E10 59.9c Per Litre @ Westside Petroleum (58.9c @ Prime) Guildford NSW

900

A Reddit poster says that E10 has been consistently cheap at this servo for the past week, sitting at 73 cents per litre from last Monday and staying at 60 cents per litre since last Wednesday.

Evidently, this is not a pricing error.

  • wow. must be closing down or something, that's insanely cheap…

    • The opposite - it looks like they've just renovated the store.

The station down the road is doing the same thing, so clearly there's some sort of price war over the past few weeks that's brought things down to the point where they can't go any lower.

  • +1

Wow, that's so cheap!!!!! It's not helpful though as I cannot use E10 in my current car and I'm in VIC :)

    • yeah same. I filled my car with premium unleaded priced at 107.9 on the weekend

      • +3

since the Costco in Moorabbin (VIC) opening, I mostly use that fuel station, the price is always cheaper, even when all petrol stations are lowering their prices (usual price game with prices up and down every two-three weeks). During a usual week as at the moment, the cost 98 there is the same as 91 at Caltex/Shell…
Last time was there on Friday. The prices were as below (as far as I can remember):
        91 - 98.7 cents
        98 - 113.7 cents
        diesel - 93.7 cents

        • great thanks for that. My brother has a membership, guess I'll go with him for shopping next time (not sure if my v35 can hold groceries) haha

        • +1

@codename47: you don't need to bring your brother along if you want just to use petrol station, cause it's self-checkout. You just need to insert a membership card for verification, than use you debit/credit card and that's it ;)

        • @Ametric: oh great! thanks for that.

I heard him saying that in CostCo they check your photo etc before letting you shop?

        • +1

@codename47: yes, they check your card when you shop, but not when you fill up some petrol :) There are some reps walking around the petrol station, but they are only for help there, not for identity checkings…

        • So their price is about the same as all the other servos go down to at the low point in the cycle? Do they have 4c/L off from groceries?

        • @JIMB0: yes, their price is always around the lowest point of usual servos with the docket. No, they don't have additional dockets.

      • +8

I am afraid he did not make it :(

      • +1

Next forum question… Got caught doing 200 while texting on the m5.. Advice?

    • in your M5?

      • +1

Love to see an M5 reach 200.

        edit: ahh read MX5 lol

      • +1

you can never reach 200 on M5, not even 20

Sydneysiders will know what I meant

      • M5 won't run on e10

        BMW says no….

  • +1

Yep saw it a couple of days ago too, didn't think to post though!

    • +1

A lot of people would probably think the display is faulty with a 99.9 price being normal for E10.

  • +9

Getting ready to board plane to Guildford with Jerry cans as checked and carry-on baggage.

    • +27

Better get here before the United States military invades Guildford

      • FREEDOM!?!?

  • At this price i would load my e10 map just to use it.

  • +4

I live around this area and I can honestly say this is legit. There's another servo further down the street opposite the church and it's 58.9!

  • -1

has to be a price error

  • buy 4 of these 20L jerry cans and combine with $20 off $100 spend

    GO GO GO

  • +2

would you trust the petrol in these bowsers?

    • +1

      Yes?

    • -2

When something is cheap, we always have a doubt about it. Probably they added water to it.

    • +3

If it was 91 I would. E10 is rubbish at any price.

      • +1

        why's that ?

        • It eats away at your rubbers.

        • @nevetsg: nvm

        • -1

@nevetsg: You realise that correct specification 91 unleaded has about ~5% ethanol already?

        • ethanol attracts water. you don't want water in a petroleum engine

        • @nevetsg: i left 91 e10 in my tank for 1.5 years.

Was down on power but not a single problem otherwise and while this was on only 18 psi i used the rest since it was easier the draining it

  • such price made we wondering…

  • Argh so far away…

I refuse to fill at any of these family owned petrol stations anymore. I filled mine once on Speedway in Mount Prichard, the fuel was defective and I had to replace the fuel filter and empty out the whole tank on my 8 month old car (~$1,500).

They didn't give a sh*t and said go do what you want, go to fair trading etc. They wouldn't give out any details of their ownership, nothing. At the end of the day, I reported them to the fuel authority of NSW and left it that with a valuable lesson learnt.

Compare this with a work mate who filled at a big petrol station (Shell), they had a defective pump where he filled his car and it was in repairs in no time all paid for by Shell. They're backed up with better insurers and a reputation to maintain, imo.

Saying that, this is a good deal, but I just thought I'd share my story.

    • You're not the only one to have issues with Speedway Mt Pritchard. My friend's dad has a work ute and poured there two or three times. During that time the ute was acting up and then it had trouble starting.

Same issue with water in the engine. Cost a crapload of money to get it fixed. Not worth it for a few cents saving at the pump.

      • How do they mix water with the petrol ? One floats on top of the other, they dont mix, so when you fill up your either getting 100% petrol or 100% water.

        • Ethanol will bind the two together.

        • @JIMB0:

Thnx, a quick Google reveals that ethanol and water do mix…

      • +1

Yep, they're dodgy as. They got done for it in 2008, see below. I even complained to the ACCC saying my car got done in again in 2011 but it went on deaf ears.

I know the pump was closed for about a year for renovations and has just opened up once again all brand spanking new. Then a brawl occured there lol

        http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/two-stabbed-during…

        • Fair enuff, but how do they mix the water into e petrol ?

        • @ninetyNineCents:

I'm not sure about that, I wasn't the one who said they mixed water in to the fuel, I just think the quality where they source their fuel from is extremely poor.

        • @aurotaro:

There are very few sources of fuel anywhere in Australia. Its not as if someone has a secret port and brings in shipments from gods knows where. AT most there are probably just 1 or 2 companies bringing in the tankers and there are not that many storage facilities around holding fuel.

So where is this bad fuel made up then and stored ? The only way it could be made bad is if basically the driver of the tanker does it 5 minutes before delivery or the petrol station themselves adds some cheaper garbage themselves.

It cant be the source because theres only the big names and it cant be them.

    • +1

WTF? you paid $1500 to get your tank drained and a new filter? While you are looking for a new servo to use, i would look for a new mechanic. Either that or invest in some Vaseline next time you take a car in for any work…

      • Agreed, had to instead go through my insurance and paid out my excess ($600), but I know the Suzuki Dealership Mechanic charged my insurer around the ~$1,500. That was the last time I went to service my car at a dealer as well. Two lessons learnt with one hit.

        • +1

That's why they are called "stealerships" The reason it was $1500 was because they charged it to an insurance company. This is why premiums and excess is so high. Insurance is paying?? add a "0" and send the invoice…

        • @pegaxs: Not sure about the neg on the comment, but I guess it wasn't you.

Not everyone is blessed with knowledge on cars and price to pay for parts and repairs, hence why the bloody motor industry is a rot. Couple that with me needing my car for work everyday, this was an impulse decision.

Anyway as I said previously, Two lessons learnt with one hit.

        • @aurotaro: I didn't neg. I was actually interested in why is was $1500 and was trying to help you from not getting rolled again if you happen to be subjected to getting your car repaired ever again.

I am an ex-stealerhip employee and my boss had a policy to charge women full retail and for shit they didnt need, any guy in a business suit was treated the same. I was the one that took notes and handed it to the ACCC and Consumer Commission. Needless to say, they no longer do it. (I should have used a confession bear meme…)

        • @pegaxs: You've been stored as my go-to price check contact for car repairs!

    • The two on Meadows Rd right? If so, I might have to tell my parents to avoid it since they use them quite often.

      • Yes, avoid both of them. They're right opposite each other. See the links above from ACCC.

    • +1

Fully agree with you. I filled up from United on Victoria RD near Bunnings Rydalmere the other day as it was cheaper than the others and luckily only filled up $10 worth when it was close to $1/L and I noticed my car when I left work was acting funny.

I ended up filling up from Caltex the next day just so the bad one get mixed with the good one (not sure if I did the right thing) but yeah, never again to fill from a cheap family or not a big name servo.

Was tempted to report them but was not sure where to and what the process is.

    • I lost an engine once… wish it was only just a fuel filter

  • +5

Not a pricing error. I filled up full tank last Sunday from near empty. Car is still running fingers crossed!

  • +2

BP in Edgecliff NSW was $2.00 a litre for 98over the weekend. I shit you not.

    • +2

But you do get a free coffee at the next-door $100 Crystal Carwash, so you can't really complain :)

      • +1

yeah edgecliff where all the CEOs and fund managers live

        • Exactly. Classic case of Eastern suburbs vs. Western suburbs.

    • +1

Gosh I'm so glad I'm not the only one pissed off at this. When everywhere else in Sydney is battling for $1.20 a litre this place proudly sits on $1.59. It doesn't change for days at a time. Yet everywhere still fills up there.

      • I have a theory that it's so expensive at that servo because it's the most convenient service station to get to from Bayswater Car Rental, so people refilling their cars have no choice but to go there.

      • BP targets big business + goverment and gets them on fuel cards (for accounting convenience) . BP knows that these type of folks couldn't care less about the price - because someone else is picking up the tab.

  • +1

It might be the new Harvey Norman servo. All cheap fuel fillups will be cancelled, however you'll be given the opportunity to purchase at full RRP after you've filled up.

  • +2

Price has gone up at Westside (>1.10/l, cant remember the exact price), Prime is stil 58.9/l however this would probably change in the morning. They've been having a price war for a while. I know Prime used to use Mobil fuels, however I'm not sure if this is the case.

It's been like this for weeks, drive by it regularly. Was about to post this and Prime last week, then thought the Ozbargain trolls would have a field day telling me not to use my phone while driving, or that the picture wasn't clear enough. Infidels everywhere!

  • When the price of international oil's plummeted over the last year from US$1.20+ to US$0.30c now, shouldn't this petrol station's price just be about the regular price of fuel now? How is it the price of oil drops by 75%, yet our bowser price has only dropped from AU$1.40 to AU$1.20/litre?

    • Numbers are slightly wrong, you mean $120 to $30 right?

      • Oh yeah, in a rush, soz..

  • +1
    • Just filled up 48.9 cents at Prime on the Guildford Road
