Hi, I have an aldi pre-paid SIM. Any suggestions for a cheap, simple, reliable phone I could get for my son? Good battery life important, doesn't need to be a smart phone. Will only be used in emergencies/pickups etc.
Cheers.

ok being serious now, whats ur budget?
maybe around $50?
Woolies generally have a phone for $49, sometimes under at their front desk area
My daughter says all the parents who truly love their children in her class at school get them these.
I tell her my love extends to a Alcatel Pixi 3.
$18 at officeworks! and works on Aldi?
Needs $1.50 unlock code from ebay. Will work fine in the city, I think it misses the Telstra 3g/4g bands in the bush.
My daughter uses one on Telechoice which is the same network as ALDI and she is happy with it. Note there is a Pixi 3 v4 that has been $29 at Woolies that is the one she has, I think the $18 one might be the older version.
@mskeggs: great, thanks i'll check it out
The Alcatel only supports the Optus frequencies of 900 and 2100. You need a phone that supports 850 for telstra and Aldi. This will be even more important in December when Telstra turn off their 2g network.
Telstra do use 2100 in some areas, but you won't have a 2g network to drop back to where they don't.
Ok thanks, so the Telstra ZTE T815 would have to be ok then right?
@Densor:
My understanding is Telstra wholesalers (like ALDI) are getting 4G access by June ahead of the 2G turn off, presumably to ensure coverage is still available when the 2G is gone.

The Alcatel Pixi 4.5 should be fine as it supports 700MHz

3G Network: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G Network: 2100/1800/1900/2600/700 MHz
Any old nokia phone
Just get him 3210 and be done with it
Doubles as a weapon.
lol get him two of those and he can use it a nunchucks XD
Also, Get an Aldi $5 sim.
The credit lasts for 365 days.
Both my kids that have phones have this as they only use the phone to make calls/sms rarely.
They receive calls/sms and use wifi mainly.
why a smartphone? Does he need to play games via internet?
I said doesn't need to be a smart phone.
