I have to been to the Hamad airport in Doha several times and can't complain, it is a good one. They also offer free tours of museums in Doha if the stopover hours are suitable.
Regarding the penalties for crimes, how many international travellers have you heard being lashed, jailed or executed in Qatar?

They have a really great economy product on the A350s, probably my favourite, even better than anything from SQ and the other gulf carriers.
I've never been on the A350 but have flown with Qatar on their A320 and B777. They put their entertainment system box under the seat in front, meaning you can't really stretch your legs out at all in economy on some of the seats. And they take about 1 hour to clear food trays. Not sure how they managed to win Skytrax #1 airline, but then again, I had the same thoughts about how the won (paid for) their World Cup bid…

So clever. How about like any other decent airline, and not directly where feet go. Here is Qatar's crap solution I encountered on their 777: http://bit.ly/1T3fNcd; the A320 had the entertainment box perpendicular to the seat taking up even more leg room!
I suspect this sale is being driven by the fact that Qatars bookings for its new Adelaide service are below expectations. Although I know Emirates daily ADL service does EXTREMELY well, they are a much better known airline than Qatar and I think the people of Adelaide are hesitant to fly with an airline they know nothing about. I thought Etihad would start ADL services well before Qatar did.

Ok, total n00b question here, but, when booking via one of these "intermediary" travel agents (bestjet.com in this case), it doesn't look like there's any ability to select seats prior to ticket purchase. As I'd be travelling with two young children, seat selection is very important to me. Does anyone know if once your eticket is allocated you can then select seats via the Qatar site?
Have travelled Qatar before, booked though FlightCentre and was able to log on to Qatar website and look at available seats, from memory needed a certain booking refernece no. to log in. Once travel agent provided me with it I could look at and book seats. It wasnt much use to me as I needed a bassinet seat which you can only request and hope they provide you with one at check-in. If you don't need exit row or bassinet seat then you should be able to select seats you want but make sure you do this as early as possible
