    • I think we had this discussion last time this offer came up. The ethanol blend is V-Power Racing, this is not the one with Ethanol.

    • +5

      No Ethanol . FAIL

      • lol

    • +1

The only fail here is we should be drinking ethanol and not wasting it on our cars :-)

    • +1

      jasonc. fail.

      • People who say FAIL all the time.

… damn, I want to say it now.

      • +2

/me keep failing to find a chance to say fail. Epic fail.

        lol!

  • +1

looks like they got enough suckers last time to make it worth there while to run it again…

they would be loving this, means they can put the price of there fuel up, and still make a killing due to the illusion of a bargain with the coupon!

    • Wasn't really a case of that, I used the 10c plus a 4c coles voucher and it made Vpower the same price as regular unleaded. Ended up being about 130, you're not going to get it that cheap on Tuesdays.

      • +1

… unless you used your 4c voucher on a Tuesday! :P

      • Actually it was 1.46 last time as opposed to 1.32. So they are getting you. Using the 10c +4c +2c is 1.30 but if you did it yesterday(when I did it) mine was 1.32 for 98. Then -4c and -2c and so it was 1.26 a litre.

  • +1

In fairness on the last promo, it was cheaper to use the 10cents discount versus the cheap tuesday by 2 cents. You can also use together with the discount voucher from coles.

    • only at some locations….other locations it was similar or worse!
besides even with the 10cents off per litre it only works out to be about a 5-7% discount depending on the price of the fuel…

      5 bux savings in a 50 litre tank…
other bargains couldn't get away with being that small!

but not neg worthy as its still cheaper…

      • +6

Difference is, everybody needs/purchases petrol. Not everybody needs a new computer/printer whatever =P

        • Also everybody knows fuel isn't like clothing in Myer, where it's made in China for $5 per garment and sold for $90. 50% off the marked price is very possible there, but the margins on fuel are extremely thin.

    • +1

advertised price last time was 8c dearer on the Sunday, to the following Tuesday / Wednesday. so you're really only talking 2c. Divide that by the $1.35 price you'll pay and you get nearly 1.5% saving. hmm average even for a necessity.

  • Sounds good 2 me! Sunday fill ups mean I miss the crowds, and my car runs heaps better on premium fuel. I find I get more kms out of the tank too, so adds 2 the savings.

  • Fuel will be more expensive coming up to Anzac Day long weekend. So you may be better off filling up on Sunday with this voucher.

    • Fuel is always more expensive on weekends than mid week. The local tabloid media likes to play up the fuel price hikes and 'petrol rip offs' while hoping their readers have a very short memory.

  • THIS IS A BAD DEAL. I did this last time and even though the voucher said I could use my 4c shopping docket +2c(if I purchased $2 or more worth of goods) the guy didn't want to give it to me.

On Sunday the prices go up to 1.46 for V 98. Yesterday in Sydney it was 1.32. So you think you are getting a bargain but you aren't.

I say, fill up today or before the price goes up. If you have to travel lots and you are low on Sunday then do it but only if you have to. Printing out a page and driving to a Shell on Sunday for trick advertising is silly.

  • +1

Anyone know the locations of v-power fuel stations in Perth?

  • I said it before, and its the same here. If you live in a city you're better off filling up on Tues/Wed discount cycle. This is just a ploy to confuse the buyer.

  • FYI, today my local coles express sell vpower at 136.9C/litre. So basicly it is even if you fill you car today. Anyway I will need this voucher to fill my wife's car on Sunday, because she need to fill twice a week.

I'm going to post what I posted last time. It's long, but if anyone can be bothered to read it then here it is for you… or just read the conclusion.

All you people who don’t see the good side of this deal really need to think with an open mind.

Consider that, not everyone has petrol prices on Sunday which are 20 cents per litre higher than the price on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I came here on Sunday to post that the price of Unleaded was 129.9c at my local Shell. I was supposed to use this V-Power voucher, but I just simplify forgot. I intended to use this voucher because I didn’t believe the price on Wednesday would be less than 119.9c (10c difference) for Unleaded. Why am I quoting Unleaded prices and not V-Power? Because V-Power is always the price of Unleaded +14c at my Shell, so it doesn’t matter which one I use because it’ll end up being the same for comparisons, and Unleaded is the price displayed on the street so it’s easier to quote that price.

Today, Wednesday, the price was 122.9c/L for Unleaded, which is only 7c less than the price it was on Sunday. That means for me, the deal would have worked very well. Yes, you may say 3c/L is not much and the truth is it isn’t much, but all I’m saying is that this proves that this deal is NOT A BAD DEAL at all. Personally, most of the Shells around my area (not just my local one) don’t seem to have prices fluctuating 15c from Sunday to Wednesday. Maybe between Thursday/Friday of the previous week to the Wednesday/Thursday morning of the following week it would ALMOST fluctuate 15c, but that is 15c/L at MAX. This price fluctuation of 7c/L between Sunday and Wednesday is quite standard. They did NOT jack up the prices for petrol on Sunday to accommodate for any potential losses by people using this voucher.

Not to mention, if I went on Sunday, I would probably not have had to line-up for petrol as long. I believe this would apply for most people, seeing as most people are well aware that Tuesday-Thursdays are the cheapest days, and those who pump on Sunday mostly do it out of necessity. Wednesday petrol lines always seem to be long until after 10:30pm. Not too sure about Sundays.

In conclusion, this was definitely not a bad deal. If it wasn’t good for you, tough luck. Just realise that not everyone lives where YOU live. Realise that not everyone can wait until Wednesday to pump. If you could vote things negative just for these reasons, then I guess we can negative all those deals for those cheap hard drives in Perth (forgot what store it was but they seem to pop up periodically). They aren’t bad deals, but they don’t work for many of us because many of us don’t live in Perth and have to pay expensive delivery. Does not make it a bad deal.

Just like to point out, the sunday this offer came out the price of petrol was 135.9

The following sunday, the petrol at the same coles express was 123.9 (no joke), and the same the following weekends…

IF by chance they have the same price, ill change my neg :D

Hence, why I neg this deal once again…

  • sunday is always expensive to fill up. last 10c deal make people end up more expensive. so this will be the same again.

  • -3

Here we go again. Neg for the same reasons as before.

  • +2

It would be a bargain if it's valid for 7 days.

  • +1

Buyer/bargainer beware, last time I had this offer, I barely saved anything compared to Tuesday at my local Shell/Coles Express. Going from previous experience, it wasn't much of a saving due to the massive hike in price on Sunday.

Of course your outlet/servo/mileage will vary (always wanted to say YMMV).

  • +1

hmm… my 1st negative vote on this site!

1 week before anzac long weekend … they offer this 1-2c bargain…
this would mean that if someone usually fills the car every week, he/she would need to fill their tanks again the following weekend, which is anzac long weekend, and knowing that the prices go thru the roof for long weekends… HA!

good luck to those who take up this offer.

  • the 10c saving is genuine, sure the prices rise are more expensive on a Sunday compared to a Wednesday. But isn't every other service station charging you the Sunday premium? (which in reality is a lot better than the Thurs/Fri premium!)

It's a genuine saving, sure, it may not be much - but those neg-ing this deal is a bit rough. Tell me how much Vortex 98 is this coming Sunday

    • If you read my post you'll understand. The week after this promotion it was 123.9 on the Sunday. It was 135 when this promotion ran,…

      Right now its 121

      • Are you talking about V-power or Unleaded? $1.23 for V-power sounds cheap, maybe it's because I'm from a regional area.

If the price of Vpower is equivalent to the price of Unleaded coupled with the discounts on Sunday, it's still a better deal in a sense because you're getting a higher octane fuel.

        • Sorry man, I am just talking about Unleaded prices. I think V power adds + 14 cents to unleaded, and thats the value I can see without going in and checking the pumps at most stations. But its all relitive =]

Most people dont need higher octane fuel anyway, only high performance vehicles.

          • @massari: I've found that this isn't always the case. As a regular V-Power user, I've seen it can sometimes vary more than 14 cents.

EDIT: For my local station anyway.

      • Yeah I'm with you. I skipped the last deal because I had a suspicion prices would just conveniently be higher on the sale day and it looks as though I was right. I see no reason to not believe it won't occur again. 10c discount isn't much good if it's artificially higher to begin with.

        EDIT:

I originally was going to neg this deal as I'm against Shell's artificial discount practices but decided not to as it's not the OP's fault who went out of his way to share this deal to the community.

        • I originally was going to neg this deal as I’m against Shell’s artificial discount practices but decided not to as it’s not the OP’s fault who went out of his way to share this deal to the community.

I think your missing the point of this site… the site is to rate deals people post… good or bad… if that were the case, no one would ever get negs!

          • +1

@wisc: I don't think it's that cut and dry. I neg a deal if it's clear to me that it's not a deal. However if some people might benefit from it, I give the deal the benefit of the doubt. It is possible that this might be a savings for some country people where the price is always high and you want this grade of petrol.

However I'm suspicious of Sunday prices. All the same, I'll keep a voucher handy in case I see a servo with low prices this Sunday, which I very much doubt. (I print my vouchers on used paper anyway, so it only costs me a cent or two of toner cost.)

            • @retiredfeline: Not enough people seem to understand this.. but this is exactly my point.

This is NOT a bad 'deal'. It may not be great but it certainly isn't bad and hence should not be neg-ed. I've yet to see a valid reason for this to be neg-ed.

      • I don't think that's a fair comparison. It could just be possible that the price of petrol had actually gone up within the week. What's that thing they always announce of the news? Prices of gold/petrol/oil per gallon or something.

You should be comparing, the Sunday prices to the Thursday prices afterwards. As I said, some people have been complaining about having some 20c difference between Sunday and Thursday (never seems to be more than 10c/L between Sunday/Thursday for me). If the price on the Thursday was lower than 125, then you could say that the deal was not worth it.

Just remember that, just because this deal doesn't work for you and your local Coles Express/Shell, does not mean it does not work for others. There are hundreds of Shells all over the country and obviously not everyone is being screwed over by their local Shell jacking up the prices for the promotion.

As I also mentioned before, less people tend to pump on Sunday so you also don't have to wait as long for your turn to fill up.

  • +1

Quite simply, this is a good deal for those people who NORMALLY fill up with PULP on a Sunday (a very small population). It's not so good for the "bargain hunters" who go out of their way to take advantage of this coupon, just for the sake of it.

    • yes, thats it

  • -2

this one again, not worth it

  • know #98 is better than #91 (at least on price). but if I mix current #91 in tank with #98, is that getting some better or even worse for the car engine?

    • neither. if your engine doesnt need 98 then dont get it, there is no point. only cars tuned for higher 95 or 98 fuels need to get those fuels.

      • not sure about shell (think it does) but the hirer RON fuels also contain scrubbers to keep your engine tidy.

eg i only run 98 on my bike, when i pulled my float bowls apart after 80,000KM they where much cleaner than another bike i was changing parts with that had only done 16,000KM…

so also good to run a few tanks though every now and then to keep your engine clean..

(its why they say improvements with continual use, its not cause the fuel makes your car magically better if its not tuned for it, its cause it cleans your injectors and motor to make it more efficient, eg it wont matter what you use on a brand new car tuned for 91.)

Today the cheapest I could find was 136. Once again, rip!

Coles express was 120 on thursday.. So over a 16 cents markup.. sigh

  • Went to use it today. Unleaded was 120.7. I doubt that Unleaded will be lower than 110.7 on Wed/Thurs, and there was pretty much no queue.. so I'm satisfied!
