GoPro Hero 4 Silver $439 (after 20% off) @ DickSmith (in-store)

80

Walked into DSE at Chadstone SC today and saw this deal: Gopro Hero 4 Silver for 20% off the original price, which has gone down to 439$ atm. I'd say limited stock so better check with your local DSE. Quite decent (not the best though) price on such a product that hardly has had a discount. This Gopro can shoot 4K and has a swappable batttery, along side with a built-in touch screen which is easy for navigation.

Below $370 is the best deal.

After paying $320 for mine last year, this price felt expensive.

That's right. I got it less than $280 last year via eBay plus voucher code and 10% saving by TRS.

In reality a saving of around 10% https://www.camerasky.com.au/gopro-hero-4-silver-edition-dig… seems a pretty standard price IMO. All these Dick deals that are "20% off" seem to be standard market price and on occasion more expensive. Not sure whether to limit them to one post unless there is a huge (real) bargain on a product. All we are doing is giving free publicity to vulture receivers selling stock at inflated or fair value. I do admit any discounts on Apple or GoPro seem to be rare (current models) so even 5-10% could be classified as a "bargain". But given the lack of store returns policy there are definite tradeoffs.

    • wow camerasky is selling it for 280! with around ~28 registered shipped! too good to be true? read some reviews of the store and they aren't filling me with confidence to order it. Too good to be true scenario?

dicksmith's price is still too high for me to finally get a gopro xD.

      • I was in the same position. Saw that CameraSky's prices were very cheap for the Hero4 Silver but then I read all the horror stories over the internet, specifically the Whirlpool forums.

Sure even though the transaction is protected by Paypal, I would rather not like to go through the trouble of disputing the case for months on end if something went wrong… which it likely would have.

I just ended up buying the Hero4 Silver for $429 from Surfstitch's ebay store after.

        • Still better than buying online from Dick who have had customers on here unable to collect items as website displayed stock which wasn't available. Use credit card for chargeback, insurance option if there is any and PayPal. The fact you were able to buy from Surfstitch which is still solvent and offers buyer return protection cheaper than this Dick Smith deal (when in liquidation) indicates how poor these so called "bargains" are. Unless something is significantly below the market price all these "20% off" items which cost hundreds of dollars still are the same price as competitors (as they were already highly inflated) or a little more or a little less ($20 off woo! But no right to return to store if defective and from Dick). The phone deals, GoPro deals, drone deals are hardly bargains and are polluting the OzB deal feed. Just free publicity to overpaid liquidators, guzzling up money in admin fees while those with gift cards are unsecured in the cold. Let's hold out until they are forced to drop down inventory to cost, or at least "bargain" levels. Not sure how meaty the margins are on these cameras (apparently not much but probably higher than Apple products) but each unit would be sold for at least cost (retailer) plus around 50-100 on top (at around $440 price point). These receivers must be kicking themselves. Also hit and miss with Camera Sky - they seem to be operating largely without stock on hand so large wholesale orders need to be made and when you have ordered and no stock is going to be ordered for CS for another few weeks you are left in the lurch effectively. For every horror story on the product review site there seemed to be praise so results will vary. I would take a chance if I was in the market for a GoPro as it is I am looking for a laptop I just commented here because I find $440 for a liquidation underwhelming. I would neg as I don't believe it's a deal (along with the phone deal Trent just posted and all the drone deals) but often I get too much slack from OPs and comment downvotes. Also have more faith with Camera Sky than using click and collect or online payment to Dick (who is much less reputable now).

        • When was the hero4 silver $429 at surfsitch?

        • @juzz0:

          what?

I'd recommend buying these used on ebay, people always buy the gopro and a bunch of mounts then realise they don't do anything that requires a gopro

  • No wonder DICKsmith close down…

  • Reckon JB will price match? Can't seem to locate much stock.

    • I can upload the receipt for you but I doubt that JB will do it.

  • They are $500 at Pushys.com.au - http://www.pushys.com.au/gopro-hero4-silver-now-in-stock.htm…

That is the cheapest I can find from an Australian retailer that can have it to my door before heading overseas next week… any cheaper options out there?

TRS refund will bring it down to around $460 but will that apply after I purchased a compact cam from Teds Camera House? They have the GoPro for $569 from memory.

  • $329 instore only if you can find one, ends today
