Could we get the list of exclusions like a true DSE deal? ;)

  • +12

50% off the RRP of phone/tablet cover/cases. Still 10 times more expensive than the price on eBay.

Who the heck buys overpriced phone cases from a retail electronics store?? I guess no one is the answer…thus the discount.

    • +1

Harvey norman! he wants to buy the dick smith branded move accessories for mobile LOL he reckon its a great idea and is getting great sales! prolly cause the items are like 1 cent chinese branded crappy items sold for 29.99

  • +11

Even with Dick's demise they still can't get a decent sale going… they STILL haven't learned.

    • +3

I think the receivers are fairly knowledgeable and understand that the generated press/media from the winding up would increase foot traffic and general sales from average joes and clueless families who see percentages rather than actual prices.

Don't worry, the good prices are coming soon, just wait out the normies.

Ozbargainers know that no product will increase in price during the closure process, so the best time to buy would be the day before your local store closes.

Predicting when that store closes will be the difficulty.

It's not as simple as until the store becomes bare bones, because DSE has the option of selling to say Grays etc.

      Good luck all

      • Gray's ain't exactly that cheap either!

      • Would have to agree, I'm guessing its one of those "make the media boost sales" added with the whole as price go's down stock go's down so say you wait until product is 75 percent off, you might not find the merchandise available then if it was only 50 percent off sort of thing. So its sort of a gamble whether to wait for better sales and potentially no stock or not.

      • How on earth did you find that? I read that same article the other day and didn't pick it up.

        I feel very special :)

        • it's on front page of news.com.au right now :)

  • +1

No much of the complaint and I understand a lot of employees may/have lose/lost their jobs so that's why I tried to buy something from them. Overall, I am not very impressed with the selling strategies that DSE has offered.

I was walking into the DSE Northland last week and found a NutriBullet 600W blender set for $139 and I was thinking they have already made a heavy discount (of course they mentioned on the sticker). However, when I use my slow Vodafail network to do some of the research, I known that TGG was selling it for $141. What a bargain!

Also I walked into the DSE Bourke St store in January and I was interested in WeMo switch and the saleswoman told me they had it discounted so I paid $79 for that little switch. You know what? It was the same RRP from Belkin website!

I walked into their store yesterday and I could see there were more traffic in the store but people seemed struggled to find a "deal" - a female to female HDMI converter would cost you $12 - u kidding???

They had a lot of junk mail delivered to my email address since last year and I could foreseen the failure of bloated SALES they had made from last year.

    DSE, you've made it again!

    • +3

I hear you on the Blender.. we looked at the friut ninja one at Chadstone, wasnt interested in buying it just seeing what kind of price…it was $209 reduced from $249 or something, all sold so I asked the guy about discounting the display unit, he said that he couldnt sell it yet, maybe in a few weeks.. whatever… So then I did a search for a comparable price, first hit I got was Harvey with a price of $199… Hmmm not a very good deal despite the frenzy chaos going on in the store.

      • Interesting….

Has DSE learnt from Apple… full of people but not many people buy all the time? :-)

        • People actually buy from the Apple Store though..

  • +8

I'll wait for the 90% off sale.

When the $25 case becomes $2.50. What I expect to pay.

  • +1

Someone will post a deal tomorrow and get a crapload of downvotes. Don't do it guys!

  • +7

Our Dick Smith source sent us the following which has a little more information that above:

    Email Part 1
    Email Part 2

Sale starts Thursday though. Not Wednesday.

EDIT: Also, quite funny that staff must purchase red dots from petty cash. :)

  • Yawnn

Bring on the good stuff not this.

  • +3

The only thing that will get more sales are red dot stickers from Officeworks.

  • +4

I always preferred Tandy Electronics myself.

    • Ah the Realistic kit. Great memories.

  • +2

I went in to Kippa Ring DSE. For $49.99 you could buy a DSE discman. A portable CD player for $49.99!!!!

    • Was that in the 90's?

      • +2

  • Prices can only get lower, they need every sale they can get at this point.

I walked into DSE yesterday, all of the $29 iPhone cases were 30% off (yawn) and HDMI cables still floating around for $20 pfftt..
Hardly any headphones avail, not one camera in the store either.

Has anybody nabbed a good deal lately, TV, GPS, Phone, anything?

  • Slow discounting good for employees, as they keep their jobs for longer, and they are the biggest losers here.

Surprised receivers don't want to rush it a bit quicker, as employees get paid before other creditors, and the longer the stores stay open the more wages that will accumulate and less for other creditors…

Media hype also quickly lost, so expect it will be a quiet weekend for them based on this.

    • I am sure they know at what rate they need to liquidate stock to ensure the maximum return. They do do this for a living

  • Hoping they get their kicks with their slow discounting for a while and then get serious and give some real deals and go out with a bang!
Hoping to get a nice deal for 40-46 inch TV.

  • Wait till final days, massive sales, I hope

  • +1

They still have to pay creditors. I just don't see any of those awesome deals like prior to Christmas happening.

  • When the sale hits 75% or more, I'll be all over the West Melbourne stores.

  • So the items on special on the DSE website are now listed as ending on 11th March. So will this mean further discounts or back to full price from 12th March?

  • Any new leaks? We expecting 60% off Christmas stock next?

  • Are dicksmiths going to have a massive one day sale to clear all their stocks? Right now the sale is just a complete bullshit, none of the item such as smartphone, tv, laptop, or camera are in a good price. Anyone know when dicksmith close down all the stores?

    • Looks like it's a further 10% off each Thursday to some product category that is already way overpriced. Very little can be had at Dicks that you can't get get elsewhere without waiting for cheaper. If anchorage was the first public heist then this is surely the second.

I don't think anything will beat the pre xmas sale when Dick was still running it. So look out this Thursday for 70% off LCD TV cleaning solution or something.

      • But the min discount is still 20% each week, and most of electronic device only have 25% discount where the price has been jacked up. I'd rather see dicks increase the min discount, like 40% to 60% for all item would be good.

        • The problem is, stuff is selling at 20% off. Some stores are getting bare. It's sadly working so I doubt we will see any huge discounts until people stop buying at the current prices.

    • One store I visited today, all the decent smartphones including old Samsung S4 and iPhones were all sold out!

  • I went in for a genuine Samsung tablet case expecting 50% off, but it was only 30%. I ended up haggling with JB for about 15% off because they had my preferred colour.

  • I was in my local Camberwell store just before and apparently… Wednesday 23rd of March everything is on "super sale" not sure if just for Camberwell store or all. But…. might be worth another look, if anything is still available.

  • Need to take me some red stickers to DS!

  • 35% off Seagate Hard Drives is a steal, if you can find one in store.

  • Visited a couple dick smith stores lately.
Unless you're looking for the odd cable, phone case or store fixture they haven't much - although I did see some Logitech Harmony Remotes for about $30 (no screen).
Still not complaining about the dirt cheap obsolete but still very useful items I bought back in December :)

  • Merged from Dick Smith Fire Sale (Starts Saturday 3/4) 70% off TV/ Smartphones

Surrounding the recent news and headlines about the lack of flow of funds from these sales, Dick Smith will undergo another fire sale this weekend however the discounts are better. A friend of mine working at the department informed me of this and sent me the following file.

Expect big discount on all phones (if any available) with a minimum of 70% off. TV’s are a minimum of 70% off and electronic equipment i.e. cables, remotes etc. are a minimum of 85% off.

DEAL STARTS ON SATURDAY so don’t start hassling employees who prob haven’t been told about this yet and will receive this info today or tomorrow. STOCK LEVEL IS LOW so its basically first in wins.
He also informed me that TV adverts will prob show up on Friday so keep an eye out.
Will post more deals as we get closer to date.

    Happy bargaining

    • interesting deal.

May have to pop in and see if the discounts are good.

      • +1

There is nothing there except DickSmith TVS which are rubbish.

    • +1

      Lol "clearance" TVs.

    • there is nothing left in the stores

    • +3

**note the fine print clearance tvs*** = no stock waste of time

    • +1

Last Dick Smith sale listed on here with increased discounts ended up amounting to nothing.

    • +2

Good luck trying to get anything before the Dick employees get it first.

      • Because if you were a Dick Smith employee you wouldn't?

    • Appreciate the leak. Guessing some pricing might show up on the system the afternoon before, as did the Logitech 920 wheel yesterday (when the deals were supposed to commence today).

    • Saturday… so the 2nd of April, not the 3rd? Or Sunday?

    • +1

This doesn't make sense (not saying it's not true). A lot of stores with earlier closure have been increasing discounts by a further 5% - 10% than the website / normal price. Why go to the trouble of setting up extra discounts for certain stores when they are going to do a minimum of 70% off this Saturday for all stores? Seems like a lot of extra mucking around with the other stores for a couple of days. They are also consolidating stores so yes even with 70% off TV's and Phones (they will all go within the first day at that price, maybe a few DS brands left over) the rest of the items won't give shoppers much incentive if all that is left is Mobile phone covers and christmas lights.

But as I said, just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it won't happen.

    • Wait is it 70% off PREPAID smartphone or ALL smartphone in store?

      It makes a HUGE diff….

      APRIL FOOLS OZBARGAIN

This deal is not true.I made up the entire post.

      Till next year

      Ahly92

      • The really funny thing is my eyes glazed over the "85% of all phones" as I'm used to endless exclusions so doubted it would be any phones other than your two-three year old Lumias anyway. Also they are running a 70% sale on Saturday on prepaid and clearance TVs so post is half true.

      • +4
        1. You posted this before April Fools.
        2. You got the date wrong.
        3. There's only one fool and it's not April.
      • Announces joke sale day before April Fools, joke sale is to take place after April fools. Yep you win this year.

  • +1

Where are all the 'tech-xperts' going to go during the day since the the shelter will be closing soon?

  • +2

The Pre-Xmas sale at Dick Smith was infinitely better than anything that has come up during the official "liquidation sale".

There are still items in store that are far more expensive now than what they were selling at in December.

The only decent stuff left in store now are the kitchen appliances, yet, at only 35% off full manufacturers retail, you could find most of this cheaper elsewhere.

  • +1

The problem is that the sale price is not shown on the shelf. We have to ask the staff to check. That is really annoying.

  • 3rd april is Sunday. So does the sale start on Saturday or Sunday?

  • Btw any branch has oppo phones left in Sydney? Couldnt find any in cbd or local Dicksmith stores.

    • No oppo phones in Sydney and postcode from 2000-2300.

    • Ran into a couple of R7's today but there are better phones out there. Think they wanted $350 a piece…

      • Where about?

  • I've got $4000 in credit behind me… probably won't spend a cent, have my eye on a couple of items but will probably try to re-sell myself

    • willing to let go of $500-600 worth for $250-300?

      • +3

Either I don't understand the question or your on crack

        • well considering its hard to get rid of DS credit, their value is worth alot less if u tried to sell it
its only worth something if u intend to buy something from their abysmal sales and if u can find stock

so just asking if you wanted help getting some back from that $4000 in credit

if so ive been eyeing a coffee machine from them but after their discounts its still more expensive than most places. but if you were willing to sell your credit at a discount i can finally buy one

        • +1

@furythree: HELL NO!!! That $4000 credit was given to me by my bank to buy things to grow my tour company business. Not to buy coffee machines for you because you want to rip me off! Get stuffed!

        • @kronicmacstigator:

I'm so confused. Wouldn't the credit be unsecured debit?

        • @PainToad:
Simple. He has a Credit Card with credit available. He never said 'Dick Smith credit' or 'gift card' which seems to be the assumption that has been made - which PainToad is right would not be usable any more. Though I'm sure there are people who would sell furythree some dead Gift Card Credit from DS if thats what he wants but he won't get his coffee machine.

        • @Elijha: i had no idea DS gift cards are not useable anymore wtf

i thought ppl were just liquidating them because theres nothing to buy

theyre still in business why arent they accepting them?

        • @kronicmacstigator: Lol u made it sound like $4k in DS credit you didnt know what to do with. Didnt know u meant bank line of credit

        • @furythree:
"If the company operating the business has been liquidated, the new owner may have only purchased the assets of the business and is not obliged to honour existing gift cards or vouchers. In this situation, the consumer becomes an ‘unsecured creditor’ of the previous company." https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/shopping/refunds-and-returns…

        • @PainToad: Correct to an extent

  • Went to a few DSE stores in Sydney today to see what was left. As everybody has said earlier. All the good stuff has gone. Half empty stores with nothing much of interest other than mostly DSE products and stuff nobody wants.

Top Ryde refused to sell me the demo unit of an outdoor TV antenna on display when asked if I could buy. They just said come back tomorrow when the manager is back in store.

Although to my surprise I did manage to purchase the last Topfield 7170 1tb PVR (new) for $220.35 and Logitech Harmony 350 remote for $19.99 from the Roselands store.

    • any hdds in ryde or peripherals?

      • Nope had a look. From memory there weere some DSE keyboards logitech K125 and ms 800 keypoards and mouse combos but that about it from memory. No HDD

        • ugh, wouldve been awesome to get logitech or razer stuff for 50% off

  • Wonder if they are ever gonna increase those % for apple stuff.. 10% is like everyday sales

  • So is the 60% off clearance TVs real or an April fools day joke?
What is a 'clearance TV'? My local store at Albury (NSW) has a lot of TVs left, mainly DSE and a few large ones at 65" but also 4 x 40 inch JVC along with a few others. Are all TVs 'clearance TVs' or is it only the models that were previously discontinued?

    • +1

yeah '60% off clearance TV's' seems self referential (Which ones are Clearance - the ones with 60% off, which have 60% off - the clearance TV's'

  • Also interested to know if the Samsung 55" UHD screens are on the 60% sale tomorrow.(if it was even true)
Local store still has one in stock.

  • +1

Nothing available as part of the clearance at Launceston store (both TV and prepaid mobile phones).

    • Do you know what is included?

      • According to the staff I've spoken to, it's only for phased out items (so things that are not on the current website, etc)…

  • There was a TVC on Channel 9 during The Footy Show on Thursday advertising the 70%/60% clearance TVs and prepaid mobiles 'starts on Saturday'. So thinking this would be a big thing (as my local store has plenty of TVs left and all are being cleared) I headed down.

The employees knew nothing about the commercial or that today had any new discounts. They told me there was nothing on today so I left empty handed. What a Dick tease.

    • hahaha

      • There was an ad on TV, had nothing to do with your comment. It was not the 35-80% off ad they have been runnning for the past week, it was a different ad. I don't know why you are trying to troll. It did seem odd that they were doing it outside the usual fortnightly cycle of 5-10% discounting of crap (not laptops, TVs, phones) but your April fools had 85% off electronics etc. It was on the channel 9 offshoot 9life during the AFL footy show NSW rebroadcast around midnight on Thursday. IF anyone has recorded it go through the ads, sure it will be there. No mention of anything '85%' off.

  • lots of people yawning in Emporium & Bourke Street branch MEL CBD

maybe the sales will be limited now because Kogan has absorbed them.
