any deals for the 32gb one? even the mediatek x10 is fine

    • coming soon

  • -8

Any good custom roms for it miui is a bit of a dog

    • +1

what specifically do you not like with miui ?

  • sorry didnt read the pro..
although redmi note 2 is cheaper on banggood..
    http://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-5_5-inch-2GB-RAM…

    • $195 for the note 2 isn't bad, gear best is $205, but the 32gb note 2 is $234 ….. is it worth $35 for the extra 16gb ?

      • Also slightly faster processor and the say the limit is 32gb on SD. Only your can answer your question :)

  • +3

    http://www.vickmall.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-pro-2gb-ram-16gb…

199 on Vickmall who are very reputable, good price on this deal too

    • Do you know which ROM Vickmall flashes to the Redmi Note 3?

      • No matter which supplier you buy a Xiaomi phone from, you are better off with flashing Global Stable ROM before using it, just to be sure that it is safe. Flashing this ROM is very easy and takes 10-15 minutes.

WOW lol… thought these news headlines were from the onion at first

  • -4

i would not buy a xiaomi with the bootloader lock condition.
    battling this at the moment.
waited a week for the phone, now waiting 3 days+ for unlock to flash a rom that makes the phone usable.

you have to sign up account, request unlock, wait 10 days, make thread in forums under complaint.
not worth it. buy a phone without the hassle is worth the extra coin.

    • Neg for you, dunno if these issues are legit but they are for advanced users only, most people won't care about bootloader

      • +2

Can't disagree with you, but in his defence, this phone's default OS (if it's like Redmi Note 2) has terrible malware/spyware apps that pop up and are annoying as f*!%. It's still great value even with it, but it's very intrusive.

However, once you root it and install a fresh OS, it's absolutely amazing.

        • +2

Flashing does not require root nor unlocking the bootloader. I did find that an extra step of "factory reset" was needed, because after flashing the adds were still there. They disappeared after a factory reset.
It's not all smooth sailing though. Few locales and languages are supported on the global ROM.

        • @Make it so: Yea flashing does not require rooting. I am aware.. but have never done it without rooting. In my mind they go hand in hand even though I know rooting is not a pre-requisite of flashing a ROM.

Mine is extremely smooth. I had more issues with incompatibilty + crappy intrusiveness as I mentioned pre-flashing.

        • +1

I would like some proof regarding malware / spyware apps. If you bought it from a legit source the stock MIUI ROM would not have any of that… Unless of course you're associating anything with Chinese characters as malware/spyware.

        • +1

@itzinfinite: If you look at some of the past deals for the Redmi Note 2, it's a common complaint.
I've personally seen 3 phones (my own + 2 friends) which had the same issue. I flashed SMIUI ROM over all of them, and it makes it so much better.

Amongst the apps that tend to pop up by themselves.. I think there are 4. I don't remember the exact names but they were something like BUBooster, CNBrowser, Accelerator, CleanMaster.

And also it feels like more than just "bloatware" to me. Bloatware to me is stuff that is unnecessary which you can't uninstall which has come bundled with the phone. These apps would actually sometimes randomly pop up without even initiating anything!

        • +1

          @illumination:

I haven't personally used one so I can't say but FYI if you consider CleanMaster junk you better not use an S6 / S6edge (hopefully nothing onwards though) as I'm pretty sure Samsung's SmartManager crap is powered by it… I had a quick check on MI app store and couldn't find the other 3 apps on it either. Seems like you purchased from a dodgey reseller tbh.

The posts you linked don't explicitly state that the Chinese ROM has malware /adware either rather caution of bloatware and of dodgey reseller ROMs.

        • @itzinfinite: I haven't not flashed a ROM on a phone I've owned since 2011 so I'm not THAT concerned by what it comes with by default. The point of me sharing what I posted above was to raise awareness that the default OS that the phone is likely to come with (seeing as we can only buy from resellers in Australia) is likely to come with the adware/bloatware/malware/spyware (whatever you wish to call it). These days, personally I'm more swayed by developer community these days (custom ROM support), so if I did for whatever reason have a S6 (Edge) then I would flash a ROM over the original OS anyway.

I know that the first two I mentioned (BUBooster and CNBrowser) are definitely not the exact names. I just can't remember their exact names but they are something like that. CleanMaster is right. Not sure about Accelerator either.

That "speed app" that one of the links mentioned is probably the BUBooster app, and the "ads and popups and crap" are the same.

To be more specific, the "pop ups" are such that you get a "Install this app?" popup to install one of the 4 apps I mentioned above, as if you had just opened an apk file.. but I didn't. I was just browsing on Chrome, viewing pictures in Gallery or doing something else, and all of a sudden BUBooster/CNBrowser/CleanMaster wants it install itself.

Dodgy reseller ROM is apparently not uncommon.

        • +1

          @illumination:

I agree with you I'll be flashing the phone mysrlf as well, it just sounded like you were accusing Xiaomi of putting adware and malware on the devices themselves which I think is wrong.
I have asked the seller I bought the RN3P from to not open the packaging as they mention they would flash global ROM with play services for me but I don't like the idea of them touching the phone. :p

        • +3

a Chinese friend explained to me what all those apps are …… Chinese aren't into Facebook or eBay as much but have their own versions ….. so what we incorrectly call malware and spyware in China are popular apps that come preloaded and that makes it convenient and a selling feature. hence the global rom doesn't have them because people outside of China don't use those apps.

westerners use whatsapp. the Chinese use wechat which has more users than face books whatsapp, we use eBay they use Taobao . next biggest market, for them is India hence global rom.

it good to take in interest in the culture of your future landlord.

        • :-)

        • Hope xioamo are sold through a distributor in Australia one day like other mainstream chinese brands.

        • +2

don't need to root, load global rom … it's available on their web site ….. it's not malware, the chinese version comes with their popular apps made for chinese market. One person malware is another person popular app….. depending if you need it or not or understand chinese or not. They even ship 2 versions, one is chinese version with the extra apps we australians don't understand and the other is the global version without those apps we don't understand …. same phone and can be reflashed to either versions without rooting.

For a consumer in china to get a phone with Facebook preloaded would think WTF is this malware …. yet in the west Facebook integration is a selling point.

        • @garage sale: who in China wants adds on their phone?

        • @itzinfinite: Nah not blaming Xiaomi at all. From my understanding it's the the resellers that do it.

@garage sale: I'm aware of all those China apps that they use as alternatives to what we use: RenRenWang (Facebook), Weibo (Twitter), Taobao (eBay), Tudou (YouTube). These are not those apps. Btw, it's not even that they're "not into" them. Some (all?) of those "Western" equivalent apps aren't even accessible in China without VPN, so I wouldn't be surprised if half of the population over there aren't even aware they're using a China-specific equivalent of the "global" version.

The phone did not come with any of them installed.. it was stuff to "optimise" your usage through giving you a better browser than Chrome/default Browser (CNBrowser? though I don't know what Browser they often use in China), a download accelerator (Accelerator?) and something to "clean" rubbish on your phone (CleanMaster) and another app to boost the speed of your phone (BUBooster?). Definitely nothing to do with them using WeChat vs Whatsapp, Weibo vs Twitter, Taobao vs eBay or RenRenWang vs Facebook.

So I don't quite agree with you saying it's "not malware" because it's not RenRenWang, Weibo, Taobao or Tudou that come pre-installed.

    • +2

xiaomi and many manufacturers do not unlock the bootloader at all.

xiaomi specifically do not most of the time because they dont want these chinese resellers reflashing all their stock with virus filled crap more than already happens, that and mediatek dont really release source code

what specifically do YOU need to unlock your bootloader for? or just another person crying for no reason for some feature you never need in the first place ?

      • +2

Xiaomi only started locking bootloaders on phones released at the end of 2015 from what i read, and they will unlock it upon request but this is a long process.
as for why i want it unlocked - install custom recovery and facilitate management of flashing non miui ROM including backup and root access from the phone itself.

i understand this isn't the the need for everyone but when you only have limited space on the phone removal of unused apps at are in both the global and chinese roms is an advantage, though the pro model here does support sd card if you use nano sim so requirement not as high if you dont mind the makers of these apps having google like access to collect your data.

    • @881jz

you are asking too much from a budget phone that was designed for the Chinese market inside China.
      - you are asking for something 99.99% of buyers won't ever need.
      - what else do you want xiaomi to give you? $1 Million dollars and the source code?

      • if you don't like the stock ROM, flash it with a custom ROM. you don't need bootloader access for that.
      • if you want more internal space for apps, then buy the 32GB version instead of trying to save a few MBytes.
      • if you want pure Android, please don't buy this phone, please buy a google nexus phone.
      • if pure Android isn't enough, and you want the phone to behave exactly the way you want it, why don't you build one yourself?

I suspect you are not a pessimist weirdo who complains about everything. But rather, you are one of those dodgy resellers who wants access to the bootloader so you can add your own crap to it. I would rather Xiaomi lock up the bootloader to prevent people like you screwing it up.

  • If only this phone supported the 700 Mhz bands for 4G..

    • +1

I like xioami phones and the only gripe is lack of 700mhz….. and 700mhz is where the carriers are putting their rollout efforts. Telstra paid $650m for the spectrum, Optus got their 700mhz slice cheaper but also less of it and both are rolling it out so people get better coverage inside buildings (goes through walls better).

    2GB/16GB version is not PRO.

Snapdragon 650 chipset version is for Indian market which launched on 03.03.16 & available to buy from 09.03.16.

    • How much cost there? Found it.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 starts at Rs. 9,999 ($150) for the base 2GB+16GB variant, while the 3GB+32GB variants will be available for Rs. 11,999 ($179).

      • Great, will grab one from New Delhi.

        • You can't. You have to register for sale. It won't be available to despatch until certain date.

Any reps here? Can your guarantee no spyware or popup ads?

Geekbuying has it for US$196. Apply 5% xiaomifans discount code to bring it down to US$186.16. Shipping it via TNT is only USD2.50. I would say this would be end up cheaper delivered via courier. Items are on pre-sell for 10/03 availability, so no idea which site can ship it sooner.

To guarantee no spyware, I'd just flash it with the latest official MIUI global rom once it becomes available.

edited: don't forget possible 3.2% cashrewards

    • . Apply 5% xiaomifans discount code

where would i find this code mate?

      or is xiaomifans the code?

      • xiaomifans is the code, you need to be logged in to use it.

    • Can you link to where you found it for $196 on Geekbuying? It says $199.99 for me.

Also, where is the option for TNT shipping?

      • prices have increased. I actually got in while it was still $189 (mid Feb) prior to discount.

However, I did miss out on the stronger AU and forgot to use Cashrewards. =P

        • I forgot cashrewards too. :(

        • any issues dealing with them?

im close to pulling the trigger. 16gb is like 242+cashrewards
          32gb is like 298+cashrewards

        • @imtahir7:

users were experiencing issues with Geekbuying not able to deliver on the pre-order price. but stocks should be available now. shipping was fast too with TNT taking 3 days to ship to Sydney.

it charges me $282.85 on check out, not $265.50? is there something I am doing wrong?

      Hi Keen Bargain Hunter,

Is there anything I could do for you?
If you have made this order at AU $285.85,pls PM me your order number,I can apply price difference refund for you.

      Have a lovely weekend!

      Becky

      • Hi , I bought the xiaomi 16 GB Note 3 pro, thinking it's PRO from the website in the OP, but looks like it is not.
Looks like it is Note 3 version , not the PRO.
This is NOT GOOD, as your web site suggests that it is. I paid the PRO price for just Note 3.

        • Hi grimDazzle,

          Sorry for this inconvenience,
Could you pls PM me your order number for checking?

          Becky

        • @everbuying:
sorry, my mistake. It happened to be PRO. :) Thanks.

        • @grimDazzle:

          =^_^=

  • I bought the redmi note 3 32GB, 3GB RAM version for around $290 delivered a month ago (from eglobal). Very happy with it.

Is there a global ROM for this model yet?

    • Is the battery removable like note 2?

      • No. You gain metal body, extra RAM and fingerprint scanner. You lose removeable battery and SD card slot.

        • It still has an SD card slot as part of the SIM tray. The nano-sim slot doubles as a TF slot.

    • Yes, there is. It's the MIUI 7 Global Stable ROM V7.1.7.0.LHOMICL for Redmi Note 3
      http://en.miui.com/thread-242026-1-1.html

  • ~AUD 200 in India if you have any family or friends living there.

    http://www.amazon.in/b?ie=UTF8&node=9276261031&ref=spkm_0_0_…

    • Any idea if it could be posted from india by some friend?

      • Yes I don't see any problem.. Recently got an electronics item delivered from India, arrived in 2 weeks via Registered speedpost.

  • When I go to purchase it says the product is AUD $313.75?

    • did u apply the coupon? i just tried and it still works

      • +1

Sorry - just applied and it works fine. Comes to $268.85 AUD :)

  • So what's the difference between Redmi Note 3 Pro and Redmi Note 3 Prime? Thanks.

    • Pro / Prime has the snapdragon 650 + 16MP rear camera - either 2 GB / 16 GB or 3 GB / 32GB
      Non-pro has MTK processor + 13MP rear camera - again either 2 GB / 16 GB or 3 GB / 32 GB

so there's no difference between pro and prime

      • OK … that's confusing to use two different names for the same product. Maybe geographical? I mean in some countries it is marketed as Prime and as Pro in some other countries?

  • Hi Everyone! I am such a noob when it comes to the specs but I need a new phone to do things! My S3 is crashing :(

What is "flashing" a ROM? and is this a decent phone for everyday use?

edit: Does this support Micro SD cards? 16gb is a bit too slim for me

  • Decent deal, but desperately needs to include the 3gb/32gb edition. Can @becky come up with something to beat Geekbuying's $316 (delivered with TNT)? Thanks!

  • Will that code work on the 32GB model?

    • no, it won't

  • The price now drops to around AUD$249. But when it comes to making payment, PayPal charges in USD$186.
How much does PayPal charge in currency conversion? Is it possible to pay in AUD?

    • You can change the currency on the top of the website to AUD and checkout from there.

      • Yes, I did change the currency on the Everbuying site to the AUD and it shows A$249. But when I checkout on the PayPal page it reverts back to USD.

  • +1

Just bought this - it was down to $230 now… getting cheaper and cheaper!

  • Mine just arrived yesterday. Am very surprised just how good it is. Thanks guys!

  • cheapest price on this one atm? seems geekbuying with xiaomifans code and TNT shipping is ~$233 USD for me…

small question, why is the slightly older redmi note 3 released nov/dec generally a bit more than this one? is the only difference the CPU? and is the new snapdragon 650 significantly improved?

  • I just saw the Redmi Note 3 with 3gb /32gb with Snapdragon 650 CPU/ fingerprint scanner/ 4050 mh battery for $238 AUD ( = 12,000 INR) at Xiomi's Indian online outlet. http://www.mi.com/in/note3 DHL will deliver this to Australia in 3-5 days for less than $40 AUD.
So total landed will be $278 from the manufacturer. Before I buy, can someone advise/comment?

    • they're sold out, you havta get in on the weekly flash sales..

aside from that, do they actually ship to australia? or are you talking about a third party sending via DHL?

      • Thanks autolux. After I registered on the website I received an email which said the sale will begin on 18th March. One of my Aussie friends working in Bangalore, India will get the delivery and then send it by DHL. Is there any cheaper or better way of buying this particular phone?

        • +2

not if you have a friend in india or china at the source to avoid middleman sellers. lucky you!

        • have you ordered one of these phones?

        • +1

@altomic: Yes. I got the Xiomi Redmi Note3 Pro Gold 3gb/32gb from India. It cost me AUD $264.

  • Global ROM released for this! Check out redmi note 3 qualcomm global rom
    http://en.miui.com/download-301.html

  • Btw, mine did not come with bloatware that I'm aware of :)

  • I found this post by way of searching Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and noticed previous posts were better than this deal, such as $275 for 32GB version (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-3)

I looked on gsmarena and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 are missing a lot of bands, are missing bands concerning to anyone? (http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_3-7862.php)

    • That's for the Non-pro version which use MTK chips. This is the pro version that use Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. Also the link u provided lead to "Xiaomi Redmi 3" on gsmarena where this is "Xiaomi Redmi Note 3".

  • Hi guys,
Looking to buy a Redmi Note 3 (3GB version) - Are these phones good? I have seen really good reviews, and some not so good reviews.. so I'm a little torn between whether I should get one or not.
Can anyone comment on how good these are

    Thanks guys.

(Sorry to hijack your post OP - I did make my own thread, but didn't get much responses in terms of the Redmi Notes)

    • Yep awesome phone. Almost flagship quality (except for camera).

  • Just be wary of expedited shipping.. they are not all the same .. Its not very expedited .. I ordered the xiaomi Yi wifi cam and a couple of smart watches from everbuying and paid extra for expedited shipping .
Still waiting ..Got a message saying that item is shipped on the 15th … todays status still "Awaiting collection".. it has been since the 15th of April..
