Interesting method: discriminate and alienate the very demographic who's attitudes they're trying to change… hmmm?

  • +4

In the original American version, it also counted heritage, if applied to Australia then Aboriginal Females would get unlimited free cookies.

    Had a re read of the post;

So if I identify as a women i get discount?

  • +13

You all know that there is no such this as a Gender Pay Gap right?

Equal hours in equal job with equal experience gets equal pay If it did't major employers would all be looking to hire all women (i.e. cheaper labour)

There's a few more factors involved, regrettably, not all of which are fair. But I agree with your thinking in general.
Personally I think women deserve extra pay, for having increased sensibility and smaller ego's :)
I think these type of "protests" do not achieve anything positive, however.

Did you read the comment below you? About a young man who was discriminated

        • I am not sure what the comment below has to do with it, apart from being a different case of gender discrimination.
Obviously my comment about women deserving more pay was tongue-in-cheek, and has nothing to do with it.

The problem with @ozdavo's statement is that some people do not think that 10 years of experience for one gender is equally valuable as 10 years of experience in the other gender. That is the root for gender discrimination (and something I personally actively oppose, whichever way the discrimination goes)

        What rubbish.

We live on average FIVE years less than a women. Just think about that for a minute. How much would you pay for an extra 6% life? $100,000? $1,000,000?

We have to work for a greater percentage of our lives and have less time to enjoy retirement. If anything having a dick and balls should mean a lower retirement age and a slightly higher wage to make up for the reduced working life. That would be fair and breeding doesn't come into it because that's a choice and so is who raises the child.

Sure there is a gender pay gap but it's mostly because women simply don't earn the same qualifications and don't do the same work. They make poor choices. Also regarding the lower end of the scale anyone who says a low level labourer should be paid as much as a low level office worker is an idiot who needs to do a few days work in the middle of summer before coming back and apologising for being so incredibly naive.

My final thoughts on this subject is always the same. Women born in the same year as me are more than welcome to come and see me when we're 85 and lecture my rotting corpse about how terribly unfair life is for them. I promise I won't interrupt.

btw. Just say "I identify as female" as that's perfectly acceptable to these idiots.

I am a young man who has been discriminated against when i applied for the job of Wet Nurse recently

  • -4

This is making a very valid point. Fortunately for me I work in a male dominated profession, so I get paid above premium. If you look at the female dominated work areas they are paid below premium. In 1954, when my mother got married, she had to give her job up in the public service because married women weren't allowed to continue working there; this is still reverberating because these women were also denied Superannuation so they had to depend on the pension as they got older. I realise this was posted so you could make a comment about how "discriminated" against men are but, frankly, I'm tired of the mansplaning so whatever.

    • +4

Did super for APS employee even exist in 1954? I don't think it did. The Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation opened to members in 1976 and national compulsory super didn't start until 1992.

      • +2

        Don't feed the troll.

  • +5

    cringe

  • +6

I'll be putting some cyanide into the cakes, to address the gender life-expectancy gap.

  • +1

Women get paid the same at my job. But I guess we're a team not a group of individuals stabbing each other in the back,

  • +2

Great bargain!Looking forward to the Menist Week.

    • How about a minority week?

      • Yes, baking every week! Obesity wins

  • +2

    Men can bake too

    • But men have to pay more for the baking. It's only fair.

    • There's a famous quote which is roughly "women can do anything as well as men, except cooking and sewing".

  • +12
    • +1

& I have nothing against equal pay.

    • Comment of the week!

  • +2

Last I checked (which is only a month or so ago), women that do the same job as me get the same pay as me (wonder how these retards would handle being told that!).

    • +1

Do "retards" who "do the same job as you" get the same pay too?

    • How do you know that? It's a genuine question.

I have seen pay records for many engineers and I never saw an obvious gender difference, except one woman who was paid about 20% above the band she was in. I hired her (internal transfer) anyway because she was the best at her job that I found.

I agree this business of pay gap is largely statistics (lies, damn lies and statistics) and it gets very tiring hearing this shit constantly from ill informed (or manipulative?) feminists.

      • Award wages (which would apply to the vast majority of employees), it is in black and white how much people in my job get paid.

  • +3

I'll bake my own treats thanks ladies.

  • +1

I've never seen an award that lists gender with different pay rates?

  • +1

The only industry that still has differential pay rates for men and women is the porn industry. And guess who is paid more?

  • +3

I also got to say how that in a world still with so many unfair things for women (mainly in poor countries), why the (profanity) are these clowns chest pounding over something that is not even a (profanity) problem anymore?!

    • +2

Because they want more pay then men, not equality

      • Yep and they should be locked up for life for it.

    • +5

Its not important if you were born a victim, but whether you self-identify as a victim.

      • +7

came for free shit, stayed for the philosophy

  • +3

Stuff like this sets a precedent for people to advertise their bake sales on ozbargain…

    • +1

The local schooll down the road from me is having a lamington drive next week

Ill tell them instead of putting it in their newsletter and on the noticeboard, they should spam nationwide on ozbargain.

Perhaps they will catch some thrifty folk who frequent ozbargain who live thousands of KM away but may be passing through and feel like a sugary treat

      • What this sugary treat you talk about haha

  • +5

Yes let's all protest sexism by being sexist… Genius!

    • +3

This is the reason you should always tell kids that 2 wrongs do not make a right.

  • +2

Jobless people make 100% less than the average man or woman. Should they all get these for free?

  • +3

Sexism and discrimination don't belong in Ozbargain

  • +1

I'm with Snoo. This is a targeted offer. Would this violate anti-discrimination legislation? I suppose they're not preventing those who 'identify as a male' from purchasing the goods.

  • +2

Definitely a targetted offer, and the whole justification is debateable at best

  • +3

Mod is asleep or a Radfem.

    • Maybe you are right - just coz the mods have a male sounding user name, doesnt mean they dont have breasts

      • +1

        males can be radfems too.

  • How much for the gender gap muffin?

  • -2

it was homophobes earlier this week, mysognists today, maybe next week's theme is… Islamophobes?

never a dull moment on ozbargain, you can guarantee that. who needs 4chan?

    • +3

Anti Bullshit is not the same as misogynist!

      • what do you have against bullshit?

        it's organic

        • +1

Claiming that something is good because it is organic is an appeal to nature fallacy.
Faecal matter might be good for growing some types of plants but it also contains bacteria that is highly harmful for humans.

        • -6

@Namesareapain: whoa guys, a badass fallacy expert! thanks for the mansplain. true to form.

        • @tdw: Childish attacks (including sexist words) will get you nowhere.

        • +2

          @tdw:

Thanks for the tumblrina-esque emotive reasoning and lexicon…any shred of credibility evaporated when "mansplaining" happened.

        • @Namesareapain: but it'll get you to reply back to me ;)

        • -1

@Sir Casm: admit it. you just wanted to use tumblrina in a sentence lol.

  • so how much is the discount?
If I say I'm Brucena Jenner or whatever her/his/etc name is, do I get it?

    • Yep otherwise you could go to the news and play discrimination card

  • +2

Political statement should be kept off of here. As this bargain is not available to all I'm downvoting it.

  • +1

Interesting method: alienate and discriminate against the very demographic who's opinion you're trying to change… hmmm

  • Hang on… what exactly makes this a deal?

This is discrimination at its peak!
