shop in K often, a reminder that
these are more for cool than cold.

      Not suitable for Canberra then?

Much more detailed than my post, cheers

  • Kathmandu's sale structure is so frustrating, especially with their summit club deals. I wanted to buy 2 backpacks that were on sale with summit club for 300. Then that sale ended and an even bigger 40% off sale followed. The 40% off was taken off the RRP of the pack which was 650 dollars which made the pack a sale price of 380 with summit club. Thankfully another easter sale followed and I managed to get the 2 packs for 270 each. So much variation between their prices. Shows how much room they have to move.

I know exactly what you mean.

The pricing is all over the place, with the 'Summit Club Deals' often being worse value than just waiting for a normal sale. I was going to buy some stuff a few weeks ago when they had a 'Summit Club Offer', but held off; now the stuff is even cheaper during their Easter Sale.

Rule of thumb is to make sure you are getting 60-70% as this seems to be the extreme of their discounts. That way you have less margin for disappointment. If you buy at 40-50% off then you can be sure a better deal will roll around.

      • Yeah well the first girl i spoke to in store didn't have a clue and just said she couldnt do anything to help. Spoke to another guy in at the Elizabeth St store and he told me of the Easter sale coming up and I managed to get the bags i wanted for as much as they were selling at their factory outlet. So I did alright eventually. Just such a strange way to make money, no one ever pays full price there.

you are right. sale is on all the time - a strategy to lead customers think they get a bargain.

As a regular Kathmandu customer, I use their RRP as a guide.
One third of RRP is the lowest price they will sell, good buy if it is 1/3 or less. Rarely less than 1/3 unless faulty or retired technology.
1/2 of RRP is normal price, but if I really like the item.
Above 1/2 RRP, I don't touch unless desperate.

Their "retail" prices are a joke on most items, even many of their standard discounts are above equivalent products in other outdoor shops.

Another example of what you were talking about in this sale. One of the down vests (the Heli iirc) is cheap in nasty blue but 3+ times that price in other colours ($224?). BUT if you look you'll see their next offer in yellow text - you can buy two of those very same vests for $199 even as they advertise the "special" Summit Club $224 price for one - all down from the hugely inflated "RRP" of $278. Obviously aimed at convincing you that you're getting a fabulous deal.

Anyone who pays any attention to their RRPs deserves what they get. Kathmandu was originally based on good gear at good prices. It is now without doubt one of, if not THE, most expensive purveyors of outdoor stuff.

I think they are giving out the 10% off voucher. I got one when i picked up my order which was placed through online shop. So, the best is to order a very cheap one from the online shop(through cashrewads to get 4.8%),then use the 10% off voucher to buy what you want in the shop.(it is limitted to instore purchase).

    • Thanks for information. I want to make sure if this voucher can be stacked. Do you mind checks the voucher for us if there is any exclusion printed on the voucher?

      Much appreciated!
