I bought this torch a couple of years ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159102 and it's still going strong now.

    • As did I

It's only problem is that it chews through the battery within a month of being on standby

I don't use this every day, only when camping, fishing or looking for lost chickens in the backyard, and almost always I have to swap batteries

El cheapo Chinese sourced equivalents seem not to last / conversely they don't eat the battery when not used

      • +5

Really how bad? my one seems okay i don't use it much but it usually has power even after months of none use. like 3 months…

Maybe just unscrew the tail cap a bit but leave it attached that will stop the drain from the LED switch…

what cells are you using in the light?

        • +1

          varta's mainly
eneloops, but at 1.2v they are not so snazzy or bright
          Good Idea :)

        • @v3l0city: yea i put high drain eneloop pros in mine… but right now i have the ikea cells they seem okay i have had them in their since i went fishing at Christmas i think. Just checked now it blinked 3 times so they are full i think but i did leave soshines cells inside and they self drained even though they are LSD….

I hate electronic switches they are always problematic my one now flashes for some reason in different colours… I just realised now that their will be some drain because their is no manual lock out…

      • I use eneloops and they have lasted a really long time. If it's off it should be an open circuit and no drain.

        • I use eneloops and they have lasted a really long time. If it's off it should be an open circuit and no drain.

What is an open circuit with an electronic switch? This is an electronic switch that requires power to operate, there is no open circuit when off even in lockout mode as it will always use power. Reading the sheet that comes with the torch explains how this works and also other useful features you will be missing out on like different outputs.

        • @Maverick-au:

You are right. I just read a review on candlepower forums…

"Having turned the EA41 on and off again, the parasitic drain current drops significantly to 106.7uA. At this drain, the same cells would take over 2 years to be depleted. Much better! This is the same current present in lockout mode, so you don’t get a lower drain in lockout mode, just protection against accidental activation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember to switch the EA41 on and off after inserting fresh cells or the parasitic drain will be much higher."

You could RTFM which tells you how to put it different modes and how long the battery will last in these modes.

        Standby Mode
With the light on, press and hold the on/off switch for more than one
second to turn off the light and activate location beacon function. The
blue power indicator will flash once every three seconds to indicate the
location of the EA41. In this mode, the EA41 can keep running on 4 × AA
        batteries for 120 days.

        Lockout/Unlock
With the light turned on, press and hold dual switches for more than one
second until the flashlight is switched off and enters into lockout mode. In
this mode, the EA41 can continue working on one set of batteries for over
        12 months.
Lockout mode prevents accidental activation of the flashlight. To exit
lockout mode, simply press and hold dual switches for more than one
        second again.

For reference here is the sheet that came with the torch - http://www.brightguy.com/images/documents/SYSEA4115/nitecore…

        • Yh if you leave your torch flashing on standby mode it wont last long lol.

  • +1

To bad it does not have the light focus feature otherwise it would have been an insta buy from me.

    • you don't need it…its got a beam of both throw and focus you loose to much power with a focusing feature you should be good to get 350m out of this torch

    • Zoomies lose so much output, whereas multi-output lights like this are far more versatile. However, this light will absolutely smash your eneloops. You would be better off spending the $60ish on an 18650 setup IMO

      Edit: what u/fchis said.

  • Great find! Been scouting on the price for this torch. Thx

I would love to buy this torch, I have an EA4 from a previous Ozbargain Deal.

However, there was a severe button degradation issue with the EA4….and NiteCore's response to that issue has been less than satisfactory.

    What a shame…great torch otherwise.

Anyone had the Rubber Button Ballooning issue??

    • Yeah same

    • However, there was a severe button degradation issue with the EA4….and NiteCore's response to that issue has been less than satisfactory.

Nitecore make good torches, they have fixed the problem in future models but I agree and was also annoyed at the time but I've moved on.

Anyone had the Rubber Button Ballooning issue??

Yes all three of mine have this issue (or was it two of the three?) but I have newer models now and those torches are in a box somewhere.

sounds like the banned Gearbest trolls are here

        • -1

They ban Gearbest but Banggood and others stay on. What a farce…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: that's because Banggood are reliable and Gearbest don't deliver. It took me 2 months to get a PayPal refund.

        • @mrjizzler:

          +1

Gearbest did not deliver in 3 months and keep telling me to check with post office, idiots.
And did not want to refund

        • @mrjizzler:

Banggood are hardly reliable. Cheap yes, reliable not so much.

I have ordered many times from Gearbest without issue. It seems to me Ozbargain favour some sellers over others, and some "squeaky wheel" users complaining about issues get more oil than others.

I am sure Gearbest isn't always perfect, but few sellers are…

Have you ever tried getting a refund from Banggood?
Blood from a stone is easier to extract…

Banggood often sell fake copies of branded products and state they are genuine.
For example "Cree" LED flashlights that have LEDs that are not Cree.
When you report it to them they deny, or just don't answer.
Even when you raise a PayPal dispute you don't always win….

Another example is the fake Nitecore battery chargers they sell which are cheap knockoffs of the genuine thing…

        • sounds like the banned Gearbest trolls are here

I order heaps from GearBest and have never had a problem.

Banggood on the other hand can be difficult to get refunds at time and I've had to lodge disputes with PayPal to resolve them.

Another happy Convoy S2+ user. I have one permanently strapped to my bike. After 2000+km on the bike, it's still going strong.

    • I have just had a very bad experience dealing with Gearbest over my order. There was a slight technical issue with the order and upon dealing with the support, I came away dumb founded and will never shop with them again. It is a few dollars cheaper than other sellers but I will shop somewhere next time and never again with them.

        Hi donkeykong,
We are sorry to hear that. If any problems, please feel free to PM us with your order number.
We will try our best to assist you. Thanks for your understanding.

The EA41 addresses the previous model switch issue.

    • yes the 2015 EA41 does…

      • yes the 2015 EA41 does…

        ? The 2014 EA41 ALSO has a new switch.

        • my one plays up and that is the 2014 version…960 lumen model… it has its moments lol

  • Bought this flashlight around 12 months ago and it's been excellent. Solid construction, lightweight, great throw and it fits inside your pocket easily. I paid close to $100 from the Nitecore ebay store and I've been extremely happy with it. It's a steal at $64.

  • It's nice, but I take my tn12 over it every time.

    • Im interested to know what a more affordable chinese equivelent would be, with decent light output and taking AA's.

Check the video. Again, best value for money is the convoy s2+

        • +4

Sure looks decent, but takes 18650 batteries, and it's the eneloops that would be ideal to use.

        • @fchis: Nope, that does not work. I bought the convoy S2+ based on the comments in this thread. I also bought the adapter you linked to and… they do not work together.
You can't physically fit 2 AAA batteries inside the S2, let alone 3. It is just not wide enough.
On the upside, I have to say that it seems very well made. I am impressed with the build quality. Now I need a deal on 18650 batteries and a good charger.

    • completely different lights! this one throws an amazing beam! out shoot my convoy C8

  • Thanks OP purchased 1

  • +2

Bought this to accessorise with the cheap leatherman I got from here I never use. Maybe I should become more outdoorsy, or tactical

  • I've got the Nitecore EA41 and Sunwayman D40A. I find the Sunwayman has better build quality, throw and I prefer the mode switch on it.

    http://www.amazon.com/Sunwayman-XM-L2-D40A-Lumens-Flashlight…

Great price on the Nitecore though but if they were the same price, I would go the Sunwayman for a AA flashlight.

  • +1
  • how EA41 would be if compared with Fenix TK41 ?

  • This isn't really a bargain, it's always around this price from FastTech using the pricecontrol coupon which has been going for years. Currently USD$44.73 delivered…

  • This thing gets extremely hot on full power.

    • Mine gets warm like any flashlight when used for extended periods but I wouldn't say it gets extremely hot.

  • great torch, thing chews through batteries though. Even when off you need to leave the tailcap unscrewed

    • +1

Or your could RTFM which tells you how to prevent power drain!

  • For me, the linked seller does not appear to Ship to Oz.
