  • Why the sudden rush into 16GB of RAM?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240654

I realise they have different specs - but my point is about 16GB. How many programs require that?

    • I don't think there was a sudden jump to 16GB.
Probably become more mainstream due to a gradual increase in application demands + decrease in cost back to 2011/12 ddr3 sdram prices

Why the sudden rush into 16GB of RAM?

      E-peen.

    • A game like such as Star Wars Battlefront officially recommends 16GB RAM i suppose for best gameplay experience. Perhaps things like that is the reason. People may upgrade to 16GB when game publishers officially recommend 16GB RAM which has already happened. Plus 16GB DDR3 ram is only about $100-110 delivered as evident in this thread deal. There really is no reason not to upgrade to 16GB ram when it's recently this cheap. I upgraded to 16GB RAM a few months ago but this was on a Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz deal from Amazon.

    • None, thats the point of ram, to have excess

  • Make sure your mobo supports this before buying… my z68 board will only ran it at 1600 for some reason and technically can't run ram faster than 2133.

    • xmp enabled?
Do you have a link to the mobo?

  • What's the difference between this and LPX?

    • Different heatspreader design.

      LPX looks to be DDR4.

  • OP, might want to update your post, price has now dropped to $75.73 USD shipped. New all time low on Camelcamelcamel

    • Cheers for the info. Keep in mind though that the local price just dropped too. MSY went from $139 —> $123 , so for anyone wanting local quick pickup, that's also a decent price.

And yet there are idiots on Gumtree asking $150+, for used parts.
