Australian, born in Israel, visiting Dubai

Hello,

I have a friend, he is an Australian citizen
He was born in Israel and migrated to Australia 20 years ago.
He is planning to visit Dubai for few days when he goes to Europe in May as a tourist.

Would there be any problems with him entering Dubai?

He has a new Australian passport that doesn’t have any stamps yet but it does show that

• place of birth is specified as one of the Israeli cities
• Nationality is AUSTRALIAN

Normally the Entry Visit Visa is granted by the UAE Authorities upon arrival at Dubai airport free of charge.

He will be traveling with his girlfriend. They are not married.

Should he apply for Dubai visa in advance, while he is in Australia to avoid any problems at the Dubai airport customs?
How long does the application take? Where is the best place to apply for it?

Thank you

Googles "UAE" to sound all informed in the OzBargain forum. Gets ads on OzBargain advertising ADIB (Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank) Personal Finance for eternity…I wonder if they hand out sign-up bonuses?

Update: My bad. It's just this page. Other pages mostly get Vaya ads.

You would be meshuga to go to Dubai. No proper legal system and in the dark ages in many respects.

Is there any reason for him to go to Dubai? Honestly I just wouldn't bother. With that money he could visit another country that will happily accept him as a tourist.

Ill throw it out there that I dont have any experience travelling there but I've read a lot. Just because he has an Australian passport, he will still be perceived as an Isreali.

It's simply not worth the risk.

  • Dubai should welcome an Israeli with open arms… they are after all best of allies (under the table).

  • Hahaha, they absolutely won't care.

I think you shouldn't risk it regardless of what the embassy in Canberra says. Also I feel Dubai is too hyped up. Nothing special.

Why on earth would an Israeli want to go to Dubai? Is he an Arab Israeli? Because if he is Jewish he should be avoiding it like the plague.

  • As if we (women especially) needed another reason not to go to this or s**thole:

A British tourist allegedly gang-raped in Dubai faces a prison sentence and needs £24,000 for legal fees after police accused her of having "extra-marital sex".
She is now on bail, but is not allowed to leave the country and is said to be "absolutely terrified" of being imprisoned for breaching strict laws on sex.

  • on the flip side i got detained in israel for visiting malaysia more than 15 times in one year, when attempting to leave.

when asked why, i said cos air asia is ********* cheap.

8 hours later and watching some dude practically sniff my 7 week unwashed solidy skidded undies i was let go, albeit a little late for my flight.

That's not a 'flip side' - that's SOP for any country that's in the slightest way serious about border/drug control.

Qantas lost the whole Jewish market when they linked up with the Arabs(Emirates).

No Jewish person wants to go anywhere near an arab country, period.

  • Just in case anyone needed another reason to avoid these Arab shitholes…
