FREE Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Steam Key (Requires VPN) @ Golden Joystick

1280

Updated the link, no longer need VPN (Thanks Harrison)

Must use VPN or you'll get this message "We are really sorry but Golden Joystick store is currently not available in your country." I used a UK VPN with Tunnel Bear

Old Link - http://store.goldenjoystick.com/free-dark-souls

You need to submit your email and Steam ID number thing. You don't need to subscribe to the mailing list or anything. Says it will send the key within 7 days so it could be a bit of a wait.

It's recommended to use this mod http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/19/?
Because it's a crap port

Update:
Original link says the giveaway is over. Updated link seems to working. Odd

    Best game ever bar none

      Praise the sun.

  • I used this VPN on chrome

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unlimited-free-vpn…

It also works with the US too.

  • Used a work VPN through Singapore and it worked fine, apart from my phone's 4G connection… Pity it takes up to 7 days to get the key :(

  • Sweet I'll give this a go when I get home. Always wanted to try out these Dark Souls games. I hear they're a little bit of a challenge.

    • They are not really hard. Just make you burn your house down when you lose a couple million souls.

      • Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo weren't hard?

        • Oh man, those god damn snipers!

        • +2

Nope for me, blight-town and the place with all the skeleton tomb of the giant was harder.
I dont usually die because something kill me, i die because the game is too dark, i couldnt see where i was going then fall to my death.

        • @highdealer:
… I just remembered the nightmare that was Blighttown. I went there way too early on my first run through because I had the master key, and regretted every moment of it.

Tomb of the Giants wasn't so bad so long as you stepped carefully.

    • It will make you frustrated, it will make you angry and it will make you cry. But when you finally beat that first skeleton, you will feel triumphant!

      • I'm actually looking forward to it because I usually find games easy pick up on enemy patterns quickly.

        • +1

It not the enemy that will kill you my friend…

        • Ah well, Dark souls is a very pattern focused game. So much so that you can finish the game naked and level 1 once u master the boss paterns

        • +3

          Try Jumping

      • If you're talking about the ones behind Firelink Shrine, you should not be fighting those when you first get to that area…

    • Always wanted to try them too. Never picked one up before though because I thought I'd just get frustrated with them.

      • git gud or die tryin, casul

      • Try without shield, no leveling, use starting equipment. Knight is a good one, long sword FTW. Upgrading weapon to +15 is allowed

    • I found it much better/easier to play with a controller on my pc.

    • +3

Hope you've got a controller ready

  • Was about to get this then realised I have already got it free somewhere…

Should really get around to playing it at some point

    • Using the ID finder thing I got something in the format STEAM_0:1:12345678
Is that the format they want?

      • +1

You can just leave that field blank.

        • I don't believe this should be downvoted. The web form allowed me to submit my request for it, and did not demand this field to be filled in as a prerequisite.

    • Nice. Updated the post

  • 7 days to receive my key. no VPN required.

    woo

  • On the details page of the golden joystick it states "The key will be available and useable 4 March 2016 until 31 March 2016", are they going to revoke keys, or is it just badly worded?

    • Might be that you have until 31 March to activate the key?

      • Yeah, i'm assuming that's what they mean… it would suck if I get half way through, then the key expires haha

    • I think it means that the key will expire on the 31st, not the actual game. If you activate it before the 31st you keep it forever.

  • thanks

    Obligatory Dark Souls post:
If you're considering purchasing this, you should also consider downloading this mod which increases the frame rate of the game to 60, among a slew of other things you can find the mod here.
Be sure to alter the option files that are inside the download, as those allow you to optimise your gameplay.
Additional mods for the game may be found here, but require third-party programs

  • I just finished playing this and now I've moved onto 2, I want to finish in preparation for 3. There's still a lot of multiplayer, got invaded a couple of times and had plenty of co op. I have to say it will stand out as being one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I finished Demon's Souls before so I knew what I was getting into and which definitely made it easier to play.

  • Fantastic! I've recently finished Bloodborne (amazing game) and pre-ordered the collector's edition for DS3. I've never played DS1 or DS2.

    • Bloodborn is no where near as good as Demon Souls or Dark Souls

Just so everyone knows, the Ts&Cs state it's only for UK and EU. Whether or not it matters, I'm not sure however using UK as your country couldn't hurt.

It shouldn't matter if you can still click onwards, but just thought it be known.

  • "Offer open to UK/EU residents only"

  • Thanks!

  • So giveaway is over? Oh well.

  • Still no key yet but then it's only been less than two days. Guess we'll see who's lucky with this.

  • i registered for this on thursday 10th march and still havent gotten my key yet
is there an email address we can contact them with ??

  • So anyone got their key yet?

    I'm not feeling hopeful.

  • +1

Got an email saying I didn't get a key - due to limited stock and unprecedented demand.

  • +1

Due to limited stock and unprecedented demand you have not been successful in your application for a Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition download key.

But there is still some good news!

  • +3

I was also an 'unlucky' recipient of a PC gamer subscription. Such a shame, I was really looking forward to playing this.

    • +2

Truth is, I was about to buy this game (20USD on Steam) before this offer was announced. Free is always better, but for the price, apparently it's a great game

  • +1

No key or email here :/

  • +2

    So much for a giveaway.

If anyone wants the 3 month subscription to PC Gamer magazine which is apparently 'brilliant' (in their own words) or 10% code off their Golden Stick store, PM me for the codes. Not sure if I can just post them here, but I feel dirty just having them.

  • +1

    Pfft. Don't want a 3 month subscription to a magazine I wouldn't read. I wanted the game.

  • +1

    Did anyone get a key?
I too received a brilliant gift and I have a brilliant place where they can stick their brilliant subscription.
But thats not all folks …….

So did anyone actually get a key? I find it funny that there wernt expecting a huge amount of people wanting a Dark Souls game for FREE. I mean really. When the word free is involved, people jump on it like vultures because anything free is (mostly) good. Especially if it is a Darksouls game lol.

But hey, despite the fact many didn't get a key, at least they gave SOMETHING. May not be a game, but something is better than nothing? Im gonna redeem the code and i hope i dont need credit card info to redeem it….

EDIT: Okay, so after a quick look on their website trying to access my 'free' 3 months to PC gamer magazine, i am under the impression that it is required to use credit card details so they can subtract the cost of the magazines monthly after your 'free' months ended. Well what i said about getting 'something' for free i instantly take back now. Also found out if you want to cancel the subscription, you have to go through the hassle of Ringing them up….

So (profanity) you for not giving me anything despite what you say as free. But then again, who was i to expect it to be credit card free/subscription free anyway?

EDIT2: So i decided to just go along with it and put in fake details to get my subscription anyway. On their website you dont need to put any credit card details despite what is says. It just asks you to put in email, password and address details. It then goes through. It then asks me to go to the app and verify it to download there (I have an Android device). Alright so i decided to verify subscription through the app using an 'exsisting subscription' on the UK edition (US edition not doesn't have the option? When i put the email and password in, it says 'can't verify subscription'. WTH? I try the website and login there but it says my account cannot be found? WTF. Resetting my password works but still cant login. Im gonna give it an hour or less. Ill keep it updated.

    • EDIT2: So an hour later, my account still 'cant be found'…. So even if i really wanted to use this code, i have now 'lost' my account. How does that even happen….

      • +1

EDIT3: So 4 hours later, my account 'exists' now on their website however im still unable to get use an 'existing subscription' for the PC gamer magazines on Android. Still says cant verify subscription….

Anyone else getting a similar issue? Its pretty infuriating not getting a key and the free thing they get you doesn't work properly….

        • Did you ever figure this out? I'm in the same boat. There's no button to add a subscription to the US PC Gamer magazine, and it won't work for the UK magazine either.

        • @CaptainStingray: Nope. I can safely assume we got completely shafted. I after 3 days still cannot access my 'free' 3 month pc gamer subscription because the it still cannot verify my account. This is just one hell of a cluster f**k.
This is for the UK version of the magazine because the US doesn't have an option for existing accounts…

    I'm with azzajess,
A big (profanity) you. This was just a scheme to get email details. Looks like nobody gets the code.

I would like to take up there offer and slash 10% off their golden joystick.

  • +1

(profanity) you PC Gamer what a (profanity) scam

"Your requested copy of Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition
Due to limited stock and unprecedented demand you have not been successful in your application for a Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition download key."

  • +1

Has anyone started an OzBargain Lynch mob? Of course we'd need to find cheap flights to the UK…

  • +2

I didn't get a free key either. It seems that this was more of a competition than a deal/freebie.

  • What a waste of time that was. Sorry about that.. Apparently they did give out 10,000 keys. If they did do this just for our emails then that is extremely dodgy but I hope it was just an honest mistake

    • No need to apologise mate. They should have had more keys… and I've unsubscribed already from their mailing list.
