Small guy trying to find a shirt that fits

Trying to find dress shirts that fits my small asian frame is really hard.

Here's a picture of me trying on the slimmest smallest TM Lewin Shirt:

http://puu.sh/nWsSF/1be6d9e263.png

I find that Uniqlo is less baggy than TM Lewin but still baggy-ish.

Are there any brands that would cater towards those that are around 165cm tall? Can't afford tailored shirts though :/

EDIT:
WOW thank you to everybody who replied! Didn't expect a response as huge as this :D

Here are the quick compilation of tips/brands for those who may be reading this in the future:
1. Get big. Use Saitama's training regime: 100 Push-Ups. 100 Sit-Ups. 100 Squats. 10KM Running. Repeat 7 days a week.
2. Shrink them.
3, Brands include: tarocash/yd/connor (these fit amazing for me but quality is ehhhhhh), g2000+uniqlo hk (this seem's very very promising), jack london tailor fit XS, politix (so expensiveee), gloweave, bossini, kenji, saba and zara.

    the shirt looks fine

your lipstick needs a bit of work though !!

    • +2

+1 for the lipstick comment, hahaha

      • +20

I think a bit of humour is fine here, we are talking about a shirt not an incurable illness.

      • Unfortunately I agree (About the shirt). The shirt is too big around the chest and shoulder area IMO. The arms are mostly fine. I've found Italian cut shirts such as Calibre have a slimmer fit.

    • What a pisser! Ha ha!

  • +30

Maybe try to build those guns instead of finding smaller shirts. You will thank me.

    • +1

haha only 50 kg ;P sad life

      • This is good advice too!

I'm of similar height, but I weigh 64kgs, don't have issues wearing XS from Tarocash/YD etc

They carry 2XS/3XS sizes too, maybe check them out?

        • I own several of their shirts and they fit very nicely however I need more conservative colours for work :P
Quality isn't the greatest either :/

      • -4

try mass gainers, it works well provided you push yourself hard. So I suggest get a gym buddy.

      • +2

        Seriously though, hit the gym.

You will reap so many more benefits than just not having to buy kids sizes.

      • +1

Thats okay. I am Asian, on the slim side + Broad chest + Short arms for my height, I think my neck is thicker than similarly built Asians. I will have to tailor shirts, plan to do that when I visit home sometime.

If you find a good alternative here, I can't wait to hear about it!

      • Dude I was 52kg when I started uni. Seeing all the girls there I hit the gym hard. Now Im 68kg and wearing medium in most things. Unfortunately I still have to get sleeves taken up which is a pain. Hit the gym and eat meat and rice all day and all night!

    • Completely agree with this comment but this leads to another problem of shirts fitting well everywhere but too tight on guns. I really want to try Charles Thyrwitt shirts slim fit shirts their measurement seems fine for the shoulders and chest but I am afraid that they will be too tight on the guns? Any recommendation for good dress shirts for guys with big guns?

      • +1

I find CT shirts, even the 'slim' ones are more like Euro fit rather than slim cut. Jeff Banks and Calvin Klein seems to be a much better fit. DJ's normally have the CK shirts on a good price during their major sales.

        • Thanks moo.will check them out in nextreme DJ sale.

        • +1

Costco have CK ones for $24

  • +1

Try importing some shirts from Japan like this

    ….or try the kids department

    • +1

I agree re: kids department suggestion. I myself am 1.7m, 52-54 kg, and usually I get XS (if I can find those) or S. Or kid sized T-shirts (at Paddys Haymarket) - those are a bit tight around the neck but they fit quite well otherwise (and are cheaper too!). Just my 2 cents.. :)

  • Haven't tried myself, but maybe a women's sized shirt? I know it works well for shoes, may be the same…

    • Buttons would be on the wrong side?

      • +5

Too much room in the bust too.

  • Try shops like these at Aliexpress which are quiet cheap. They have shirts with 'asian' sizing which is generally a couple of sizes smaller than european/US sizing.

  • try ctshirts.com.au

    • +1

Research tells me that their slimmest cut isn't actually that slim :/

      • I've heard that they had changed their slimmest cuts recently (past 1-2 years) to make them slimmer. Anyone have any idea how much slimmer they are? I had bought some a few years back and their slimmest cut was definitely not slim.

  • +1

Is that a super fitted TML? Also yeah CT shirts have a more generous cut, so it's not what you're looking for.

    • Yep the super fitted!

      • Yeah sorry dude I don't have much to offer as those are the slimmest fitting shirts I personally wear. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I wouldn't invest too heavily into nice shirts if I'm going to be growing out of them soon. I think what you've got on in the pic is fine…just needs some ironing (and don't slouch!) :P

        • I'm 19 turning 20. Stopped growing like a year ago :(

        • +4

          @w84am8:
dude, you may have stopped growing in height, but youre still in the optimum window frame to stack on some body mass.
if this is not an option then maybe try connor xs slim fit. they have some sensible colours and not too hard on the wallet.

        • @Hiroko: I am of similar frame( 162,55kg) and xs shirt from Connor fit nicely

        • @Hiroko:

Yep I have some of them already! Not a fan of their collars with a suit though :/

        • @Hiroko:

seconded, im 6ft, 62kg and connor XS or S slim fit is the best fitting ive ever found.

  • +4

Book a cheap ticket to Japan and go to UniQlo there.

When you say "I need more conservative colours for work". What colours do you need? blue? white?

    • That's a perfect suggestion. You will definitely find some great fitting shirts in Japan, plus you get an awesome holiday in the bargain.

    • Well most of the patterns are more of the clubby night out sort of shirts and not a lot of checkered/striped shirts that aren't in a weird shade.

    • +3

Or HK. If you can't find shirts that fit, eat Yum Cha until they do.

  • +3

    Wow 50kg, you need 10 more kg's

    Do you even eat?

    • I don't get fat hahahah

      • Good in one way I suppose haha

      • I used to be like you man, now I get fat just by looking at food.

Some good advice in this thread, if you go all out on the maccas and Pizza and hit the gym you'll beef up in no time.

Think of all the chicks you can pull when you fill out that white shirt you got on in the pic haha

      • thats what you think. I was like you. 185 @ 65kg.

Im now 87kgs, of course i only gained it when i started gyming and eating.

        • Damn, how did you get so tall! Give me some of that lol

      • Ignore the people who are telling you to gain weight. Your BMI of 18 is low for white people but normal for asians. As long as you do some exercise and are not loosing weight no reason to worry.

I would recommend going to myer and trying slim fits of various brands. You may find a brand which his good fit and then wait for it to go on sale or try buy online.

        • Noted! :)

        • -2

          *losing not loosing idiot

        • +1

BMI isnt a good indicator for being healthy or normal.

        • @davus:

its a guide and needs to be considered with other factors aswell. (i.e. muscular person with high bmi is not unhealthy)

But I think it is a good guide as to whether one should be worried about being underweight.

  • Lol good luck. They don't make shirts for small bods

  • Find some shirts you like, good quality ones that will last, and get them taken in at the sides.

    • Will that reduce the width of the arm sleeve as well?

      • No :s ,

Well i guess that would be possible. Not sure about where the sleeve meets the shirt though.

      • I had sides taken in and sleeves slimmed. Local place did it for $25. Got shirt for $35 from ctshirts, so $60 for a tailored look shirt is cheaper alternative than $110 for fully tailored

  • +3

I'm 167cm and 72kg. Try Brooksfield and Jack London. Decent brands and pretty good for the slimmer guys.

Or travel to Asia and get their clothing :P

    • +1

+1 for Brooksfield. Great fit and quality for slimmer guys. Wait for the sales though, quite pricey at RRP.

      • Agreed. There can be a fair bit of variation in their shirts though, especially between those labelled 'Slim fit' and those that aren't.

    • I like Brooksfield fit but the sleeves are too long. One workaround is to buy them and get the sleeves shortened but this is usually pretty expensive ~$35-40

  • Hi

Neck and sleeve length look ok

I know you said tailored shirts are too expensive but would you pay someone to put some darts in the TM shirt?

    • Yup! What areas does darting target?

EDIT: and depends how much….. student feels :(

      • If you get darts they are basically bring in the waist/body to give a more tapered look

They just taper in material in the side Seam or back

From memory they cost 30-50 depending on the clothes shop. Find the cheap little clothes or shirt press shop and ask them how much

Not cheap for the finished product but you get something you'll wear and look fitted in

  • -2

The shirt is fine, just tuck it in your trousers and stand up straight. Honestly, stand up straight and conduct yourself like a man.

  • Washing in hot water then into the dryer shrinks cotton I think!
Ask your mum or any older female, they know these things
Exercise would be better though, just tensing muscle is a rep x 10 a few times a day
Eat more meat beans nuts less rice and buy a bbq

    • I'm hoping something is being lost in translation here…

You're not advocating contracting your muscles a few times a day as a muscle building activity are you?

      • Actually, study found that just imagining yourself tensing your muscles is enough to build strength and size. Very inefficiently of course.

  • Try buying kid's sizes

  • +1

Calibre's XS slim-fit shirts are expensive but very small compared to other brands. Have you tried Brookfield XS & Saba XS?

    • Will definitely look into them :)

    • Wow… they are expensive at ~$200 each

  • +1

Hot wash + hot dryer! That's how all my shirts are now too small for me.

    • +1

      LOL

  • +3

MJ Bale. They generally have a 5 for $200 sale. There are some really nice shirts there! I think the size 37 with "Samurai" fit, will be a perfect fit for you! I'm pretty much similar size to you as well.

Also have a look at the XS shirts from Topman.

    All the best

    • +2

I tried it the other day, felt baggier than TM Lewin :/

      • Are you sure you tried the "samurai" fit and not the "super slim fit"?

        • +1

Certain, but I'll check again :)

        • @w84am8:

MJ Bale size 36 Samurai might fit you as it's quite a slim fit, sometimes they are on sale at Myer. Or if you have an Amex card you can use this offer:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239215

        • @w84am8:

Try the samurai fit. It's the slimmest they go. I have quite a few MJ Bale shirts.
Quality seems ok, and price isn't too bad.

        • @psy:

Tried on size 36 Samurai cut, torso-wise fits amazing but sleeve width……so so so baggy :(

        • @w84am8:

Hi mate, keep in mind that size 36 shirt is almost unheard of in this country, so in a way that is a rare find.
Personally I shop around for business shirts (small sizes) and I have NEVER seen a size 36 in any brand. Even places like David Jones stopped carrying a lot of size 37 in brands, except for over-stock.

If you are interested in quality then MJ Bale are very good shirts, you might want to invest in some good tailoring/alteration if you can find a shirt that fits well on the shoulders + torso… sleeves can be altered to fit.

          my other tips:
Jack London XS is a good choice too… quality relative to price is not great though
Van Heusen Slim Fit … I really like these

Mall Chain Places like YD will have XXS sizes often too so check those out.

          Good luck.

  • +1

    Buy your shirts in asia.

  • +1

Mass gainers + gym! Do it. Train hard and you can that frame looking awesome fitting nicely in many "small" shirts.

  • +4

    Fly to Hong Kong.
    G2000
    Uniqlo

    Pricing competitive

Look for slim fit… try them on.
Then pick colours… and ask for new stock from warehouse in plastic.

    QC the shirts.

    Fits well.
    New styles. In season.

    • I had a G2000, it was a really nice shirt. I think i got it while I was in singapore?

      • They have shops all over Asia.
Can't beat them for price, comfort, fitting and ease of iron.
They also sell really small shirts that is suitable for the OP

      • I was in Singapore last week. Uniqlo shops are everywhere. Big shops with lots of varieties. Shopped there quite a bit. Good quality stuff at affordable price.

  • +2

you won't find many places online that fit perfectly… either go on a trip or get your friends/family to buy you some shirts from G2000 (Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore etc) … perfect fit for asians… i am of a similar build and height to you and i stock up on shirts (about 10-20 at a time… so it lasts for years)

  • +1

Well my parents are from HK so I am definitely going to try and make a trip this year!

How much are the shirts and suits from G2000?

    • They got stupid discounts.

      Buy 3 for 10%off
      Buy 4 for 20%off
Buy 5 shirts and get 30%
      *from memory… 5 shirts were about $180aud
(Got a couple in the same colour…)

Roughly $200aud for suit… they will measure and cut to fit you free of charge.

Speak nicely in Canto if you can. Staff are customer oriented and can use a break from their Mainland hoards.
      Be patient…
They have called other shops and to confirm stock and sizes.
Got it all ready and emailed me for pickup.

      Good service.

      • Are the suits 100's-120's Merino wool too? If it is then its an awesome price :D

Ehhhhh I can only speak conversational Canto so hopefully that's enough. I can't even listen to Canto song's without english subs because I don't understand what half the words mean haha

        • Suits most prob wool and polyester blend

        • There is an outlet store near Star city shopping centre.
I got my g2k shirts from there, and it averages $20-$25 AUD from memory, but it could have posibbly been cheaper.
4 years on, it still looks and fits great.

  • Have you tried Yes Style?

    http://www.yesstyle.com.au/

HUGE range of items and lots of photos to give you a better idea on cut/style. Mostly casual stuff, but I recall some suits and shirts buried somewhere in there. Read the item descriptions carefully because there's a fair bit of cheapy polyester stuff listed on their site.

I personally couldn't find much, but I'm closer to average-Australian sized, so it might work out perfectly for you.

    • No I haven't but I'm told quality can be horrendous. The styles are great though!

  • Try zara also…
