[iOS] Acidik - Wearable Audio Visualizer. Free Download + Inapp 50% off (Was $2.99 Now $1.49)

40

Keen to show you all my first iOS app. Acidik is an Audio Visualizer app with a difference, you can actually "see" the visualization even with your eyes closed.

I'm hoping for some feedback from you guys so please give it a try for free even if you don't intend to use it long term.

The app is designed to be "wearable" and requires no VR goggles but works best with headphones. You select your own music (or mic input), lay on your back in a very dark room and balance your iPhone or iPod across your eyes. The pulsing coloured lights from the screen will shine through your eyelids to the beat of your music, the effect is damn cool if I do say so myself and can be used for meditation or just zoning out to some tunes. You can also open your eyes for a totally different effect although this does tend to be less relaxing in my experience, try it for yourself and let me know what you prefer.

Acidik is currently free to download. It is ad supported (after every few songs an ad will show) however these can be disabled via in-app purchase which is currently 50% off at $1.49 until 4th April (usually $2.99).

Give it a try tonight when it gets dark, throw some nice beats at it and see what you think.

Check out the video below for an idea of what to expect, however you really do need to try it yourself, in the dark, for the full experience.

sounds daft…done any research into long term negative effects of placing your phone for extended periods in such close proximity to your eyes and brain?

    • It does sound odd… until you try it. :)

Your concerns are valid though, in the same way that people have concerns with radiation from a mobile phone whilst using next to your ear, there is of course much debate over this topic and many studies. Keep in mind that the phone is not in transmit mode whilst using the app (aside from cell tower contact). You could switch off your cell radio if really concerned though (or use the app on an iPod touch).

With regards to use in front of the eyes, this is not too dissimilar from any VR goggles. Yes eye strain can be an issue over time with eyes open as is the case with any VR Goggles, the app does include directions to limit use to short sessions and discontinue use or take a rest if you feel uncomfortable. In general, using the app with your eyes closed is a more comfortable method and very immersive. I personally find around 15 minutes is good for me, but others may prefer a longer or shorter session.

Would love you to try it out and to chat more, I'm happy to take both negative and positive comments. The app is not for everyone, just like you have some people that love VR and others that can't stand it. For the record though, this is not VR… but it is immersive.

One tip, use it in a dark room but make sure not to have any other lights in the room that creep into your peripheral vision (light under the door etc). This can affect the experience if using with your eyes open, doesn't matter too much with eyes closed though.

Edit: Why is there a gif of a wifi card in my comment? Embedded ad or something??
Edit 2: Now its some other Rihanna gif…. what?

Ha… well, better than the "piece of shit" gif you posted first. :)

Edit: Are all these gifs being added automatically for April fools or something? Getting one in my post too but they keep changing.

  • Anyone given it a go tonight yet? Any feedback?
