Next question from EC would be, what is usual price in aud

  • +16

Went to purchase it only to find I already own it, I really need to keep better track of my purchased apps.

    • +5

I'm sure there's a 20c app which can do that for you. 8-)

      • my paid apps

        its free!

    • It was on here for about a buck around christmas time if I remember correctly

  • Can I use it as a handwriting pad for PC?

  • +1

Only real use I've had so far is controlling a PC connected to outdoor speakers. I have a HTPC but an integrated keyboard/trackboard is fine there.

What else are people using this for?

    • +2

I was looking at VLC remote apps just recently so this app seems quite useful to me. I occasionally hook my laptop up to the TV or watch stuff on my monitor from my bed. This app just enables my laziness and lets me control Netflix / VLC / browse my PC for shows to watch using my phone.

Just had a play with it just then, the basic VLC remote won't let you skip through a video which is annoying. Still have to set up a http server with VLC to do that. Also looks like you can't launch Netflix straight from the remote which is another bummer. Still learning how to use the app though so I may be wrong.

      • basic vlc remote is great, 10s skip available.
advanced vlc remote is a hassle, as you say.

        • 10s is not enough for me unfortunately :( I watch a lot of anime and I skip the OP most of the time which can be 1:30-2mins. I also tend to skip all recap intros.

        • @itzinfinite:

roger that, 12 button presses would annoy anyone.
fast forward button also.. now i'm looking at the remote.

      • Chromecast

        • I have a Chromecast in the lounge for Netflix / Youtube streaming but I still use my laptop when I want to watch local content (through an external HDD).

        • @itzinfinite:

Why wouldn't you use a Chromecast to also cast the local content from your laptop instead of hooking your laptop up to the TV or when watching stuff on your monitor?

That to me is way more convenient than using an app like this. Unless I'm missing something :S

edit: I get it for a desktop, but for a laptop I don't…

        • @jamestownfx:

I think because my content is usually a file type chromecast does not support, I cannot get audio passed through (I'll check what audio format my files are in). As a lot of my shows are soft subs it also misses that last time I tried. I honestly didn't look to hard into that because audio was not supported so there was no point anyway).

EDIT: Checking now though… There's this plugin called Videostream which I'll try tonight… Hopefully that works.

        • @itzinfinite:

Alternatively, Chromecast can just cast any window from your laptop/or even cast the screen? (Using the Chromecast extension?)

    • I just use it to control my pc (which is hooked up to my TV) from bed. More convenient than a keyboard!

    • I use it to control my PC, watching VLC/Netflix while I'm in bed lol

  • Anyone with an android phone and a pc needs this app

    • +18

I have numerous Android phones and numerous PCs.

Yet I have absolutely ZERO need for this App.

I use a keyboard and mouse to control my PCs.

Oddly, I use my Android phones for making telephone calls.

      • +2

What is this keyboard and mouse you speak of?

      • +1

Ditto. I'm not finding any uses either.

        • Use it to confuse people while they use the PC.

      • You heathen!

      • +2

I sometimes use this app to turn on my PC when I'm not sitting in front of it (it uses Wake on Lan from your phone via Wifi) and/or to put my PC to sleep from across the room or when laying in bed (you can also remotely control playing audio).

The remote keyboard and mouse functions work but would require an uncommon/specific circumstance for you to want to use it (eg. remotely controlling a laptop connected to a projector or TV).

        Nevertheless, it's nice to have.

  • another 20c app for me, need more surveys for google opinions!

    • +3

I did the delete cache and files, uninstall, reinstall and got about $1.50 worth of surveys in the next couple of days, after having no surveys for several months.

      • will give it a shot! but i have a new phone so not sure if it will help.

    • January was a good month for surveys, got $8 in surveys, then got $6 in February. Slowed down in March worth only $4, and about $2 so far this month.

      • that's heaps better than me, i have <$6 since july last year XD

my location and data is mostly off though.

        • Yeah, you really need to have location on to get more surveys, I've gotten about $35 since July last year.

Just need to be comfortable knowing that Google knows where you go - think Google even knows when I'm taking a dump.

Looks like ozbargain has been down for two hours due to a server migration.

Yeah it was bad… I was shaking like a gypsy with a home loan :(

I believe the original quote is "sweating like a gypsy with a mortgage"

        Close enough though :P

@JetBombat: here you go! around the 1 minute mark but worth watching the whole thing.

to be fair I'm not sure if it's original but a lot of the expressions he comes out with are his dad's, apparently. haven't heard that expression anywhere else before though

Paid $1.39 :-( in Telstra credit :-) back in Nov 2015 on this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221065 and neglected to use it due to forgetful/laziness and having many other control alternatives/devices so good reminder to try it.

    • lol, saw this and thought I should download, went to the store and it was already installed :P

Lyl has been on a roll!!!

    Nice work buddy!

  • grabbed this last time it was on sale for 20c.
still haven't worked out how it can be useful for me yet.

  • Damn, paid full price a few days ago.

    Great app.

  • been waiting to see a deal for this, been using the free version for a while, but don't use it often enough to upgrade to full version as there are only a couple of extra remotes i'd use

  • This can use as a remote handwriting keyboard nice …

  • Useful for those of us with Android Wear.

    • I had a quick read of what it can do with Android Wear but didn't see much use. What do you use it for?

  • Thank you OP

  • 3.20 now

  • +1

Just adding my 2c, I bought this app a long time ago, and its still so very useful to this day.

Using it as a mouse can be a bit tedious, but does the trick.

Where it really does shine is Youtube playback and VLC control. Also useful for controlling the PC volume too. If you dig a bit deeper, not bad for file browsing too if you want to fire up new video or something, no need to navigate on the tv screen through your folders etc.

For 20c, its a no brainer, get it guys!
