    Too bad it's red

    • +2

Doesn't RED make it go faster? :)

  • Nice find, was looking for a new laptop at 13.3" - it's REALLY hard to find a half decent one at a good price!

  • Does anyone know if you can upgrade the ram?

    • Yes you can

"RAM: 2GB DDR3 800 expandable to 4GB (One slot used, One slot free) "

  • pity bout the CPU :( - ULV - slow…

    • Yeah but it's super thin and up to 9hr battery. You can't get that from a faster CPU.

Closest I've seen is MacBook Pro up to 7hrs bat with C2D 2.53GHz

ulv means long battery life, and that's the point of the ulv cpus

  • Good deal!

This is classified as a netbook - and working in retail this sells really well for people who want a lightweight computer.

Although the one that you'll find in most retail stores is the:

    4GB / 500G model
Which also comes with 3G modem built in under the battery.
    Which normally retails for $1300

Must say the build quality is really nice too.

So it would be an easy upgrade to the better model - just buy a 500g drive and another stick of ram and you'll easily get it all for way less than $1300 and you'll get a 2.5" external 250g out of the one that's already in there (just buy a $10 external case).

But what would be really awesome - is an SSD. Would give even more battery life and performance.

    • actually this is classified as a notebook
netbooks are the smaller 12" and below models running off the atom processor

and the big plus on the 1300 model ur saying is the benfit of a built in modem that is worth the cash to not have to carry a dongle around

      • +1

The definition of netbook isn't anywhere near that specific.

It's basically a combination of small, light, cheap, missing some features (e.g. optical), and of low computing power - and not necessarily all of those.

      • Without an optical drive, I'd class this as a Netbook as well.

      • Yep it's an Ultraportable notebook, not a Netbook.

    • -1

netbook is only those which uses atom man

      • +2

        Simply untrue.

The first netbooks to be a big hit were the Asus eeePCs with Celerons.

      • Yeah? And where on the internet is an official clarification that all Netbooks must have Atom processors?

    • Definately a notebook. Simply put, Netbooks are designed for internet browsing and light apps. Because this uses a Core 2 Duo, even though it is ULV, it is much more capable than the netbooks currently available use the Atom.

      • Well if that's the case - are 11.6" C2D ULVs also notebooks??

    • The netbook/notebook lost its distinction a long time ago. They were originally, as tantryl points out, supposed to be ultra-portable with a long battery life. In fact, when they first came out, netbooks were predominately Linux-based.

This year, those devices with a similar ethos are dubbed a "smartbook" (which now use something like Snaprdragon).

Bit silly to be arguing about semantics at this point though!

not a good deal, can get for same price at anytime at www.mln.com.au
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=812&typeID=#

    • +2

Good point, but delivery on this mln is $29 and catch of the day is $9.95.. so there is still a slight saving, nothing to make me rush out and get the catch of the day deal though…

  • what about the DVD slot? missing that one on this beauty?

    • Yes. Which contributes to the idea it's a netbook, not a notebook.

      • definitely going to classify dell adamo xps and macbook air as netbook then

        • -1

          And my Asus UL30VT

To me, netbooks are 10.1 inch and smaller. Simplist definition. If its a 12 incher with an Atom CPU, its just one really underpowered notebook.

And try finding a non-Atom CPU in a laptop under 10 inches in size.

          • +2

@Shadowsfury: As mentioned above - Celeron 900MHz was the most common for a while. Also check on the AMD Athlon Neo. Atom is actually being kind of replaced by the Core 2 Solo & Duo ULV lines.

Seriously, do people only have 12 month memories?

I imagine in a couple of years people will be like "Atom? Pfft, you need a Core i3 IncrediEfficient for it to be a real netbook!"

          • @Shadowsfury: And try finding a non-Atom CPU in a laptop under 10 inches in size.

Easy. Celeron as tantryl points out, or Snapdragon.

  • Hadly a bargain if the difference between buying from a specialist bricks and mortar retailer and an online store selling all sorts, is only the postage.

    • $20 bucks off postage isn't bad plus CoTD 24 mth extended warranty is only $99 whilst MLN's is $189

  • Pick up from MLN for same price and you then have a shopfront to deal with for warranty issues. Not to mention a laptop retailer that can support a labtop !

    • +1

yeah thats easy if we all are in Melbourne …

    • +1

Yea too bad im not in Melb.

      Is a neg really needed?

      • A neg from us melbournians. Nice deal for those interstate.
