  • Is there a link from Crazy John's site?

Nice deal by the way. You'll probably use up the whole 5GB the first day with that $100 iTunes credit :)

  • No unfortunately… That's why I just directed the link to Vodafone. It's definitely on for all Crazy John Shops. I think it's a bit too new to be promoted online.

On a side note, all Crazy Johns should have a functional Apple iPhone for everyone to play around with too. That was what I was told and having played around with a real iPhone I really want one!!!

  • No problems getting this either in Melb through Crazy Johns… just had to remind the guy several times about the $100 in vouchers though.

Here's a link to the latest software for those who go out and purchase it. It was hard for me to find on the vodafone website:

    http://www.vodafone.com.au/Business/BusinessSolutions/Vodafo…

  • Do you still need to download software for the USB modem? So would you need to download the software onto any PC/laptop that you connect the USB modem to?

Also, what is the rate they are referring to in "When you venture outside 3G broadband areas, you’ll be switched seamlessly onto our GPRS network and you’ll only be charged one rate." There's nothing in the T&Cs.

    • Do you still need to download software for the USB modem?

It does come with the software on a CD but yes you do need to at least install drivers, then you can connect via dial up networking. The newer software is only slightly better not really worth a 75meg download.

Also, what is the rate they are referring to in “When you venture outside 3G broadband areas, you’ll be switched seamlessly onto our GPRS network and you’ll only be charged one rate.” There’s nothing in the T&Cs.

That got me too, i asked customer service, it just means that unlike 3 you wont get charged $1.65 for roaming, if you still have quota left it will use that, if you dont have any quota left it will only cost 10c a meg (the same as 3g rates).

      • Thanks for the response.

Can you (or anyone else who have connected to the Vodafone Mobile Broadband) comment on the speed and coverage? Is it faster than dial up and doesn't drop out often?

        • I think it would be best to check out this thread on Whirlpool:

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=862865

You might wish to start from the last page of discussion so you don't need to read through all 20+ pages.

        • No worries.

I haven't really given it a strong test yet, since it is needed in Adelaide for a few weeks and i don't wanna run outta quota so i am using my DSL for now. But i have downloaded a 13meg file at 100KB/s (2x my 512k ADSL top speed).

But yeah i also posted the speed tests and stuff in the whirlpool thread that scotty pointed to. have a good read of that thread.

  • the roaming charges on 3 put me off them. voda also has a bigger network overall so you'll at least have more access than 3.

    • Just got myself a Three phone and I am quite surprised that how often they roam! And I am living closer to CBD than you, bevisaurus! It must suck to set your PC to download something automatically, go to get a cuppa, and come back finding half the files are downloaded while in roaming!

  • There is a link on the Craxy johns site now.

This is great because I was going to get one of these anyway, the $100 iTunes card is a cool bonus.

    • thanks SteveM. I have added it to the main post.
