it covers single, couple, family, single parent, for hospital or hospital & extras

  • it's not a bad option given prices will increase on 1 april

  • I was looking for private health insurance for couple, basic hospital and basic extra cover, let me know for the good one, thanks.

    • +1

      NIB with core extras

      • How long have you been with NIB, is it hard to claim, thanks.

  • Will they force you to buy their suggested one to get $300 back?

I have tried them, they keep saying their one is the best although he said he will still do the one that I mention(in a very reluctant WAY), also end up the discount will be the same as me signing up by myself.

My experience is not good with them so far

    • +3

I agree, however the quote they've given me is quite competitive (even considering exclusions etc).

To compare prices, go to www.privatehealth.gov.au . Note the prices they quote don't include the 30% government rebate

      • So it may be limited to the personal circumstance?

    • My experience is not good with them so far

Ditto, This is one company to avoid,
they have offered many such seemingly good deals but never actually deliver.

      LIARS.

  • +7

Agree with above. They are pushy buggers. Would not recommend giving them your main phone number. And obviously still shop around as they are more interested in how much commission they receive rather than what deal you get.

    • ^ on this.
As with other telemarketer, be firm with them. You can ask to email you the quote if you want to look at more carefully.

      • Entered my details to see pricing. Was called four times yesterday at work and twice this morning. I told them the first time that yesterday that I only wanted pricing out of curiosity and asked not to be bothered again. Rather annoyed with them.

  • Can u join the same plan u r on now with them?

    • Contact us to purchase a NEW health insurance policy and if you pay the 12 month cost up front, we'll give you a $300 eftpos card to make things a little easier.

  • +3

    Be smarter than them.

I've jumped from one PHI to another over the past 8 months and got $500+ in bonuses (eftpos cards, vouchers).

    • What did you do?

      • +6

Keep an eye on ongoing promotions

First Medibank 20000 Flybuys and $200 Adidas voucher
        Then NIB for $100 eftpos
        Then HIF $50
Now back to NIB for the $100 eftpos again
Then jumping back to Medibank when they renew the promotion

        • Good on you. Please post next time you find a good deal!

        • @bargain_knight:

          I will.

NIB currently have the $100 eftpos card deal running till end of Feb and the prices and very comparable to Medibank but they also give you 4% discount on top if you choose direct debt via bank account

        • @bargain_knight:
if you pay annually and then switch, you get a pro-rata'd refund so easternculture, you can switch via iselect and then again a few months later

        • @leeroys_dad:
Do they deduct an administration charge or is it completely pro-rata'd?
I guess premiums will go up post 1 April by 5 to 10%, so it may negate the benefits of switching.

        • @leeroys_dad: how easy is it to get a pro-rata refund from these guys?

        • +1

          @leeroys_dad:

interesting. I have to wait till 1st of March till i qualify for the $100 eftpos, then i might just use iSelect for $300 to go back to HIF and then Medibank in June

        • @easternculture:

Is there a way to get the nib $100 eftpos and the iselect $300 eftpos?

Answer: Not now, minimum nib is 30 days and $300 iselect offer expires on 4/March. (see https://www.nib.com.au/Content/assets/terms-and-conditions/n… )

        • +1

Are there any negative effect to constantly switching comapnies?

@eaternculture, could you also confirm if your waiting periods are always waived each time you join a new company?

        • @easternculture:
          HIF aren't on iselect's panel

        • @bargain_knight:
          no admin charges

        • @Charity:
easy - just switch to the new company and tick the 'authorise new fund to contact old fund to transfer' and this will also initiate the refund process. you can always call them to make sure but also PHIO are the ombudsman who will side with you

        • @WaywardOne:
no - nib $100 voucher make you join via their website, not iselect's website

        • +1

          @karen_lee89:
no negative effect, insurance is community rated and they cant deny you insurance

        • @karen_lee89:

yes, all claims and waiting periods are carried forward

  • +1

With all this changing though, doesnt that affect your waiting periods etc?

    • Some companies waive the waiting periods for you, but you continue with how much you have already claimed, up to the new company's annual limit. E.g. if you have claimed $100 in optical with your current company and the new limit is $150, you will have $50 left to claim with the new company.

I would also like if @easternculture could please confirm that his waiting periods are always waived.

      • +1

Make sure you get the waiver in writing, insurers are sneaky SOB's!

The main thing you find is that sometimes the actual products are just different enough to make you ineligible for a full waiver/xfer, so some of your inclusions will still require a waiting period after you change over.

      • hospital waiting periods MUST be waived by law. Extras waiting periods are 99% waived by all funds. some caveats e.g. some insurers (HCF) making everyone serve 24 month hearing aids waiting period again

        • +1

Not completely correct. The fed govt sets maximum waiting periods for hospital treatment - 12 months for pre-existing conditions inc pregnancy, less for things like psych, rehab etc. Funds may or may not waive some of these. If you have already served waiting time then you don't lose that when you transfer.

        • @Possumbly:
          was talking about switching

        • @leeroys_dad:

Even then only existing qualification periods are protected. In any case people should not just know the rules but confirm that the fund is applying them properly as eltito says below.

    • Continuation of cover applies, basically when you change from fund to another, the new fund requests something called a clearance certificate. A clearance certificate shows what you had with the previous fund, and they honour anything already served. Anything above what you have served, may have waiting periods.

Be aware, that some extras such as major dental have a one year waiting period, in most cases that won't be waived if your a fresh new member or never had major dental in previous funds similar situation applies to hospital.

Make sure you read the SIS that gets sent out, it'll have the info there, if you get confused or don't understand anything, make sure you call your company.

  • Do they accept Amex? Would be good to get some extra points!

    • +1

probably but many slug u fees to pay with credit cards or like NIB I know a direct deposit payments will bank you a 4% discount (greatly out ways measly 200 points or so)

    • I looked it up earlier, no they don't seem to accept amex.

      http://www.iselect.com.au/private-health-insurance/about/par…

iSelect offers the following payment options for Health Partners policies:
-Direct Debit from your bank account
      -Credit Card (MasterCard, Visa)

      • Thanks klz!

        • Paid my annual premium by credit card with no surcharge. The rep also mentioned i can cancel the cover and see receive the gift card as long as i stay past the cooling off period.

    What a nightmare
All I want is a singe policy (hospital & extras) for a healthy dude in his late 30's.
    Any advise would be great.

    • +2

Can't help but empathize. This is BS. We all pay and pay and pay. It goes up each year and the govt hangs us out to dry each time as we get smashed with increases and no REAL choice but to pay or even between decent providers as we all generally get nothing for our money each year! To subsidize the old for something most of us hardly use and which is provided free to us anyway. Meanwhile the old sit in $5 million mansions in couples, by themselves, while we will never afford a place to house our own families. Younger people got to wake up in Australia! We are getting screwed! —-Rant over—-

  • will try

    Thanks OP

Got my NIB bonus today and jumped on the iSelect $300 eftpos card deal today and signed up with Frank (total of $700 upfront). Also called Frank and they confirmed they refund balance remaining if you switch to another insurer within that 12 months.

Now wait for the $300 card and jump on next PHI offer before Medibank have the usual midyear offer

I also got close to 1000 QFF with iSelect

    • Is there any bonus to being with Frank or just the cheapest ?

      • Theyre pretty no frills so i doubt it. I also went with frank being the cheapest and that i generally dont use much of my extras

      • cheapest option to get the $300 eftpos card

  • anyone been in contact with iselect to get an update on delivery dates?

    • none here yet. Been checking my mailbox everyday

      • I got this:
The $300 vouchers are being issued from iSelect during May, to be received by eligible customer no later than June 30. The voucher will be sent in the mail and will include instructions on how to activate it. Once activated, you have 6 months to use the funds. Being an Eftpos gift card, you will be able to use this anywhere Eftpos is accepted.

        • just received my iSelect $300 card.

time to jump to another provider :)

        • @easternculture:

          Yep me too.
Sooo which health fund promo are you interested in now easternculture? :)

EDIT: Crap, can't activate my EFTPOS card. I get an error with my details. Anyone else successfully activated?

        • @WaywardOne:
Make sure the name/email etc all match up to what you used with iselect - otherwise it will fail

received my card and activated fine today (brisbane)

        • @leeroys_dad:
one big switch have an offer but you only get half of the voucher now, half in 12 months time

        • @leeroys_dad:

My card was activated thanks to the Giftcard Planet call centre

Unfortunately One Big Switch doesn't benefit me - the $200 bonus is not enough for 12 months of increased premiums. Thanks though.

  • Does is actually take till 12pm the next bussiness day for the funds to be avaiable? Would love to use it this weekend :)
