Bowers & Wilkins P3 Headphones (White) - 15,050 Points at The Qantas Store

330

As follow up from the original listing of this sale at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233209. Apparently these B&W headphones sound a little warm according to some reviews, but general consensus is the sound is excellent, as is the build. A few complaints about comfort, but at least as many claim them to be really comfy. One of those things I guess! Many reviews here: http://www.amazon.com/Bowers-Wilkins-P3-Headphones-White/pro…. Might not get the same aural satisfaction as strapping a couple of Nautilus speakers (http://www.bowers-wilkins.net/Speakers/Home_Audio/Nautilus) to your ears, but then again bound to be a bit more portable. Anyhow, other colours are available @22,620 points, but I spotted that the white version is only 15,050 points (down from 37,760) so I thought it worthwhile letting people know!

Absolutely buying stuff off the store is usually not the best way to spend your points, but this I suspect may be worth considering in particular if you don't really use your points for upgrades etc. A JB-HiFi evoucher for $100 is 16,600 points so that makes the headphones effective cost about $90 delivered. Possibly save a further 15% if it's your birthday (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/list_of_birthday_deals - BDAYFEB16).

They aren't noise cancelling, so may be more suited to listening to music at work rather than on the 'plane although some reviews note that the noise isolation is surprisingly good - whatever the case, they'll still be way better than the standard 'free' headphones you normally get on a plane.

"As it happens, Qantas pegged its own points at 2.28c each in its recent one million points competition, but in actuality sets what could be considered a 'base rate' of just 0.66c per point on its Frequent Flyer store by offering $100 Myer Digital Gift Cards for 15,000 points." http://www.ausbt.com.au/what-is-a-qantas-frequent-flyer-poin…

I understand that at best you may be able to get around the equivalent of 6 cents ($0.06) per point if upgrading from business to first class, but in the store it's closer to $0.006 per point.

I suspect you may be confusing how many points you earn when buying something with a reward card as opposed to redeeming those points.

let's see if I got this correct.

So 6 cents if you use it on flights?
1 cent if you sell it to another person?
0.6 cents if you spend it in the store on GC?

      • +2

Roughly, yes - although it's not exact. It would be up to 6 cents for an upgrade, but it may be 2 cents or less per point if you use them to buy a ticket…. You might get 1 cent if you are able to sell your points to another person, but be aware that's only supposed to be to family members so Qantas might get narky if they find out you are selling them to a stranger….

        • Qantas will get more than narky and remove your FF account. They've been on a bit of a warpath on Gumtree and ebay for people openly selling points (of course YMMV).

  • has anyone tried selling their points?
Is it safe? What is the best way to go about doing it?

There's a number of different models of Momentums, but in general I'd suggest the B&W P3 would be more compact/lighter, but the Sennheiser Momentum on ear headphones might be a little more comfortable and have a slightly cleaner sound plus only has the one cable going to one side rather than both. If price was no object, and I didn't mind the extra bulk, then I'd probably go the Momentums. Or some AKGs.

edit ok I answered a different question which then was changed…. ;-)

To answer the other question, try https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/qantas+type:classif…. Perhaps message some of them and see how it went!

      • Thanks. I have the Momentums 1 on ear $70 (also Bose oe2 $70) and was wondering if this would be an upgrade. Guess not… Good deal tho.

    • Whatever you do don't try to sell your points. I narrowly avoided losing 1.4m (yes, that's not a typo) Velocity points trying to sell 20k!!!

      • What happen?
        How do they find out?

Some may want to check their local JB Hifi, one I was in today had two pairs of these for $110 in a clearance table, have been there a long time too.

  • Not convinced by the B&W marketing B/S stuff, though they seem to be trying hard to follow the Bose-lead "premium" grade acoustics products.
15k points having just bought the Sony Bluetooth ones on OzB a couple of weeks back?
Give this one a miss me thinks

    Most uncomfortable headphones ever…

    • Paid $150 last year.

Sound quality is good. Not the most comfortable headphones. They press hard against your ear and take a fair bit of use to loosen up. They fold down into the supplied hard case which is nice.

I was in the Qantas lounge recently and there was a FIFO in high-viz with these headphones.
    It screamed new money.

Thank you very much. Was in the market for a new set of headphones. Got this for 12,792 points. Very detailed post with all the research, especially the birthday code. Cheers.

  • The Bose QC20 are on sale too.
