This was from today's Melbourne Herald Sun https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/38141/image.jpg

  • So… any particular deals?

  • Also on the web site so should be everywhere.

  • Heard the radio ad in NSW too, but no bargain was mentioned.

  • Heard it on the radio the past few weeks. Seems like the "Cheap Thursday" is going to be a regular thing

  • Will wait for super saturday.

  • Any reviews???

Anyone know the star energy rating?

I have one. Great tv. I love it. Took a while learning android tv but works great with plex / kodi and many other things.

Well I went into good guys and had a play with the tv's, if you want 4K, then get this Sony, better colour and contrast than LG's UF680T, but the LG has better viewing angles. Samsung JU6400 is also not as nice as the Sony in motion clarity and contrast, both have rather average viewing angles. Samsung is pricier as well. Samsung has a quicker interface, but Sony has android which means endless features. In the store I came to the conclusion that the Sony's were the best value for money tv's whether you want 1080p or 4K. The only step up from the Sony's is the LG OLED tv's, other than for oled steer away from LG as their led lcd tv's aren't as good as Sony's. Samsungs SUHD tv's are overpriced in the face of OLED.

      4 star

  • Try get Bing Lee or TGG to price beat first.

  • anything yet in 4K?

    • A few series and movies on Netflix but at around 20GB/hr you may fly thru your monthly allowance.

      • Doesn't few telcos provide quota free netflix? Or does that apply only to 1080p?

        • Your right, Optus, iiNet, Internode, Westnet and Adam all apparently do.

PS4 displays images and videos in 4k.

    • +3

      PS4 only outputs 1080p.
I believe the HDMI interface is 1.4 so they could do 4K resolution but only limited to 30Hz. That's probably the reason they're sticking to 1080p instead.

There are rumours about Sony releasing a hardware revised PS4 that outputs 4K. Although we'll have to see if they upgrade the Blu-ray player (hopefully) or it might be limited to content from VOD services.

      • movies are 24hz

        • Most are at present (apart from some UK content 50i/25p) but that should change. YouTube already has higher frame rate content and UHD Blu-ray goes higher too, although I don't think they have released a movie in this format that actually utilizes it yet.

So by Sony making the PS4 undergo a hardware revision to HDMI 2.x that will allow for streaming services (YouTube, Netflix - when they release proper content etc) and physical media (UHD Blu-ray) to output at their full resolution and frame rate.

    Power Consumption Sleep/Standby = 50W

    • for real? that's a lot for a TV in standby..

      • +1

Apparently these Sony TVs have different modes… sleep/standby isn't really "off", it's just a standby mode where the TV can respond quickly if the user presses the remote. Whereas if you turn it off properly, it uses < 1W of power but it then takes longer to turn on and respond in that off state.

(I was concerned about these power consumption figures as well and did some digging)

    • +7

      Official specs say 0.5W Standby
      196W when turned on

  • JB carry the same model so price match available

  • I am not able to see offer on this SONY 4K 55''. Is the offer is still valid ?

  • +1

And the true refresh rate is?

    • The panel will be the same 50/60hz like every other TV.

      With frame interpolation:
Motionflow XR 200Hz (from the specifications)

It doesn't really matter though because even with HFR (High Frame Rate) content should only be 48Hz, at least that's what the Hobbit movie was using. It's HFR because that's double the frames of traditional 24p content.

      • They never made a HFR version available though did they? that was cinema-only. Bluray specs don't allow for HFR anyway.

        • UHD Blu-ray goes up to 60Hz.

        • They haven't released a HFR version for home media yet. Hopefully they'll release a version for UHD Blu-ray where you can toggle between 24p and 48p.

  • Can anyone please tell me the US model number for this TV?

    • +1

      Most likely XBR 55x810C

  • Harvey Norman doing some pretty good deals lately

    • +4

Harvey finally realised there is a thing called competition?

  • +2

Any views on this model vs the KD55X8500C, for $300 more?

Seems to have 3D, better colour, and MotionFlowXr800 (vs 200).

  • Didn't see any deals/signs or anything in Gepps Cross….

  • So nothing cheap Thursday?

  • Should i wait for HDR tv, coming out this year?

    • +1

The 8500C (and I think some other models/brands) already has it (although no local dimming on the 55.)

  • good price but this model is not great, better go for Panasonic UHDTV or Samsung UHDTV
