New Amaysim Unlimited 28-Day Plans: 1.5GB $24.90, 3GB $29.90, 7GB $39.90 + Unlimited International Calls to 10 Countries

971

Just received an email this morning. This changes makes this plan even sweeter despite the plan expiry reducing to 28 days.

Can't seem to find a link directly to their website with this info through mobile.

Here's the info from the email:

we just want to let you know about some upcoming changes to your unlimited plan.

Your included data will be increasing from 5GB to 7GB. Plus, we've added unlimited standard international calls to 10 selected countries to your plan.

As well as this, plan expiry will be changing from 30 days to 28 days. You’ll still pay $39.90 per renewal and all your other inclusions will stay the same.

You don’t need to do a thing. These changes will take effect on [renewals from] 31 March, 2016

What are the 10 selected countries?
China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, NZ, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, UK and USA.

Referral program seems to have been shelved (for now?)

Interesting. I got the same email but it refers to my 5GB $44.90 per month plan. Not that it really matters because the original plan was started on a 3 month Groupon and then there are a stack of recharges from the 50% off Woolworths deal from last year.

    • I too started off on the 3 month Groupon deal and haven't run that out yet as only activated it at the end of December. Interesting that they didn't provide an even greater inclusion to the higher plan.

    • Still running on the Woolworths vouchers too. 6 more months to go.

Unfortunately They took away the 300 intl. minutes now. :(

      • +1

My email says unlimited international standard call to their top 10 countries and also 300 mins to other selected countries.

        • Thanks for the info.

I only went by the info given in the link above.

  • +1

Around the $40 mark most providers now have unlimited calls except telstra who are still on the $1000 calls at $1 per minute.

It's getting harder for them to differentiate except for data.

    • Telstra provide better coverage for FIFO workers in WA. Besides that i see no benefit from their overpriced packages.

      • +2

Telstra in general have more coverage on their service, you pay more because you will get better coverage in most cases.

Fair tradeoff for most, Ive always reccomended it for business users for that reason alone.

For personal use, Id be lucky to use 20 minutes a month on my mobile, and I have unlimited through amaysim, data is my only limit.

      • we used to have voda, but their call quality for international was sub par.

Telstra is great and we had no issues with optus (virgin) either.

    • +4

Telstra have an unlimited plan for $40 (Freedom plus) with 6GB of data which is better value IMO.

      • Is it available prepaid or only postpaid?

        • It's a prepaid plan :)

        • @TheVoucherKing:

Any international calls, I need that. Have been paying $45 for 5GB and 300 minutes international and unlimited local with Amaysim.

        • @CLoSeR:

I'm on the freedom plus as well. You get $350 per 28 days for international calls. Remaining international credit and data get rolled over to the next month and is utilised before eating into that month's cap. Keep in mind the Telstra expiry is also only for 28 days.

Also, if you are planning to travel, the top up credit rolls over so after a while you can use that for roaming.

      • +3

It's not 6Gb of data though, at least not in the traditional sense. It’s 3Gb “anytime”, and then 3Gb “bonus night time”. I use Wifi at home at night, so this plan is effectively 3Gb only for me.

        • Yep, otherwise the 7gb plan from Amaysim seems like it's better value.

  • +4

    Unlimited 1GB - $24.90 —> Unlimited 1.5GB

    Unlimited 2GB - $29.90 —> Unlimited 3GB

    • How do I switch? Have tried calling through and I keep getting recorded message options while I'm locked out of my account. Their tech support is so overwhelmed they hung up on me before they transferred me through. This is the biggest joke!!!!!

      • +1

You simply need to recharge from 01/04 (or whenever you do your next recharge after this date) and you will be automatically upgraded if you are a customer already

        • Yes I am already a customer on post paid plan. Managed to get them via online chat although even that took 20 minutes. They couldn't unlock my account and told me to wait an hour. Decided to upgrade the plan instead for an extra $10 I got an extra 3 GB rather than 1GB.

  • +4

just a quick question … does the unlimited calls to 10 countries include landlines and mobiles?

    • +1

Depends on country. Countries like USA, India, China don't differentiate so it will be same but not sure about UK?

      • Any idea about a Thai mobile?

    • +4

I just saw confirmation from Amaysim on their Facebook page that the unlimited to 10 countries includes landlines and mobiles.

Same as it has been for those of us with 300 minutes international calls.

  • yeepiieee! Thanks Sylon.. I better get to Telstra and cancel my bundle international pack then after 31st March

  • +25

reducing the plan to 28 days means you will be paying $35 extra per year

With the $35, you could buy 7 Telstra or optus $30 packs when they go on special at woolworths for $5 . This means more free $30 google play store credit, or more $2 optus data days

im happy to stay on my 30 day plan and save the $35 to add more eneloops or microSD cards to my collection

    • +4

im happy to stay on my 30 day plan and save the $35 to add more eneloops or microSD cards to my collection

Yeah, too bad you don't have the choice.
      No more eneloops for you!

      • +3

Probably a strategy they are using to increase there profit margin after the drop in the share price to ~ $1.50

That's amaysim being reactive and not proactive

$35 per year X 800'000 customers = $28M per year profit into the hands of investors

What next? When the share price falls again you will get an email saying that they are increasing the plans by $2

        • Yep. I guess this means they are staying with Optus too. No talk of new SIM's being required.

        • +3

          @Flyerone:

Im glad they are staying with optus.

        • +1

=28m revenue. Profit is probably half that

        • @perthite:
In theory the incremental revenue should flow straight to the bottom line here (I.e. Profit). The costs won't change as they are still providing the same amount of days coverage, etc and so it should mostly be profit. Realistically only things like transaction costs should come out of the extra revenue.

        • @perthite: Yup. They've only discussed the extra cost - Not the extra service recived for it (which has a wholesale cost).

    • +14

"im happy to stay on my 30 day plan and save the $35 to add more eneloops or microSD cards to my collection"

      That's pretending EC,
you have about 7 million dollars in referral credits so you wont be spending any real money for many, many years. ;)

      • +1

Haha woops, I just realised I posted the exact same thing. I loaded the page earlier but didn't comment until now. We know the truth ;)

    • +6

im happy to stay on my 30 day plan and save the $35 to add more eneloops or microSD cards to my collection

I'm pretty sure you won't need to spend a cent on a phone plan for the next 23 years with that amount of referral credit you have accumulated ;)

    • +20

$34.68 extra for 30.42GB extra… I don't mind that too much…it's funny how you try to undermine every single amaysim post that isn't yours.

Though OP should still update title to reflect the change, tad misleading otherwise.

      • +5

        $34.68 extra for 30.42GB extra… I don't mind that too much

That's great if you would be using it. If you only use 3-5GB a month though, it's is extra expense for no return. Granted it isn't that much of an increase, but a price hike all the same.

        • +9

          UNLIMITED 2GB becomes UNLIMITED 3GB - $29.90

If you rarely hit 5GB, it's a good idea in my opinion to try to manage with 3GB in the new unlimited 3GB plan, saving $95.68 per year by downgrading.

        • +1

@lyl: Yep. I'll be doing exactly that.

        • Adjust usage habits. We'll be drkpping back to 1.5GB, making a $ saving.

          It's all positive.

  • +1

What do these changes mean for me?
You’ll have more data to use over a shorter period of time, since your plan will renew two days earlier than usual.

So we are actually doing you a favour! Don't worry about the extra $35 a year.
It seems the gap between a little data use and more than enough has moved from 1.5-2GB - 5GB to 3GB - 7GB if you fall just above the 3GB they've got you, money for jam.

  • +3

28 Day expiry sucks, My parents never get close to the data limit but now they'll lose 24 days a year.

    • So move them down to the 24.90 plan and they will actually save money.

NVM. I forgot it was already a plan.

Also, Amaysim now owns Vaya. Move them to the $18 Vaya plan.

    • 29.

  • Wow I literally had the Optus 7gb sim plan in my cart and read this before ditching amaysim. Glad I hesitated.

    • Im on the 5GB PLUS plan for $45, nearly switched to Optus plan for $40 for 7GB data last week. I hesitated due to there being a 12 month contract requirement.

      Prefer prepaid; glad I waited.

      • Unless your using the international calls you may as well save 5 and change to the unlimited 4g instead of unlimited 4g plus

        • I was using them, but I'll still drop to the $40 plan as the countries I call are in the list of 10.

    • I think for me because I get 10GB for $34 with optus, none of the new amaysim plans attract me.

  • +2

UNLIMITED 1GB becomes UNLIMITED 1.5GB - $24.90 —> This will work good for me… I use less data and more international calls.. I could not find any plan that gives free international calls at that price.. Will switch as soon as my voda offer of 6 months $40/month plan at $25/month finishes. Cheers!!

Complete detail is on their website now:

UNLIMITED plans get even more data

Our range of UNLIMITED mobile plans are already packed with unlimited standard calls and SMS for use Australia-wide, and we're making changes to give you even more data.
From 31 March 2016 all of our UNLIMITED plans will come with additional data. Plan expiry will also be changing from 30 days to 28 days on your first renewal from 31 March 2016.

    Data increases are as follows:
    * UNLIMITED 1GB becomes UNLIMITED 1.5GB - $24.90
    * UNLIMITED 2GB becomes UNLIMITED 3GB - $29.90
    * UNLIMITED 5GB becomes UNLIMITED 7GB – $39.90
    * UNLIMITED 5GB Plus becomes UNLIMITED 7GB Plus - $44.90
    * UNLIMITED 8GB becomes UNLIMITED 9GB - $49.90

All of our UNLIMITED plans will also get unlimited standard calls to our top 10 countries: China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom. You’ll continue to get unlimited standard texts to 32 countries.

If I join now, do I still get the new plan?
Yes, the above changes will apply to all customers on their first plan renewal from 31 March 2016. All other plan inclusions will stay the same.

I’m already with amaysim, do I still get the new plan?
Yes, you’ll automatically get your new plan on your first renewal from 31 March 2016. See your email for more information.

  • 'Unlimited Standard Calls' for international does that translate to unlimited mobile?

    • I'm on their grandfathered $44.90 plan with 5GB and 300 minutes of international calls to selected countries.

It certainly included calls to international mobiles in these minutes, called NZ mobile many times.

My plan is bumping to 7GB with unlimited calls to 10 countries plus 300 minutes to selected additional countries.

I'll prob drop back to the $39.90 plan as the countries I call are in the list of 10.

    • Yes it does, confirmed Amaysim Facebook.

  • +4

You are paying for that extra data weather you like it or not!
    Its all marketing!
By shortening the plan days from 30 to 28, you will pay for an extra month a year.
So instead of keeping the 44.90 plan with 5 gig and offering a $49 plan with 7 gig, they just move everyone to the $49 plan without giving them an option, and making everyone pay more.

Don't like the way Amaysim is operating, they are going shifty….

    • Agreed, reason I left them back in 2014 when they tried to up the $39.90 plan $5 more a month for an extra 1GB data many people wouldn't use when they already had 4GB included.

      • may i ask who you are with? i wanna join

      • And many are making use of that extra data.

    • +1

That's right, the 28 days renewal is the gotcha that few people realise.
You end up having to recharge 13x in a year due to the 28 days.
it's like you are paying 13 "months"

  • +1

Also noticed this written at the top of their homepage
" From 31 March our UNLIMITED plans will come with even more data, and the plans will auto renew every 28 days instead of every 30 days. "

Just to keep this in mind, as I was last with Lebara (Vodafone) and they renewed every 30 days and chose them over Amaysim for the better signal in my area compared to Amaysim (Optus)and similar value - I have been with either for long term until now.

  • You can use hot spot to utilize that bandwidth to improve your browsing experience on your PC.

Use Forcebindip to bind 4G connection to your browser while torrents go through the default Windows gateway.

  • so this is why amaysim were offering new customer promos to get everyone onto amaysim to instigate the 2-day expiry reduction?

    • -1

Customers can leave at anytime; I fail to see where anyone is trapped?

      • the 'trapped' conclusion wasnt reasoned by me.

'like it or leave it' principle actually deliberately disregards the commitment to service provision, and intentionally disregards customer satisfaction.

the point i made is the observation of a poor and misdirecting strategy to attempt to get some money out of customers. the amount of money they've discounted needs to be made up with the extra recharge each year for 800k accounts ($28M). now the discounts they've sacrificed, how long before they have return on investment? will they have to invest in more discounts each year to misdirect more customers into amaysim?

if anything i think customers and investors are going to blame the marketing executives and directors for bringing amaysim this way.

customers are people, and people want a service provider that's trustworthy and people-focused. love people and use money, rather than love money and use people.

        • Why would an ozbargainer pay full price recharge? ;)

    • +4

Nah, they run (and continue to run) those promotions because they need to show their shareholders customer growth.

Problem is, shareholders don't only care about customer growth, they also care about how much each customer is worth.

Amaysim is trying to increase ARPU (average revenue per user) by 7.14% by changing from 30 day to 28 day renewal.

But at the same time they need to convince users that they are not getting bummed an extra 7.14%, so they threw in data upgrades and unlimited calls to 10 countries.

In a perfect world for Amaysim, most users won't actually use any of the extra allowances (because they were already happy with what they had). And if you pay attention you'll note the data upgrades are usually done so that you can't jump down a tier without giving up some data, as that would mean Amaysim loses revenue.

Overall the changes are designed to increase revenue (by roughly 7%), whilst keeping costs roughly the same (most users won't use the additional allowances), thereby increasing profitability.

The risk for Amaysim is whether customers realise what is going on, and comparing across MVNOs, Amaysim is the only provider doing 28 day cycles right now.

      • +1

I think Amaysim are simply trying to compete with better offerings from Optus and Telstra that currently exist.

I was about to switch to the Optus 7GB plan for $40 with the same unlimited local and 300 minutes of international calls.

Amaysim have simply aligned their plans to provide better value.

        • +1

You're right, the offers are still overall competitive. It's just annoying for existing customers to fork over an extra 25 days worth of fees each year.

Also, part of the strategy in throwing in the free calling to 10 countries is to play on peoples fear of loss[1].

This won't be a problem for most OzBargainers but the trick is that they throw in stuff many people won't use because even though they don't use it, they will still feel like they are "losing" something if they switch to another provider.

          [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_aversion

        • @goosmurf: Useful point, very applicable psychology, I should have up-voted when I had the chance

  • +1

i'm curious why the original post has been reported 3 times already?

    • Whingers galore

  • +2

Best thing about these plans is those who don't need the extra data can save by dropping back a level!

  • had plenty of amaysim recharges stocked up from the last coles deal, can't do much aside from use up the additional data. looks like i'll be spending more time streaming off di.fm!

  • with the 1.5gb plan can you still make free international calls?

  • This is a good deal. But I guess I will be sticking with my 26$ 45 days woolworths (now defunct) mobile plan with 5GB data. since I dont make lot of calls and use Voip facilities to make international call.

    • Great data on that plan, only problem is you're restricted to 3G.

  • I'm on the Optus Pre-Paid Cap.
$26 gets: 5G data, $30 Credit, $220 Bonus Credit, $250 Optus Credit and 45 days expiry.
Only issue is plan is locked to 3G network so no 4G speed for me.
Haven't found an equal plan for data and length of expiry yet.

    • Isn't that a legacy Woolworths Mobile plan?

      • Yes I forgot to mention that and I see carlJack had already beaten me to the punch. My first comment since jumping on OZB rookie mistake.

  • +2

They've cut the inclusion period by 6.66% but raised data by 50%, 50%, 40% so it's a win for consumers.

It's just that it may not be a win for all current amaysim customers. The way I see it, they are going for a new target market.

Previously it was people who perceived value at $24.90, $29.90, $39.90 / month

Now it will be customers who are prepared to pay $26.68, $32.04 and $42.75 / month.

People who are struggling to keep under the previous data inclusions win, people who had sufficient data will "lose"

    • +1

Thanks for the breakdown. Good points.

For my wife & I, it's prepaid… so quite simply "meh, who cares" in relation to negatives. We can downgrade/leave any time we like. At this point, I can never see that happening. Amaysim have been crazy good.

I destroy data on ADSL/NBN, at home.
But on mobile we were always chained by 1GB (Vodafone).
Now we have 2GB, we're always well-under it, and have good usage habits.

3GB is really too much data for us. Hammering everything by youtube, I hit 1.75GB last month.
We'll be dropping-back to 1.5GB for sure, even if it's only a $5 saving each.
It's not even an adjustment in usage, and that's $10 better spent elsewhere.

    • Yep, hard to stay under my 5GB.. Gimme more!~

  • How does this hold up compared to the Telstra family and friends deal awhile back? Being Telstra coverage and data speeds in regional areas?

  • Referral is down right now :(

    • No wayyyy…

  • Hmm.. I pay $19.90/month, and only get 500mb included for data. Does this deal relate to me or am I on something else? Not much of a phone tech..

  • +2

The 28 day thing is a bit of a slap in the face, I'm not going to neg this deal as it probably suits many people. But after some average customer service and unusual invoicing, I'm going to port out to another Optus reseller, or even Optus themselves for a bit. One advantage with Optus is the data rollover as I seem to have a few quiet months on usage, so putting some data away for a higher usage month is a plus.

    • Yep, no + for me with the shifty 28 day schemes these guys are trying to pull. A month is a month, none of this smoke and mirrors shyte for me.

  • What happens if you're on that TPG port deal, 6 months for $29.90 (5 months free)? Do you stay on 30 days?

    • Not clear … when you log in, there's a page that says what date the promo period expires. Need to check it again after the 31st March.

  • I am joining Amaysim… can anyone share your referral code? we both will get 10$

  • Ultimately, will joining now or >31/3 matter?

  • Amaysim has the best customer service rating amongst the big telcos according to productreview.com which mostly consist of complaints by angry customers.

    • Amaysim customer service has always been great, was sad to leave them.

  • so if a join now, when does payment actually start? does it start when I activate the sim once I receive?

    • Yes.

  • That's next-level crazy for those who make international calls.

I may still go for a Vaya plan, at ~$18/monthly (1st 6 months) for Unlimited local calls with 1.5GB as I don't need international calls.
