Small guy trying to find a shirt that fits

Trying to find dress shirts that fits my small asian frame is really hard.

Here's a picture of me trying on the slimmest smallest TM Lewin Shirt:

http://puu.sh/nWsSF/1be6d9e263.png

I find that Uniqlo is less baggy than TM Lewin but still baggy-ish.

Are there any brands that would cater towards those that are around 165cm tall? Can't afford tailored shirts though :/

EDIT:
WOW thank you to everybody who replied! Didn't expect a response as huge as this :D

Here are the quick compilation of tips/brands for those who may be reading this in the future:
1. Get big. Use Saitama's training regime: 100 Push-Ups. 100 Sit-Ups. 100 Squats. 10KM Running. Repeat 7 days a week.
2. Shrink them.
3, Brands include: tarocash/yd/connor (these fit amazing for me but quality is ehhhhhh), g2000+uniqlo hk (this seem's very very promising), jack london tailor fit XS, politix (so expensiveee), gloweave, bossini, kenji, saba and zara.

Gloweave Slim fit are slimmer than brooksfield, they're sold at Myer and DJs so you can try them there for size. My local DFO has a gloweave store but it looks like you can get them online starting at $35 a shirt.

    http://www.gloweave.com/shop/range.asp?catalogueid=31&catalo…

    • FWIW, Brooksfield is Gloweave's youth brand.

  • Bring it up in conversation with your friends + their partners. In the past I have received gifts of shirts from friends who were similar body shape or slightly fatter than me. My friends don't like to waste bad purchases or quality clothes.

The best place to buy branded name clothes that fit is asian countries. I like Singapore as OzBargain often has flight specials for Scoot, Air Asia, Jetstar, SIA, Qantas. The department stores in Singapore will have branded name stuff (eg. CK, Armani, or whatever) but in Singaporean sizes.

165cm is a little shorter than most Singaporean teens so if you are still having trouble finding sizes then I'd recommend a shopping holiday to neighboring asian countries like Indonesia or Vietnam.

If you have an "ectomorph" body type then forget about body building being the sole solution. For other body types it is already difficult to change their weight by -/+ 10%. No matter how you try its close to impossible to go from 50kg up to the 60kg-65kg required to fit Australia's Small size shirts, thats a +30% mass gain! If you cannot afford tailored shirts I can assure you that its expensive and time consuming for an ectomorph to get a +30% weight gain (eg. protein powders, vitamin supplements, annual gym membership, personal trainer, a home bench press, 6x steak/chicken meals per day, boot camp/sports, sports clothing, etc). Much of it requires compound exercises and abnormally high protein diet which requires knowledgable advice otherwise risking serious injury and long recovery periods.

      Bulk Up where :P

  • Try tarocash, YD (both online), or H&M if your near one.

  • Do some research people, frames like this are the athletic type which find it very hard to gain muscle and the diet is not just eat fatty foods but rather a proper diet which will be of a higher callorie intake then using but also gym work is needed.

Dont do drugs, drugs are bag mmm kay.

    • "frames like this are the athletic type"

no they're not. Athletic type would be small waist, broad shoulders.

  • Try tailor made shirts

I'm 1.6m in height. It's almost impossible for me to find a shirt that's good fit for me in Sydney (if not Australia), and have to resort to getting the shirt/pants being altered in most cases. I get most of my clothes from Uniqlo in HK. Any small size there fits me perfect there. Might not be the most practical option for you though. Good luck.

  • Try Hughes clothes factory at bass hill plasa if your in sydney. They have some radio ads saying they have sizes from xxxs to xxxxL
I don't know anymore than that about them

  • If you can't change you, change them. You can shrink clothes after a hot wash straight into the tumbler dryer. After few attempts, clothes should shrink 1 size.
Or you can try clothes from Bossini, their small/37" may fit your frame. Or if you can wait, as you get older your metabolism will slow down and bones will grow laterally; you will gain at least 10kg in a few years by doing nothing.

If all fails, eat Clen and Tren hard. I mean, eat clean and train hard.

  • Industrie have nice stuff in the kids department that looks like adult - and country road kids is nice too - you could probably try on the men's and kids in the same trip.

Otherwise, politix seem quite a small cut

  • Tailored shirts from overseas can be had for reasonable prices. everythingbespoke on eBay sell 3 tailored shirts for about $120. Recently ordered from them and am quite happy so far.

  • +4

How much you prepared to pay for a shirt? I know you said tailored shirts are not an option, but they can actually be pretty affordable. I've been getting mine done for about $45 a shirt. Tailor visits Australia (from HK) around once a month - you go see him and get fitted and pick the fabric you want. He then posts back to you within about 4 weeks. Only way I've been able to get decent fitting shirts.

Hey mate - I'd be interested in this - anymore details on the tailor and where in Australia he goes?

      • Yep I'm also keen to find out more details!

I have ordered a few from https://www.marcellacustom.com in the past which I have been happy with, but looks like they are not taking new orders, I think because they've been bought out.

          This is the website:

          http://www.bobbysfashions.com/index.php

His email address is [email protected]. If you email him he'll add you to his list so you get notified when he's next in town. He usually has a suite at the Intercontinental at Sydney or the Langham in Melbourne.

Been buying suits and shirts from him for years and have known many others who have used him after referrals.

Would suggest getting a couple of shirts made up initially, and once you're happy with the quality and fit you can simply place orders online.

          @takezo:

Thanks for this mate. I've looked at a few reviews on trip advisor and the reviews are mixed. I'd like a place who does suits as well but not sure I'd take the risk with this one, I know there's heaps of tailors in HK who do similiar things. It's pretty cheap though so shirts might be worth it.

        • @scepticpsych:

Yeah that's fair enough..I only initially got shirts as well.

I've had suits made up on the two occasions I've actually traveled over to HK and been able to go for multiple fittings. I don't think I would have bought just on being measured up.

In case you do end up going, I'd advise taking either taking a shirt you are happy with, or else making clear how fitted you want the shirt. Probably took me a couple of goes to finally get a fit I was completely happy with, as I think they were a bit conservative with the initial shirts (as they obviously don't want to go too tight and make them uncomfortable.)

Not sure what the reviews complained about, but in terms of quality and workmanship I've had no complaints.

        • @takezo:

          tempting……really tempting

  • I don't really have any preference for shirts.. I order them online mostly..

As for pants I buy these.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mens-Solid-Soft-Business-Capri-Pa…

I've bought 3 pairs so far. (~$25 bucks each)

These are probably made for anyone shorter than 165cm.

First pants I bought that dont need shorting.. However there is a fake handkerchief in the back pocket that needs to be removed. They are proper pockets just sewn shut.

  • I'm a similar size to you, the only retail store I've found which I find shirts that fit decently is from YD, they go down to 3XS in sizes. They can be expensive so beat to wait for a sale or go to one in a DFO.

  • Hey buddy, I'm the same size and height as you (50kg, 167cm Asian build). Finding business clothes that fit me has been the bane of my existence. I personally don't like the fit of the smallest G2000 shirts (bought some in Singapore). The biggest problem is that the arms/shoulders tend to be quite baggy because we're skinny bastards.

I've only found one, and one only brand that fits me - Jack London Tailored Fit XS.

I hope that helps, let me know how you go.

Have you tried Pumpkin Patch? Some nice stuff there for little people…

  • try beer (in moderation). sure to help.

5'5 and 55KG, the struggle is real.

i find womans shirt to fit me the best

  • Try the Brooksfield slim fits on at Myer,

Then pump the guns for extra swol factor

  • My partner is also pretty slight - under 60kg, around 165cm. He doesn't love TM Lewin. The only non-tailored shirts that fit him well are Thomas Pink Super Slim Fit (he wears a size 14.5 and they even carry a half size lower than that). It has to be Super Slim - even the Slim Fit is too loose.

The shirts are good investments but can be expensive - around AUD170 if you buy from their website. Sales are frequentish. I just bought two shirts for him with a 30% discount.

  • I have this issue with condoms

  • go to hong kong, you'll be a medium there

  • Try G-star.
Partner has the same issue and that's all he wears.
    Expensive though.

  • Probably try sites like gmarket (korean eBay) http://global.gmarket.co.kr/Home/Main
I always buy stuff there as usually clothing in Australian stores just don't fit on me that well (too short)

  • Agree with other posters; G2000 is the answer.

Get tailored shirts from an overseas tailor if you can too.

  • i've had success with Peter Jackson's Orange label- the smallest size. They are pricey though, around $90 during a Sale.
But as most of the posters mentioned, oversease is your best bet. I get my 14.5s from a local brand in the Middle East

Uniqlo have two different types of sizes. Asian size and normal size. Get the Asian sizing for a slimmer fit. Also in CBD Asian areas of there is a yd store they usually have XS-3XS for smaller Asians. Beware of their steep pricing but can get $20 work/outing shirts when on sales (at the front door rack). I never bother with euro sizing unless they have XS avaliable. Smallest sizes are still too big for me too.

  • Try European fit dress

  • Ask yourself what physique do you want to be and ensure a practice that achieves this. Message me if you want help and advice. Even simple warm up exercises can improve your health. 5km jog, 200 pushups, 100 chinups, 1000 squats, all only every 3 days. You can use both arms and legs to start off with. And your weight would be really easy to achieve, you would make 65kg in 3 months, especially if you cook yourself lots of steak.

Honestly, unless a shirt fits, don't bother buying from a shop. I strongly urge you to get tailor made because you choose the fabric quality, fabric design and colour, construction, and measurements. They last and last. There's no point paying money for a shirt that doesn't fit completely.

The outlet shops have heaps of 3XS and 3XL, and I agree with posts like YD, and Connor.

  • I'm in a similar position to yourself. I haven't been able to buy well fitting dress shirts in Australia. I've had to generally buy my shirts when I go on holidays in Singapore, Japan or Thailand. I haven't had the need to buy tailored shirts but tailored suits have been worth it for me.

Yes, there are boys sizes but the quality and style aren't generally suitable.

  • Seems like there's alot of shorter guys in this thread like myself. So I put it to you - where do you get T-shirts that have a good fit? The problem I have is not really the fit but the actual length of the T-shirt - they're made for the taller blokes, so I don't want one that goes down to my upper thighs.

TL;DR - where can I get T-shirts that are shorter in length?

  • Hubby is the same size. Topman have good sizes, kids section in Myer and DJs have decent things, industrie kids make almost exact copies of men's

  • +2

I have the exact opposite problem.

  • put it in hot wash and tumble dry a couple of times will shrink right down.

  • I dont know the shirt in the pic looks fine. You could try buying shirts meant for teenagers maybe?? eg. - https://au.billabong.com/shop/boys-shirts

  • Grow Up

  • Read The Modest Man's blog (http://www.themodestman.com/). Plenty of links and advice for men of shorter stature. Most brands are from the USA, but you'll at least find cuts properly made for shorter torsos and arm length.

Locally, I would go for Made to Measure dress shirts if you have the budget. Its worth the investment and its best done with a proper fitting. Places like Instichu, Suit Shop, etc all do measurements and fittings. Don't go with those 'measure yourself' and buy online outfits. Guaranteed it will turn out crap.

Off the rack you don't have many options here. Going to SE Asia is the best for off-the-rack. Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapoe for brands with decent slim styles and cuts. Decent options here are Uniqlo, Muji, Saba (SS size) is good locally. I've got about half dozen for sale if you are interested!

A good tailor is your best friend. Your slim build is evident in the picture. The hollow chest gives the front of shirt a very flat appearance (need a chest size down). Two darts in the back will taper in the waist a tad (don't go crazy, you'll like a girl if you over do the taper on a skinny guy with normal shoulders), shoulder roll and excessive sleeve material very evident as seen in the twist and scrunching. Length is the main issue with your pictured shirt, even for a dress shirt that you need to tuck in.

  • Also found this Whirlpool forum post that might be helpful. Someone said that Roger David have XS sizing, so that might help - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1397082

  • Try the Kenji brand from MYER, they are made for a slimmer build and often come in slim versions on top of that. They are a MYER home brand as well so they are often fairly cheap to begin with and are often on sale too. I'm sure if you look online or in one of the larger stores there might be clearance stock with a massive reduction on top, can always return if not a good fit.

The other suggestion is yd which I know carries some XS and smaller which is almost unheard of, I think a few others mentioned it too.

  • Considered getting one tailored? I had my Wedding Tux tailored from Indochino, I'm pretty sure they do shirts as well. This was 5 years back, and the service they provided was amazing.

  • buy kids clothes

  • I have a guy that comes from Hong Kong every few months, he does a lot of real estate agents and politicians in Sydney.

He measures you up, and posts the shirts. Highly recommended
if you would like more Info for his visits, shoot me your email address

    He also does suits too!
