  • This brand any good? versus the likes of say bosch, ryobi ?

My main uses would be for jobs around the house, kitchen, backyard.

    • They used to make really good modular saw stations. Don't know about their drills though

I bought this same set a few months back for this price and the drills works well. It is solid and pretty grunty. Only criticism is the battery is low capacity so you only get about 30mins constant work out of it. Fine for your intended use. It also has a 3 year warranty with Triton if you register (each component). There is an AU distributor for warranty claims when Masters folds. The multi-tool has limited use more designed for cutting holes in plasterboard for sockets etc but I saw it as a freebie as the drill alone is great value. Recommended.

    • It should be top quality.

I got mine at Adelaide Airport Masters. There are 10% coupons around to bring the price even lower. When I went a couple weeks ago, there was an entire end cap filled with these. Just check the website for stock at your desired store.

I got mine via Click and Collect. Took half a day for them to alert me that it was ready for pickup.

The drill is quite good for doing work around the house. I think the build quality is excellent. The multi tool comes with only one blade so it's not practical without a bit of extra investment.
The battery is small so not great for big jobs, but it's got LED readout to show how much juice is left. I set up an IKEA shelf and it didn't even bring it to 3/4 power.

  • Is the multi tool useful?

    • I've always found that there one of those tools that you don't really need until you do, which unlike a cordless drill or impact driver that most people can envisage having some use for in many applications, a multi-tool seems somewhat secondary. They are actually very handy. For a multitude of applications, though mainly cutting. For instance, plasterboard and very small delicate timber cuts in window frames or doors, as well as grout removal. Also for cutting tricky PVC pipe jobs where a hacksaw is not a viable alternative. You could replace those tools with other hand tools, like chisels or small hacksaws but the multi-tool makes the job much easier and quicker.

The one only major drawback is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of good quality blades made for them, probably with the exception of the Diablo tools multi pack, but at $100 is quite pricey.

  • I haven't used any of these cordless Triton tools, but one important consideration would be that considering Masters is closing down, if you're on a low budget and are making an investment in these tools, then are you going to be able to get more of these tools to suit the batteries?

As far as cordless drills and multi-tools go this isn't a bad price by any means, and I'd expect that in some respects if you're only using the tools so often this could be a good option.

Otherwise Ryobi, from Bunnings, could be a more suitable option.

  • I picked up a set from the last time:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225079
As far as I know my local masters never stopped selling them at this price.

I have found the tools to be of good quality. I mainly use the drill as a secondary drill to save me changing bits (other drills are a Bosch blue 18v and 36v, dewalt, and an AEG…. Damn you OB for making me buy so many drills!). The multi tool is great, it's actually better than the older cordless Fein that I have. Have not wanted to use the Fein since.

  • Available at all Masters pending availability. I used it to drill a screw into a sandstone block. Seems decent quality and very good value for the price (drill alone is $129, battery $79, multi-tool $129 plus you also get a charger in this kit).

  • Has been at this price for a while. the drill is solid built. however the quick release interface ( head ?) of the multitools where the accessory is put on is not that widely found compare to the interface of other brands.
