    Vaya? What a joke.

  • +2

You'd have to be the biggest idiot on the planet to sign up with Vaya.
    Whirlpool. Product Review.
Plenty of sites warning people of Vaya

    • +2

Note that Vaya was bought by Amaysim in January of this year. Once Amaysim completely implement their strategies for Vaya, historical experiences may not be representative of the current experience.

We've all heard those fairy tales.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they were still jerking me around in February with regard to my "Security Deposit" refund after churning out last year, so anecdotal experience of their poor customer service is still fairly current IMO.

        • I received my security deposit back in February with pretty limited hassle. In fact, the last of it just came off my bill which I received today.

Taking over a company and making changes doesn't happen instantaneously, there'll be teething problems with any changes. But you don't sign up to Vaya if you're wanting stellar customer service.

          @pernunz:

But you don't sign up to Vaya if you're wanting any customer service.

          Fixed. :)

        • +3

Is the Security deposit still required for new sign-ups?

        • @Holysmoke: I would suspect they aren't charging it now seeing as though they, along with other MVNOs got told off by ACMA but don't have any direct experience with a new signup.

(Basically, they need to perform a credit check on an individual before charging a security deposit, and what they did previously was not in accordance with that)

Myself and 4 friends are signed up to vaya have had very few issues with vaya in the 2 years we've been with them. All issues were resolved with a call to their call centre. Does take a while during peak hours to get on tho.
    Great value.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

Vaya is like a Credit Card, comes down to how you use it. Yes they may have terrible Customer Service, but if you never go over your usage quota then you shouldn't need to deal with that part of the business. With that aside, then they are no different to any MVNO re-selling Optus' network.

  • I do not see the unlimited calls bit. $650 worth of credit for calls is not unlimited. Description in title and deal re not just misleading - they are plainly wrong.

I do not see this as a deal unless you really need 7GB rather than unlimited talk and texts and do not go over your call allowance.
I'd rather stick with the $40 Vodafone starter kits which regularly retail between $12 and $20 on offer (and sometimes even at $2!).

extra $2 per month after 6 months for unlimited…

      • Linked to: http://www.vaya.net.au/?4Gsimonly&PowerPlan&option=Mobile

        So, that's the wrong link.

Also, title is very misleading. I read this as having unlimited texts, calls and 7GB date at $32 per month this being the rate that is reduced for the first 6 months.

Also, the description of the deal does not make it clear at all. Not good.

And at $34/36 for unlimited, still not a good deal in my opinion, especially given the other deals floating around ($10 for three months Amaysim for unlimited calls and texts and 5GB data which makes it $3.33 a month).

And the cost per 2min call is horrendous!

    • Yep, my apologies. The title was wrong, no unlimited calls in the plans I posted. My bad. I've amended the title.

The plans with unlimited calls on Vaya are available and are $2 extra per month.

The Vodafone network is not a direct substitute for an Optus MVNO given different coverage areas.

      • +1

        No problem.
Unfortunately, I still do not believe this is a good deal due to cost and the fact that apparently the customer service is still bad.

        • That is a fair call, but do keep in mind the Voting Guidelines
I'm unaware of 4G Optus MVNO's which offer better prices for specific price points (excluding the discounted Amaysim packs)

        • @pernunz:

          Mayor issues with retailer
Also, Vodafone regularly runs 50% off deals.
          For example, right now:

$50 starter kit selling for $25:

Gives you unlimited calls, texts, mms and 6GB data plus 4GB (total 10GB) data if activated before 31 May 2016. So for March, April, May, June you could have that for $25 per month.

          http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid/plans

          Definitely the better deal! Sorry.

So, this is the "Deal not cheapest available" heading in the voting guidelines.

          See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/237782

Hence this deal meets two out of the three headings for which a negative vote is warranted.

        • @Lysander:

Plenty of 'historical' issues with vodafone too… and their network.

For 3 months you get $25 per month and then what? It reverts to $50? Wouldn't you in the longer run be bette roff in vaya then…

        • @SaberX:

Why 3 months? They have no expiry date. You could buy 20 kits if you wanted.
Plus I can assure you that there will be lots of other cheaper deals in the space of three months. Don't believe me? Check the past year and examine the deals and deal frequency.

        • @Lysander: Again, note that Vodafone has a different network to Optus. There may be some users who require coverage in an area that Optus has coverage, but Vodafone does not. Vodafone and Optus are not direct substitutes. It would be like downvoting an unleaded petrol deal because diesel is cheaper in certain circumstances.

        • @pernunz:

I disagree. If that was the case we could only compare Optus deals to Optus deals, Telstra deals to Telstra deals etc. Unrealistic.
Even allowing for the coverage issue, one can still determine if it is a good deal or better deal. I have used all networks and had to deal with coverage issues. Still, a $1 deal on a network with 90% coverage in my area is still better value in my opinion than a $30 deal with 91% coverage.

        • @Lysander: Without wanting to be pedantic, that doesn't follow the voting guidelines. If a deal doesn't apply to you, then it should be No Vote.

        • @pernunz:

          It does apply to me.
It just is not a deal.
I have explained to you how it is not a deal and satisfies two of the guidelines for a negative vote:

          Service cheaper elsewhere
          Issues with retailer

You will not convince me otherwise so please stop trying. Just be accepting.
25 dollars, more data, and no expiry data make Vodafone the better deal.

  • +2

    $2.33 for a 2min call?? Wow

I wish providers would just advertise these things in minutes, rather than $xxx worth of calls (with some hidden variable per minute rate)… would be more transparent and make it easier to compare offerings for consumers

    • +1

I believe (may be wrong) that the government (or a government body) encouraged the telecommunications industry to show this calculation. Previously (and possibly currently) different retailers had different flagfall and cost per 30 second increments. This made it pretty tough for the consumer to compare different mobile phone retailers. (Is $400 with Telstra, who have a 25c flagfall and cost 60c/minute better value than $800 Optus with $2 flagfall and 5c/minute?) so they made the "2 minute phone call" the standard that had to be displayed.

In this case, you can just do $650/2.33 = around 278 2 minute calls (or 9x2 minute calls per day)

      • -1

Yes, but what if you call and get the voicemail? Call last a second and you pay flagfall plus the first 30 seconds increment.
Before coming to OZ I had lived in four different countries and visited many more. I have never ever come across a flagfall. I was shocked when I came here how archaic the billing is over here.
To avoid all of these issues, I go for the unlimited plans and swap to the cheapest whenever necessary. At $3.33 per month with Amaysim for the last three months I certainly cannot complain.

  • +1

Vaya are an absolutely joke of a company. Not worth it.

    • -2

You mean Amaysim?? since they are now the same thing since Amaysim now bought the company.

      • +1

Two different brands with two different pricing structures and levels of service still.

        • -1

Brand name really means jackshite. They essentially transitioning to now have the same culture driven by the same values and resources backed by the much bigger amaysim company.

Signed up 2 accounts in Jan, smooth and painless process. 0 Issues.

  • +1

Had issues with Port and ditched it. The above plan is still expensive compared to Vodafone post pay which can give you 300 international minutes

  • a serious question ignoring the hate on VAYA. Now they have the Unlimited Plans plan, why would one want to go on the Power Plans?

Im currently on the power plan and can't see why I'm still on it. 2$ more but u get more data and unlimited talk, so WTF?

  • Vaya website is getting ozbargained LOL

    This site can’t be reached

www.vaya.net.au took too long to respond.
    ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

    • +1

391 people clicked on the deal. So if those 391 people all clicked on it at once to sign up (assuming all did which is not the case) and that brings the website down, that really is not instilling any confidence regarding the company in me I am afraid.

  • Never ever sign up with Vaya, very bad experience with them.
They say month to month contract but when u port with other provider they charge like a Shi*.
    Don't join Vaya.

  • +1

Live connected/vaya are rubbish. Check your call logs as they don't include 13xxxx and 1300xxxxxx operator assistance numbers in their deals. So if you need to call another provider, e.g; calling Telstra for your one broadband on your mobile. Pricks tried to charge me $75 on top of my premium $40/month and $10/month contract freeze agreement and $10/month 'in case I won't pay' payment. They ended up with $40 and 2 less services to worry about.

  • I don't quite understand their pricing strategy, ONLY $2 extra per month between the "Normal" Plan vs the Unlimited Plans.

Who would still sign up for the non-unlimited plans??

    • Who would still sign up for the non-unlimited plans??

People who don't need and would not use the extra call time etc. AND who wanted to save $36 a year.

      • $2 extra per month

        save $36 a year

        I'm no mathematologist; and we didn't have new maths in my day; but isn't 12 x $2 = $24/yr???

        …well, on Earth anyways! ;)

  • -2

Can't believe they are yet again increasing the pricing.
There has to be a point where the customers will wake up and leave with a lingering dislike.

    • +2

How have prices increased? For the 7GB plan it seems cheaper than what was previously offered.

  • +1

I got 3 mobiles number with Vaya and used them for basic use on the $18 plan. Good value for kids and backup phone at home ( I hardly called customer services for anything ) . For serious use , we sign up with Optus and Telstra .
