for chips and chicken wings especially. If you actually want a 4 portion model get the 1.5kg.

  • Shame it is only the white version. All my appliances are stainless steel/black :)

  • how do you find this deal on the ebay app?

  • +1

Saw a similar, Aldi-branded, version of this on the markdown pile at Aldi's Gladesville (Sydney, NSW) yesterday for $99.00. They had about 5-6 in stock. I imagine that the Tefal is probably a better machine, but still it's another option.

  • For anyone that has one, can you cook without the centre rotator in there?

    • +2

No problems cooking without the centre - I will reheat pizza slices, pies, sausage rolls, fish, crab cakes all without the centre peace and all end up crispy and perfectly cooked. Because my son couldn't possibly wait too long for a pie/sausage roll, I will heat them from frozen in the microwave and then put in Actifry for 4 minutes to crisp up the pastry.

I originally bought one of the cheap Avancer air fryers and it was an utter piece of crap - you had to stop half way through and mix up chips to get them to fry evenly. The Tefal is 1000% better - some things do get mushed up with the centre piece, but then they get crispy and delicious.

As a side, I have found that the Woolworths Select chips are better than the branded ones. I also use spray oil(home brand) instead of a teaspoon of oil and cook for 24 minutes then open and sprinkle salt or chicken salt and run for another 2 minutes - freakin awesome….

      • Thanks, I will get one.
I have an Avancer one too, it is not cooking as well now, and the small volume has bugged me since day one, plus it is impossible to clean fully due to the basket design.
We cook garlic bread and toast hamburger buns so that centre part was a concern, but one video made it look possible to cook while removed.
Compared to your Avancer, do you find the cooking times longer? The manual list a bunch of times, and they are all longer than I do currently with Avancer. I don't currently use oil with chips or wedges, and will see how that goes with the Tefal too.

        • From memory the Avancer used to do chips in 22 minutes - 12 minutes then shake and on for another 10 - so the answer is yes but the reduced hassle and better final product is way worth it.

        • @petebern:
I used this last night. Compared to the Avancer, a lot noisier, but otherwise cooked the frozen wedges in the same time, and probably better overall due to the constant moving instead of occasional shake up. I didn’t use oil as I didn’t with the Avancer, and all good. Happy with the extra volume, being 1,000,000,000,000,000 times easier to clean, but I really should read the manual, I expected it would turn off when the timer finished.

  • I am interested but know nothing about these cookers, so I am wondering:
Is it safe to eat food cooked in these.
Is the inside plastic, aluminium, stainless steel ?

    • +7

      No it's not safe.
These should only be bought as ornamental kitchen appliances.
There's been thousands of reported acti-fry related deaths due to plastic poisoning but TEFAL just keep pumping them out to unsuspecting customers - bunch of savages.

      • +3

LOL! I'm going to use mine as a paper weight to keep the pages of recipe book down.

  • I bought the $69 air fryer couple days ago……
Not sure I'd use it that m7ch to justify nearly double cost?

  • People's thoughts on this v the old turbo ovens (halogen light and fan) that were popular a few years ago?

    • +1

IMO - they're excellent for frozen chips and small sausages. I wouldn't try much else in it though.

    • +2

Not as much room, but easier to clean. I destroyed two turbo ovens from being an idiot while cleaning the lid.
Room is the biggest advantage I can think of for the turbos.
Easier to get hot food out of these air fryers.

    • +1

These are great for chicken pieces and hot chips.

I dont remove the turner. I find things like fish are too delicate for this as the turner smashes it.

I use mine (I have 2) a couple of times a week. I like it.

I never add any oil to anything….

Bought on of these a month ago. Makes the best honey soy salmon 5 min cooking time

  • Sold Out :(
