Thanks for telling us existing customers that we can use 4G now.

    • Hey Duketing,

It's still being rolled out to our new and existing customer over the coming weeks. Once everyone has it we'll let you know :) Hope you enjoy it when you get it!

    • It's a staged roll out so nothing official until the 21.04.

  • +7

you really should consider lower data plans, why fight for the $50 range only?
I have decent internet at home and office, I only needs data when out, currently 1GB is ok but I'd like 2-3GB plan for half this price - if so I'll bite.

    • Hey Jamesx,

Alway keep an eye out, we might have something for you in the future ;)

    • Here's the other ones they're not telling you about…
      https://www.telechoice.com.au/?/live-plans

      • Hey Sysplex,

Thanks for sharing :) Keep in mind, the $15 and $20 LIVE plans are only for existing TeleChoice customer switching off our grandfathered plans.

        • -1

I fail to see the incentive to change to the new plans.

My grandfathered Telechoice plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128649) gives me 1gb of data, $500 credit, and unlimited SMS for $20 a month, which makes it identical to your new "Live 20" plan.

If the best value for money Telechoice can offer is the same deal they've been offering for over two years, then it says to me that I should start shopping around elsewhere for a better deal.

        • +1

          @MrClown:

Well, there is actually significant incentive to change (and at no cost to you!). At least there was for me.

Main one being $10 per gig for excess data versus >$150 on old plan.
Then there is 4g and free MMS

        • +1

          Hey MrClown,

While they're the same price, the $20 LIVE plan has lots of functional benefits including:

          1. The ability to use 4G when if you are in a 4G area
          2. Unlimited MMS (Previously $0.55/MMS)
          3. Ability to check your usage from your phone by dialling *159#
          4. Ability to buy $10/GB data packs

Lots of people continue to ask for our $20 plan, this way our existing customers can keep the price they love with the benefits of our new LIVE platform ;)

        • -1

I think what MrClown is getting at, is, if you live comfortably within the $20 plan, then the new $20 plan offers nothing.

          In fact…

The ability to use 4G when if you are in a 4G area

          quickly leads to…

Ability to buy $10/GB data packs

        • +1

          Hey Sysplex,

You can always switch 4G off if you feel like you're consuming too much data :)

        • @MrClown: >I fail to see the incentive to change to the new plans.

And I fail to see why you would not want to change plans especially since I was told over livechat that there would be no sim delivery fee and that there would be no lock-in. Feel free to go elsewhere but if you can find a better deal that uses the Telstra network and offers more value, don't forget to share it.

        • That's right ChillBro

There is absolutely no downside to switching to the newer LIVE plans.

  • Hi

What does it mean that “TeleChoice uses part of Telstra’s 3G mobile network”

Is this the same coverage for country areas as telstra?

    Thanks

    • +1

      Hey Slipperypete,

TeleChoice uses whats know as the 'Telstra wholesale network'. This does vary slightly from the full Telstra network so we always recommend our customers check out our coverage map first :)

      • Hi

Not sure if you are still browsing this thread.

For me it's next to impossible to figure out what the difference between the two is. I see there is a difference in the percentages of coverage but is that certain towers that arent available or what?

Is there any way to determine what this difference is…or what it means?

        Thanks

        • Get Slipperypete,

The difference will be in particular areas not having coverage (being exclusively covered by Telsra).

The coverage map above really is the best way to check our coverage. Have a look at where you go and see if these areas are covered by us.

We do not have a specific list of places excluded.

Why is everyone being so brutal?
I've been a telechoice customer for a while now with no complaints, extremely solid network, a million times better than optus (can't compare to vodafone as I havent been with them since social media literally destroyed the company).

I noticed recently that I have switched over to 4G, but I am yet to really notice the difference because I found Telstras 3G network to be solid as hell anyway…

    • Thanks Rambutann!

Great to hear positive feedback from our customers :)

    • +1

      Hey rambutann

I don't think there is much brutality.

As for my question…I live in the country and I mountain bike in areas that lose signal. I'm presently with optus. This is a safety issue and have been looking at changing to telstra for a long time but just cannot get over the differences in data value. I'm also not a phone guru and looking on coverage maps see little difference between providers. However when I saw this it looked pretty good until I saw it uses "part of telstra network'

What would be perfect for me is to know what areas are missing and then if it doesn't affect me I would swap tomorrow. I mean is it specific areas that are lacking? Telstra apparently has a 99.3% coverage. Telechoice has 98.5% which is the same as optus. No point me swapping if I'm no better off…or even worse!!!

      • Hey Slipperypete,

Just responded to this one above :)

  • Do you keep the bonus data after 12 months and stay on a month to month to month contract?

    • Hey BlinkyBill,

Yep, 11GB remains after the 12 months :)

      • One more thing I forgot. Do you have a data sharing sim option like Optus? I currently make use of this with phone and tablet data sharing. If you also have this then done deal!

        • Hey BlinkyBill,

No data sharing unfortuantely - each SIM has its own data pool.

That wouldn't stop you from tethering your phone to your tablet though, allowing you to use your mobile data (from your phone) on your tablet (and vice versa).

        • @TeleChoice:

It's just more continent with the second data sharing sim.

        • This. Would love to see this! An instant win for me… And I'd never leave you!

        • Hey BlinkyBill and alterego13,

I would be inclined to agree with you guys :D Data sharing is a platform feature and at this time our platform does not have provisions for data sharing. If we do in the future add this feature, we'll be sure to let our new and existing customer know.

  • After getting good coverage for over a year on a KM plan. I made the mistake of accepting a switch offer to a Live plan. After I switched to Live plan I got frequent network disconnected messages on the same phone that used to get great reception. I had one service call after another open for over two months, Telechoice kept closing them unresolved. In the end Telechoice Technical Support said I would need to install an antenna in my house. The irony was that I had always received freat reception in my house, it was while commuting that I had the problem sometimes right in the middle of Sydney CBD. It would seem that the Live plans have far less access to Telstra towers than the previous Global plans.

    • +2

That's a surprise to me and I've also not heard of others complaining on the Whirlpool Telechoice forum.
Personally, coverage probably better after going to Live 4G, certainly not worse.
Maybe a setting on your phone?

    • Hey laser,

The switch to LIVE shouldn't affect coverage at all. We do a SIM replacement to move you to LIVE so this might be the culprit. If your still awaiting a solution on this one please direct message us your account details :)

      • SIM replacement was done but didnt fix anything. The complete apathy of your customer service was apalling. All I got throughout was "You are not under contract you can terminate contract." Absolutely zero interest in fixing my issues.

        • +1

There isn't an issue to fix, you have a new sim, which didn't fix the 'issue'. What else do you want them to do? There's nothing that can be done, switching plans doesn't affect coverage AT ALL in the slightest if you have any concept of how phones work.

        • Hey Laser,

Interesting, beyond issuing a SIM replacement, our only other option from there would be lodging a fault. Have you had a chance to try the SIM in any other handsets?

As SuBw00Fer has added, the switching of SIMs to change you to the LIVE plan shouldn't affect your coverage at all.

        • @SuBw00FeR: Then explain how a Global plan SIM works perfectly in the same phone in the same area. And why did the carrier name change from Telstra on Global plan SIM to Telechoice on Live plan SIM?

  • +1

+1 from me as well, I love TeleChoice I don't know why people hate on them so much.

TBH I never cared for 4G as I'd only ever be using my data for FB and occasional YouTube (Which still worked flawlessly anyways) And now that they are giving us 4G is a huge bonus to not have to deal with Telstras bullshit plans.

I'll be with TeleChoice for a VERY long time.

    • Great to hear SuBw00Fer :)

  • So i would be getting the same coverage i get with boost?

Currently on their $40 unlimited plan but your $28 plan would probably suit me, I assume if i sign a contract i can upgrade to the $38 plan if i need to?

    • Hey Bigsta,

Boost uses the full Telstra network whereas we use the Telstra wholesale network. The difference shouldn't be that noticable, but we always ask that you check our coverage map first - https://www.telechoice.com.au/our-mobile-network

As for your second question - yes, you could start on the $28 plan and then move to the $38. If you upgrade to a promotional plan you will need to recontract again from the date of plan change.

  • +1

ALDI mobile for the win, especially for the cheaper plans :)

    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/newplans

    • +1

Was just going to post that in this thread. I think I'm going to switch to it now especially since it gives me 50% more data on the $20 plan and also has no lock in.
